My point is that yes it's an official episode from the show, but is it really to be taken seriously if no one making it took it seriously?

If it all one big crazy joke, is it really canon? What if nothing in it comes back again?

That was sort of my reaction to it:

"OMG THIS IS THE FUNNIEST THING EVER!!"

And then when it was over I took a deep breathe and said, "That was INSANE and I can't take it seriously at all."

That is all fine but while you can say that it isn't canon, it will be canon.

In my opinion, unless the show creators specifically say that it isn't canon, then it is canon.

Besides, even as someone who wasn't into the episode, its not like it broke canon or anything. Its pretty harmless.

This episode was made by the official creators of the show and they didn't deny that it was canon, so I say it is.

Oh yeah it totally had a plot, but it was still unadulterated madness.
Tavi and Vinyl bust through the front of their house on a friggin wubmobile, literally jumping a shark plushie in the street before scooping up every background character in the show and carrying them to the gazebo, and then crash because they ran over the Twilicane.

That sounds like My Little Pony mad libs!! XD

I thought that scene was so absurd. It sounds like it came straight from a bad fanfiction.

The definition of 'canon' kind of requires this episode to be canon, just like every episode to this point was.

*looks it up*

"the works of a particular author or artist that are recognized as genuine"

Hmm okay, then it IS by definition canon. It's a genuine episode.

But it doesn't really feel like a genuine story, but rather as I've said, a big elaborate joke.

It's like a seesaw. On one side is coherence and logic and the other side is fun and entertainment. They put so much into the entertainment factor that it's gone off the rails and it now hard to believe. I can't take it seriously, and I feel like it doesn't want me to take it seriously. Which is unfortunate because there's so much in it that I like and believe should be put onscreen.

The short answer is yes, it's canon.  It is what it is.

I realize not everybody is wild about episodes like this.  But part of the reason we fell in love with MLP:FiM in the first place is their outside the box thinking and a refusal to take themselves too seriously.  I liked this ep myself.  I just hope casual viewers who aren't familiar with these fan-made concepts weren't left too confused.

With all that said, this episode is a piece of canon that we're free to ignore if we wish. Nothing that happened, other than the marriage, is likely to be revisited in the future.

Well that answers main question of this thread; can't argue with that. Rest in peace various headcanons.

I don't know, I guess I don't agree.  Sure this was a fun episode, but I felt it was true to the general nature of the show.  I liked the point at the end about how even though some characters are incidental or just in the background, they are still part of this world and they add a necessary layer to the show.  There was even a friendship themed message at the end of the episode.

This is rude but OP is making no sense. It's an official episode from the show so it is canon whether you like or not.

Oh, good, I was HOPING they wouldn't leave it hanging to be forever more bickered upon.

Still would have probably tweaked the episode a bit to make it seem a bit less hard to take seriously.

But that's just my opinion. 83

Like how Celestia and Nightmare Moon's fight in the show was rather underwhelming.

I like to pretend there was more to it. With this episode I might just pretend the opposite. XD

To this question, I'd have to say to pick and choose whichever parts of the episode sound good as headcanon. We won't know for sure what is or isn't until future episodes either confirm or deny it.

This episode showed a lot of wacky, irreverent humor that surrealistically breaks the established rules of the show's world the same way many Discord or Pinkie Pie gags do. Filling an entire episode with that sort of humor makes it harder to pin down what's to be accepted as canon and what isn't. For example, Gummy's monologue can be seen as either a joke or a legitimate character trait of his, or Bon Bon being a spy. We don't really know if it's legit or if she made the whole thing up and the episode took it seriously for the lulz.

For now, I'd treat the episode as if it were written by Pinkie Pie or Discord; as in being factually hard to distinguish what's reality and imaginative exaggeration in the MLP universe. In short, it's just a lot of fun and I wouldn't try to think as hard about that aspect of this episode as I would with any other.
