A long post, but you got an airship at the end of it so not a bad deal. Well, an airship and a suicide mission. Swings and roundabouts.

 

From this point the RP will be more open, although I will give each character a suggestion that will lead to something significant. It may or may not directly help against the demon hordes, but it will be relevant to the overall resolution of the RP. The characters' time is limited though, so you won't be able to do everything.

I planned to have this done on Monday, but then Cura's question triggered the tarot scene, and after I saw the introduction video to 'Darkest Dungeon' I decided that the tarot reveal for Crystal Spark needed 20% more Cthulu (this was the inspiration for the Crystal Spark card scene.)

Ok, I seem to be making a bit of a mess of the whole show-don't-tell thingy by not getting the message across...

 

 

 

In a nutshell   We met the king, we got tarot cards, spoopy stuff is happening

 

... that is basically it. It does have the mystery EDIT: Oh s**t it doesn't. 'Exploration' then, and I am going for mystery-type horror  tag because the charters are not meant to have a perfect knowledge of what is going on - far from it. Perfect decisions are impossible without perfect knowledge, so a lot of the tension and drama is meant to derive from not knowing what the right thing to do is - and if making one or other choice might even make things worse. Obviously this relies on me hitting exactly the right spot of mystery and information that decisions can be made but not with certainty - and clearly I am missing that here. I apologise.

 

So, to go in to more detail:

 

Through various ways and means, all of the characters (chosen by higher powers called 'The Tarot') have been drawn together and recruited (whether they wanted to be or not) by the king. The king sees this, as well as the return of the sun and the moon, as vindication of his divine authority and a sign that it is his destiny to drive the demons from Ponyville and save Equestria. Make of that what you will.

 

Following this, his adviser (Albion - an albino pony) was in the process of revealing more about the tarot to the group when the tarot card (used to determine the source of a pony's power) seemed to react to Crystal Spark (rescued from Ponyville) in a ... strange way. This prompted Crystal Spark to attack Albion and escape, killing one guard and grievously wounding another in the process.

 

I will say that Albion is alright, and will talk more about the tarot powers in the next post.

 

The overall objective, as set by the king, is to find the three demons possessing Celestia, Luna and Cadence and to destroy them. That will break the demon-king's control over the mutant army. The king believes that the demon-king will then emerge to lead the army himself, and at that point the king will confront him and destroy him. The king will then inherit the legacy of Celestia and Luna (who saved Equestria from Discord) and rule it in much the same way they did.  

 

To go more in to what is meant to be hinted at by all of this:

 

 

1. The tarot cards animate when the pony they relate to is near - Crystal Spark's changed to a corrupted version, suggesting that she is in some way corrupted.

 

2. The king is clearly well informed about the tarot, but his perception has been skewed, possibly to the point of delusion, by his own ambitions and ideology. Be careful how far you trust what he says.

 

3. Crystal Spark displayed the same abilities as Zayoh (suppress magic), Bramble (unnatural speed) and Scarlett (ability to kill.)

There are enough characters that one or another can fade into the background when needed. It does represent missed opportunities, but if it's necessary then I don't mind.

Alright, I've taken some advice from the good magos (who knows the rough plan for the plot) about how much to reveal, and had a good think about how to implement it. It's going to take a little while longer to resolve this scene, but my hope is that by the end of it both the overall goal and what each character's powers are based on will be clear. General and specific questions are welcome, and I will spoiler anything that I think gives away something important. 

 

If you want to make suggestions for how I can improve, please do - use the private message OOC or the public OOC, either is fine.

My posting times are probably to blame for that - by the time I've got all the individual OOC posts ready, plus the main story post, it's quite late / early. For people in the US that's fine, as they're up to eight hours behind, but in the UK and Europe it's so late that anyone there probably won't get the updates until the next day - so potentially the next evening, or later if they're busy. At that point anyone who is going to post immediately has already done so, or it will be a few days until they find the time.

Excellent - I should credit the initial concept and design to the good magos and the notes he gave me, although I have tweaked them here and there. As a note to all, Albion will be talking to each character about their powers over the next few posts.
