They just did their jobs. They are supposed to protect these people from any possible harm. I get that you just wanted to say hi but there's people who wants to harm them.

I've never been to a convention period. But because of stuff like this I'd be too afraid of talking to anyone anywhere at a convention. I don't really see how a problem like this can be fixed. Unless someone is unashamed of a conversation...

I dont think it should deter you from going to a convention. I mean even if the security are super uptight around the VA's does not mean the rest of the convention will be boring. I had an awesome time a bronycon in general. Besides I think this is only just a bronycon thing from what I have heard do to its sheer size and corporatization of it. Smaller cons are much more relaxed in terms of meeting with the VA's and such.

OP, Bronycon has become a "big-con" so things like this will be the normal, it is life. I had a silver sponsor level badge and i didn't even use my autograph voucher, because I was there to see friends who only come to b-con. Which is what big-cons are good for (imo).
fyi: BABScon is where I meet and get pictures of VA's and drink (i am not a part of BABScon staff)

If you are reading this you clearly have sometime on your hands, or you just like to read. Lets be honest they can be very related, you are on a forum dedicated to pastel colored miniature equines. Though if reading this is a waste of time, what would it say about the person who is writing it....

also The Game, Consult the Helix Fossil, /0, and other such maymays

I'm actually thinking about it. Seeing the voice actors/actresses would be awesome.

Yep as long as your not harrassed by security for simply shaking their hand or saying hello becuase you have to buy a ticket first to do that lol.

But they do that for a reason. It would have been chaos if everybody just went and started talking to the voice actors when they wanted.

I have been to BABScon since i live in Northern California. it was super fun and enjoyable. It had an intimate feel not to big not to small. Even got to see the Big Mac's VA at the hotels Sports Bar & Grill when were were having dinner and drinks.

I am really excited for this bronycon this year especially since Tabitha and most of all Tara is coming to bronycon I just fear like with every year, security will get worse. Many of the VA's like interacting with their fans and like being treating like regular people, BronyCon security is kind of like Secret Service or any other Security for famous people and really destroys the atmosphere sometimes. ponycon was so much better in terms of fan interaction and you could really see how much more comfortable the VA's were being themselves. Its a shame it was their last year. I am still going to bronycon and I really want to meet Tara strong and Tabitha, as I know they love their fans, Hopefully Security does not try to block me or act like I am going to ambush them simply by seeing them relax or walk around the facility when greeting their fans. Or worse demand a ticket for an autograph when they clearly dont mind their fans saying hello, or shaking their hands.

This year, all of the mane 6 VAs are going to BronyCon, so the security might be more protective this year.

I know, hopefully it wont be to bad but I wont be holding my breath. I have a felling Tara's line for autographs will be so long that I wont be able to get an autograph and it will take multiple trips just to get one. Just like with John De Lancie at last years BronyCon, many people wait online for hours to be told signing is over and to come back the following day. If I happen to see them wandering the place, just saying hello to her or other guests will be ridiculous hard due to how crazy the security has become. Most of the security from what I heard are not even bronies anymore, and many of them from what i see are not intimidating at all, sometimes  think some of the females VAs on the cast of MLP as stronger than some of the security ."protecting" them.

Honestly, you have to understand THEIR perspective man. We live in a world where big gatherings can translate to mass shootings or terrorist attacks unfortunately. Their job is not to just make sure no one "harasses" the talent, but to ensure their SAFETY. While going to shake their hand may seem like a simple gesture to you, to them, you could grab them and pull them in as a hostage. That stuff has happened before. A situation always seems seemingly innocent before it goes south. While Security may come off as spoiling everyone's fun, they are just taking their job seriously, which honestly is a good thing. At least you know that these guys will be able to be counted on if an incident does occur.

While it may be an annoyance to you, wouldn't you rather that Tara, John, and all of the talent from the show be able to be there feeling safe? Let's not forget that not all fans are like you and me. There are many fans who take a show wwwwwwwwwwwwwwway too seriously and have done some insane things. Hell remember Chris-Chan macing someone at GameStop because of Sonic Boom? That kind of shit happens all the time, and I'd rather have security that is there taking their job super seriously than people who don't give a shit and will allow a situation to come up.

In an ideal world we wouldn't need security, but we don't live in an ideal world. At least you can take solace in knowing that your favorite VA is SAFE, right?

When attendance reaches 10k+ and you have writers getting death threats over making characters cry, I have no issues with slightly heightened security. I say slightly because I've been to cons that featured celebrities with greater name and face recognition that had crazy ass protection. BronyCon security was likely nothing compared to SW Celebration or ComicCon

I can understand why security would be overprotective of them. You've seen how people talk about the show staff online? For example, AKR getting death threats over Pinkie making Fluttershy cry in Filli Vanilli. I would guess some of these people would want to do this at a con.

And there's the fact that some fans can be a bit too obsessive around these people, always wanting to talk with them trying to be their best friend or something. So of course they're gonna be overprotective on these people.

I wouldn't say the security guards are always like this. When I was at Whinny City Pony Con, I got to have conversations with people like MA Larson and iLoveKimPossiblealot for a few minutes until the security guards were like, "Okay that's enough." Heck, MA Larson played a round of Mario Kart with several con goers. So I can't imagine the security gets too bad.

Right about other cons. When I was at Babs my kids and I just about ran into Lauren Faust. She was being escorted only by her handler and not security. We only had a brief exchange because she was in a rush to get to the Meet and Greet - but the Fausticorn herself was sans security in the con lobby! Also, not naming the guests here, but one VA and one writer attended several fan-thrown after hours social events. One was a party and one was just a few fans (not horse famous types).

BABS is a great con for that sort of spontaneous sort of interactions.

With this year having all of the main character VAs, I'm expecting more heavy security.
