Comedy, fantasy, many genres

Why am i think MLP:FiM is getting to be non-children cartoon? because of the brony fandoms?

Gotta hand it to ya, I agree with that.

It's a fantasy linear story with element of comedy and sitcom. FiM has many more serious elements as well, and plot is constantly progressing, so its not static like many sitcoms.

I'd argue the series is low fantasy overall with the two-parters being closer to high fantasy.

agreed there. Except for the "special" ponies like Alicorns or master unicorns, the other ponies seem to live fairly mundanely without much flashy magic.

They do occasionally slip in some "Sufficiently advanced magic" things like the anti-magic screening system at the equestria games, but most ponies, even unicorns, seem to live fairly modestly and normally.

It's mainly a "slice of life" show: it deals with problems we face everyday, and it focuses on friendship.

True that. the overwhelming majority of the episodes are slice of life, with even the adventure episodes focusing on a lesson instead of just winning via violence or whatnot (like DPDOMS where the tantabus is defeated by luna learning a lesson).

that being said, I've noticed that the adventure and fighting episodes have increased DRAMATICALLY; season 1 and 2, aside from the finale or premiers, pretty much straight slice of life, while Season 4 and 5 we've gotten a decent amount of monster/antagonist episodes with a threatening force.

It's hard to put it into one genre, so I just go for children's-fantasy-adventure-slice-of-life.

It's a little bit of everything in a kid's show. Kind of like shaved ice with all the toppings on it...which I could totally go for right now.

EDIT: Accidentally said "gender" instead of "genre"...was just on a gender-related thread. :P

Its funny to compare Season 1 to current FIM, y'know? After the first 2 episodes FIM pretty much dropped all its magical girl elements and had very little adventure or fighting. Season 2 and 3 had a little with the premiers and finales, but past that same old same old.

season 4 and season five however seem to have jumped headfirst into increasing the amount of adventure and action episodes though, with things like Power ponies, Do princesses dream of magical sheep, and an increased focus on the magical girl aspect of the show with meta-plots for the seasons.
