Debating Writing a Fanfic, need some help debating which plot to take

Okay, as the title suggests, I'm going to be writing a Fanfic. I have a base Idea of setting and how I want things to work, but I don't really know which plot-line to take and work with. Both Plot-lines take place AFTER season two.

 

Plot A: (kinda cliche)

 

The setting starts off in Ponyville, and Celestia calls upon the Mane 6 once again to help with something that could potentially threat the peace of Equestria. It's from an unknown energy source that's located to the north, and she wants the mane 6 to look into it. Princess Luna steps down and accompanies. They head north to discover what threatens them, and how to stop it.

 

Plot B: (Also very cliche)

 

One of the Princesses gets kidnapped, and the mane 6 have to try to figure out who is responsible and bring them to justice. One of the Princesses will accompany them, (it depends on which one was kidnapped) so that when close, they could detect each others magic. (Assuming that the Alicorns can sense the difference between their magic fields)

That being said, Which plot do you think would be better for me to try to write with? Wile the concepts have probably been used before, I do my best to provide stories that are interesting to read. Either way I go, there is the potential for this to turn into mini-fanfic novels.

Plot B, at least it is not-so-cliche as the first.

I think that plot B might be good. Will it be in the form of first person (I, me...) if so, what pony? (Twilight, Rarity, Pinkie, Fluttershy, Applejack, Rainbow, Princess). If not, will it be in the 3rd person form, and will the character's thoughts be readable? Just some things to think about. But as I said, Plot B sounds nice.

It will be in combination first/Third person PoV. Dialogue and thoughts will be done in First person while prose would be done in third. I 'personally' don't like reading stories that are all first person PoV, so I wouldn't write in it. And I as well am drawn a bit to plot b, my only concern is that it was technically already done in the show, but I haven't seen any fanfics where it has been done with all three of the princesses getting along or caring about one another.

Now that we've established that it will be done in comb. 3rd&1st, plot B sounds just as good as plot A. But, as Chegins wrote:

Plot A is a little cliche. But that doesn't mean that you can't write about it. It just means it's been done before, and I think it will be better than the rest if you go with A.

Thanks every pony for the input. It looks pretty clear from here which one I should do, that being the case, I can't start on it until the two-parter is concluded. After all, I need to know what Princess Cadence is like before I write with her so I don't go completely against her personality.

So with the recent episode, it basically makes Plot B almost completely unusable. I mean they have kidnapped a princess twice now in the actual show. I don't honestly know if I should go ahead and write it now, or if I should put it on pause. Opinions? should I go ahead and write it now? Or just scratch it and try something else?

you got that idea from that episode of Magic School Bus when they went inside Ralphie(or was it Arthur?) to see and combat his cold, didn't you?

 

Or just scratch it and try something else?

 

Um, well, I kinda have a controversial post about the Royal Guard currently up in Episode Discussion, and in it, I had an idea about a fan-fic where the Royal Guard were nothing but the same one or two ponies being cloned, which would explain the abnormally large number of Guards in Equestria. Maybe you could give it a shot?

Possibly, I'm thinking I might continue with plot b though, I think I found a way that I can do it that will be good. Perhaps maybe with possibly, Celestia getting kidnapped, and Cadence blaming Luna, in which case Luna goes with the Mane 6, (and my OC) to save her sister to prove that a) she's not the one who kidnapped her, and get her reputation back to a popular standing. Then Cadence watches over Equestria until they get back. Thoughts? Think it could work?

yeah... I should have caught that after I posted it.

 

But as far as my OC goes, This would take place before she moved to ponyville. As in Ice still lives in Canterlot and Speaks to Luna like Once a week, ( In her history, she fund luna more interesting than Celestia because she likes the night better than day time ) She would know that Luna is innocent behind the manner and want to help her set things right. not to mention Ice Manipulation can be a very useful ability.

Yeah, don't be surprised if this story turns into a mini-novel. If anyone has read my other work on here, The Dragons of Worloch, then they know I don't do short, and that was just the first chapter.

I haven't read a lot of fanfics, so I really don't know what has been written about. I kinda liked Plot A, because it would discover new places of the world of ponies, and that's something I'd love to read about . Then again, there might be a future problem, if the creators decide to do that too and make the place(s) different.

 

That's why I would prefer Plot B, it feels better. It sounds a bit like Mario tho . I really love the "sense each other" part of the idea!

Thank you everypony for the input in this thread. I have made my decision and I have decided to go with the second plot and I already have the first two chapters of the story up. They can be found here.
