Pony Types

Has anyone else noticed that Season 5 has had a lot of random pony types, or is it just me? Like having different bodies than the usual? I don't know about you guys, but it's really starting to screw with my head cannons...

I remember how Lauren Faust wanted ponies to have different physiques and silhouettes, like humans do, but ended up using the same body type for most ponies due to a limited budget. Now, thanks to the show's tremendous success, I guess they can fulfill Lauren's wish.

 

I think it's nice, the more body types, the more variety! Plus, it makes ponies look more memorable and easier to identify. ^^

In previous seasons most ponies have used the "basic" mare body type, now we're getting characters like sassy saddles, the retiring "pest control" pony, troubleshoes, etc.

I think it's cool how the animation seems to get better every season. The amount of new background ponies in Season 5 is really impressing me. I'm excited to see what DHX does with Season 6.

I have noticed this as well.  We're seeing more ponies these days that break the mane 6 mold, which is great.  What we really need now is a stallion with the typical mare body type and vice versa.  It would be great to show that ponies, like people, come in every shape and size, and there can certainly be more effeminate looking stallions and masculine mares.  Like, seriously, we need a stallion with a mane 6 body type, and then we need a mare with a Big Mac body type.  I think that would be a great opportunity for education, since there are all sorts of people irl that don't fit the norm, and also many people that you can't easily tell their gender based on their appearance, or even their voice sometimes.  Introducing kids to this kind of thing would be great.  The more we see differences and diversity, and the earlier we see it, the less apt people are to be intolerant, scared, or shocked.  I think most intolerance of those who are different is just because it's not what people are used to.  The more we see it, the more it just becomes normal.
