The Darkest Episode in MLP

Silver Stream.

Recommended Posts

No one mentions Too Many Pinkie Pies?  :o

It's actually very disturbing if you actually think about what happens

This was of course not picked up by me, this guy is the best there is, and he is the one who made this episode way too dark for me. :D

I really recommend watching all of it, simply because it is awesome, but if you are in a hurry, go to 15:15  :)

To me, I think the darkest episode is "Cutie Map". It is not like other villain episodes, just destroying stuff, threatening ponies. BUT this one is different.

                                                 -                                                             -                                            -                                      -

Starlight Glimmer didn't use any magic to make other ponies to believe her belief is RIGHT. She just brainwashes them, and even tried to brainwash the Mane 6 until they turned into the brainwashed ones. It gives me so much chills. Seems like these season premiers are getting creepier, and creepier  :sunny:

Love this. Because these were my exact words when explaining how Starlight could be the most sinister villain or at least be ranked up there with Tirek and Sombra

Not a new opinion, but I'll have to give my vote for The Cutie Map.

What really chills me about this episode are Starlight and the townsfolk -- what trauma did they go through to accept this lifestyle, desperate for Star's promises of friendship and belonging. Or, did she just kidnap them completely against their will? I can't tell which seems to be the worse option. The ponies are stuck in her brainwashing, and it seems to get worse the longer they're there (Double Diamond compared to the Mane 6).

Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep also took me by surprise with how dark it was, but I have nothing new to bring to the plate and talk about. Thinking about it now, this season has been quite sad.

Agree with all of these posts, and I'll also add my suggestion to the mix. I thought Amending Fences was the darkest episode, at least for me, primarily because I find it so relatable. The whole thing of being rejected by your supposed friends and being emotionally scarred by it, that's something I've never bounced back from; for many years I had struggled with depression because of it. When Moondancer broke down in tears I almost broke down with her, so while it's not the overall darkest episode it's the one that resonated with me the most, so it's my personal darkest.

This is.....very insightful actually. And in a way, this could be considered an overall dark episode even for those who don't find it personal. Because whether we know it or not, our actions affect many people with encounter. Sort of scary that there's a possibility that I ruined someone's life without even meaning to. And not all people are lucky enough to realize this and fix it like Twilight did.

This season is contained with a few dark episodes, I wonder if this show is still suitable for children.

Whilst it's not the darkest, one episode nobody's mentioned but is definitely worthy of it based on it's content is Bloom & Gloom.

It's all meant to be one of those episodes where "it was all just a dream," Apple Bloom finally wakes up and everything is fine and dandy. But in this dream we are essentially looking into Apple Blooms inner psyche when she is feeling emotionally vulnerable. She's playing out multiple scenarios where she feels that others won't accept her based on what kind of cutie mark she receives. When Luna shows Apple Bloom that the mysterious ghost telling her she can have her mark removed (which, lets be honest, we all thought was Starlight Glimmer based on being so close to The Cutie Map airing) was actually "her own shadow" you realise exactly how dark it got. Apple Bloom's shadow is actually a representation of low self esteem. Because a cutie mark is a representation of who they are, Apple Bloom is actually rejecting herself and telling herself that she's not good enough to be liked and accepted. Throw in the troupe where every time she wakes up and the nightmare continues, a nightmare of her inner demons that she fees unable to escape from, we end up with one really dark episode.

Barring season finales and openers, in which case the season four finale wins hands down, I'd say the darkest episode is Stare Master. It gives about the most blatant reminder of our own mortality to both the Cutie Mark Crusaders and the audience when the Crusaders travel through the cockatrice-infested Everfree Forest and come across the petrified body of Twilight Sparkle.

That is horror-movie level terrifying, right there.

The only one I disagree with is Swarm of the Century.

I'd also like to add The Cutie Map. I mean, look at it. Ponies are brainwashed to think that being "equal" will bring about joy. This puts them in a state of insanity, which almost brings down the mane 6.

My choices have already been mentioned. Cutie Map, Twilight's Kingdom, The Crystal Empire and more.

That's what I get for being late to the party, I guess...

'cause it's only knock and knowall but I like it...

The lost treasure of Griffinstone is not totally dark but it has direct indication of death (cyclop'skull) and the ruin of the country (and the griffin lived miserably, even after Mane 2 solved friendship problem, the economy problem still there).

Do princess dream of magic sheep? Self-harm!? You know, FOR KIDS!!!. I wonder how many night Luna torment herself with her nightmare from season 1 to season 5...

Party of one/Lesson Zero. After I watched both of these then I read some character's psychology analyses, my spine was chill as hell. When pony's purposes in life are failed, they will break down and become depress and turn into psychotic states.

Cutie Markless (this title is 20% cooler). WW2 propaganda, re education room, brain wash ponies without magic... Yep...

For whom Sweetie Bell toils. Everything has consequences.

Twilight's Kingdom part 2. The destruction of the library. That scene is sad and depressing then it turn into violent fight with mayhem and destruction.

Crystal Empire. Slave ponies. An Empire has been erased for thousand years and noponies except Royal Sisters know about its existence... That's dark.

Dragon Quest. Please convince me that a bunch of dragons try to smash the phoenix egg just FOR FUN is a harmless scene of the entire show.

The Cutie Map two parter. I mean, common, Starlight's pretty much the pony equivalent of a unscrupulous, tyrannical dictator not unlike Big Brother. And the way she ruled the equal village prior to the arrival of the Mane Six is the closest we'll get to an Equestrian version of Orwell's Oceania from 1984

Yeah she scared me in the season 5 two parter, is it wrong to say she reminded me of Hitler?

Eh, I wouldn't compare her very much to Hitler. While they do share similarities, she's not an insane genocide. On the other hand, given she'll use time travel in the finale, who knows, what kind of demonic plans she has in mind. Bet she'll try to do the same as the Borg and Boris the Animal. Without killing involved, of course. This is a kid's show we're talking about. Edited by Dino-Mario

What I wonder is if she goes back in time to prevent the mane 6 from getting their cutie marks, what cutie marks will they get? I mean will they just get those equal marks?

Very likely. And perhaps she will surely try to

make herself more powerful in the progress. Maybe we'll even see Celestia, Luna and Cadance bruised, wounded and fallen all while a victorious Glimmer stands on top of them.
