I believe in the multiverse theory, thus I believe in celestia.

But I wouldn't worship her as a god. :P

If I was in her realm (which is impossible) I would worship her like a princess.

Surely you have not abandoned Zalgo-ism!

I HAD TO FALL TO LOSE IT ALL BUT IN THE END IT DOESN'T EVEN MATTER /WRISTS

Of course not! Seeing as I am the center deity of the religion.

I wonder if there are any brilliant theologians in Equestria dedicated to studying Celestia, like Thomas Equinas.

I see what you did thar! Though his job would be made significantly easier considering all he would have to do is arrange an interview.

you know, this actually really could work for me. I have kind of wonky ideas about religion; I am an atheist, but I reeeeeeeeally want something to believe in. believing, or rather having the ritual of belief, can make things easier, but I have an extremely hard time actually believing in any type of higher power. So in this case I think the most "practical" form of this religion that I could see would be more of a philosophy extolling the virtues of Celestia. Or better yet, what if this religion had Celestia and Luna at its center, and then the mane 6 were kind of like Saints? each one of them is already an element of harmony, so you could just expand what that term means in the context of this philosophy.

This really isn't anything I could believe in, especially since we're all the ones coming up with the ideas, but I could see it being extremely...useful? I kind of feel like just having this philosophy would help be sunny and happy in the face of adversity and to remain accepting in the face of intolerance. This could be what takes the place of traditional faith for those who couldn't find anything in it before, at least for me.

To be quite honest, that sounds a little more like Agnosticism. Just from what I'm hearing. But really, hey, it could work. Many faiths don't have a central deity and are largely aesthetic philosophies. Buddhism is the most widely practiced example. Most sects don't worship the Buddha, in fact, he went out of his way to say he shouldn't be worshiped. The practice is about personal discovery and achieving a sense of inner peace. Harmony between yourself and the Universe. To achieve Enlightenment is to truly understand where you sit in the Cosmic Scheme of things. As before, you could do a lot worse than viewing these characters as patrons of virtue to be emulated. In my experience of growing up in a "traditional faith," in my case Christianity, any and all faiths appear valid as long as they extol teachings that don't prohibit coexistence. Really how can we know until we are six feet under? All we can do for certain is try to live our lives as best as we can and leave this World better than when we were born into it. If you can do that by asking yourself "What would a brave pony like Rainbow Dash do?" as a prayer, I say more power to you! In fact! As a brony, I believe I can give this blessing.

May Princess Celestia guide you with her light

May Princess Luna keep you with her night

May you follow the Six Saints and seek to do right

Emphasis on "seek" to do right. We all know they aren't perfect, nopony is, but they try. So do all of us. :)

I was actually thinking of Buddhism and Taoism when I thought about this. And in response to the agnosticism thing...I'm kind of half way between it and atheism because I really do want to believe in something, but I realized that deep down I don't. still it's nice to use faith when you need it. It's kind of like an equipable buff for me. Usable when I need it.

Same with me I guess. I would call myself devout. But not every thought and deed I accomplish is with God on my mind. I hope the same is true with most people! To live your life in total reverence is a wasted life. It's one thing if you are a monk or a priest, where it's a monastic lifestyle. It's another thing to simply be a Bible belter who can't take a step without declaring how wonderful Jesus is!

I'd make a comment about my religion here, but I don't want to sound too ironic.

We appreciate your discretion.

Nope, they are crazy. L. Ron Hubbard even admitted on his deathbed that Scientology was all just something he made up, but the followers claim he was tricked or drugged into committing blasphemy. Think about it. A religion founded by a...SCIENCE FICTION AUTHOR???

Good to know. I was not aware of that information and I didn't want to sound like some sort of hypocrite.

I got into Christianity when I was younger and was helping out at church because I wanted to help out, not because of some "call from god". I left and have since moved away from it but not entirely. Mainly because I didn't see my life any different to the way it was before hand hence my logic said it was pointless. I also felt I didn't need to be a christen to be a good person.

As my farther is getting older he has also moved away from Christianity as well and has now pretty much a Agnostic now seeking out knowledge an truth in all religions.

I guess i've I'm pretty much the same and believe there is a higher power but I don't feel the need to seek out knowledge of different religions. I'm contempt with what I know at this stage in my life.

Maybe when I get to my fathers age though, gives you something to do.

I don't see why you can't be a devout Agnostic. It doesn't mean that god has to be on your thoughts all the time as it does with Christianity. Well that was my interpretation of what i've heard.

In this sense to me it would mean your devoted to knowledge and the truth.

I can see that. I wouldn't call myself an Agnostic in the strictest sense, but I've been raised in a large Catholic family that's always told me "live and let live" when it came to religions. My parents never discouraged me from exploring other faiths. I just never really saw the point to since I learned about their practices and ethos through research. If there's something in the Catholic Doctrine against meditation and experiments (albeit fruitless ones) in dream walking, no one ever told me. And I personally don't see anything wrong with them. I am an atheist, but I don't doubt that treating things as though a deity will help you does help (psychologically) and I would sooner worship Celestia than Yahweh.

Really when it comes right down to it. Is there a difference? Isn't religion just a placebo effect with some good life lessons behind it? And does that lessen it's positive effect on the human mind? I don't mean to pester you! I'm agreeing with you.

I turn it into a role-playing game of sorts, I know its not real but I find it fun to treat it as though it is.

I am talking about mostly fictional religions, "Celestial-ism", Druidism (WoW) and even the religion from TES.

I am a huge nerd...

I love this quote:

"Scientology is bullshit! Man, I was there the night L. Ron Hubbard invented it, for Christ's sakes! ... We were sitting around one night... who else was there? Alfred Bester, and Cyril Kornbluth, and Lester del Rey, and Ron Hubbard, who was making a penny a word, and had been for years. And he said "This bullshit's got to stop!" He says, "I gotta get money." He says, "I want to get rich". And somebody said, "why don't you invent a new religion? They're always big." We were clowning! You know, "Become Elmer Gantry! You'll make a fortune!" He says, "I'm going to do it."."

- Harlan Ellison Speculative fiction author

(He hates being called a science fiction author!)

Some say that Hubbard had a bet with Robert Heinlein over who could invent a religion. "Stranger in a Strange Land" (one of my favorite books) is supposed to be Heinlein's attempt.

When he say purify all that is black, he means those with evil intentions in their heart, not the literal color.

Yes, but where do you think that colourcoding comes from?

The Yin/Yang?

Not hardly, Yin/Yang is based on equality between good and bad, not that one will conquer the other.

So, from darkness?

Not neccesarily, humans were once hunters themselves, and to most hunters, the dark is an advantage, and not a drawback ....

To me, it is obvious that that colourcoding is both more "modern" and "western" than that ....

And if you want to be purified from sin and protected from evil intentions, then why not simply say so?

Why go the way with adding a colourcoding that may really be racist at heart?

... Probably because one doesn't know that it is racist at heart, but think it is "as it always has been" .....

...

Sorry my ranting.
