My thinking was SG would go back in time and stop Twilight from meeting the rest of the Mane 6, and they would still have their cutie marks but wouldn't be friends. (Well, except for Pinkie and Fluttershy who seem to know each other anyway in the promo.) In addition to Twilight giving a speech before about the sonic rainboom connecting the six, Twilight, Spike, and Starlight popped out at what looks like flight camp after going through the time warp. Yet it still insists on using the Rainboom as the single act that ended up defining their destinies. I think the Rainboom is what connected them together - not just as friends, but as Elements of Harmony. Let's say you're right about them getting the same cutie marks if the Rainboom didn't happen - they still wouldn't have had the power to defeat Nightmare Moon, thus she would rule Equestria. I didn't realize this thread existed when I said this in the episode discussion:We knew there would be time travel involved before the promo. It was revealed in the synopsis already. Usually when they have a promo, you can see a miniature picture of the plot. Here, it was just a bunch of clips. Maybe it was poorly edited, but it didn't really look great. Notice how when Starlight sends them through this time portal thing. When Twilight and Spike arrive there, Twilight is still a princess, so that is really interesting. Is it going to be like they are experiencing everything in third person? Like a different dimension sorta? Honestly my biggest gripe with the concept of the finale was seeing Twilight not as a princess, which is what I thought we were gonna see, but this seems to negate that concept. IF so, then I will fear the finale a lot less. As for how the rest of it looks, without proper context, I cannot say for sure. It looks...interesting, but in a confused way. I just don't know yet. Not so. During the Stinger portion of Equestria Girls: Friendship Games, the Twilight from Equestria came on in, having came out of the Time Travel Loop. Think Bill Murray in "Groundhog's Day". The promo doesn't show that. I think it may not be related to the end of Friendship Games. It does look to me that a secondary timeline was created when Starlight somehow prevented Rainbow from doing a Sonic Rainboom. Will Twilight have to convince her to try again? Maybe Twilight will be able to jump back in time to a point before the Rainboom to give young Rainbow a pep-talk before her first race. Having said that, my Hype Train is redlining! Pretty brazen of Starlight to take the one pony and her ever-steadfast dragon sidekick back in time with her so they can watch her carry out her plan to undo history. When Twilight and Spike arrive there, Twilight is still a princess, so that is really interesting. Is it going to be like they are experiencing everything in third person? Like a different dimension sorta? If Twi and Spike were sent back to the Sonic Rainboom, I wonder what they did for 13-15 years while all her friends grew up? (The Mane 5 must be adults at some point in the finale since we see adult Fluttershy and Pinkie later in the promo in warpaint.) Maybe Twi and Spike end up 15 years older by the end of the finale... Not that it matters to the arc of the series - they're two of the few characters who can age and have it be plausible to not look any different! What if current-age Twi and Spike run into their younger counterparts? Most stories have bad things happen when time travelling characters meet their younger selves... 1 Are you a Spike fan? I'm not sure if them following along was intentional. It looked like Spike had grabbed hold of the scroll that Starlight used to cast the time travel spell, and the scroll was dragged into the past with Spike and Twilight holding onto it. If Twi and Spike were sent back to the Sonic Rainboom, I wonder what they did for 13-15 years while all her friends grew up? Given how Starlight looks to have taken over Ponyville, I'm expecting starlight glimmer will use her future knowledge to appear to the mane six as a messiah like character and "Steal" twilight's place as their leader by using her knowledge of what they are destined to do in life to help them gain their cutie marks. She'll then use them as her minions to help her take over ponyville and will try and use them to become the new element of magic and princess of friendship. I don't like the implications for one thing. Second thing, I'm sick to death of the mane five ultimately relying on Twilight's efforts to save the day on her own. Doesn't really seem like they'll have much of a role in this thing. Agreed freaking 100%. Wish I could brohoof a post multiple times because of how much I agree on that. I'm expecting this will play out exactly like Equestria girls: Twilight will travel to a new "world" (The new timeline) due to her being the only one independent of its effects where she'll find the others have been essentially corrupted by a Negative Clone of twilight (starlight glimmer) so that she can act as a messiah figure and "save" them. I already saw that crap once in EQG, hated it then, and I dislike that we're looking to probably get a repeat of it. It seems to combine my least favorite aspects of MMC and Twilight's Kingdom, mainly that it implies how wrong everything would be for Equestria without Twilight and how her friends could not live happy lives or do anything that would make the world better without her. A plus though is that it seem like Spike will get a decent role in this. Good for the little guy! Damn, here I thought I was the only person thinking that XD I hate it when they imply the other 5 are lost without twilight to lead them :/ I think it makes sense for the most part, but I do have to agree that it is pretty over the top. One thing to note is that Pinkie does have her normal cutie mark in the tribal shot. Maybe it wasn't just the rainboom that was affected? I don't know for now. Hopefully it will make much more sense in the finale, we only know so much. Edit: Someone pointed out that it might have been a "sophisticated" Applejack who did come back to Ponyville and modernized the heck out of it.
