How do you feel about celestia being so out of focus post s2?

Ever since post s2 she pretty much been a background character hell every princess has an ep. accept her, I know twilight doesnt need her as much and moving on but can't they find something to do with her make her more relevant. Give her a ep. or two, more lines, heck background character have probable gotten more lines then she has gotten post s2.

I feel like the writers have gobbled Celestia up, digested her and shat her out of their butts.

No other of the second tier characters has been more neglected, avoided and sucked out the potential and awesomeness from them like her. At this point i rather expect a Starlight Glimmer focused episode. Or one for Zecora, though i actually consider her as third tier character.

Well she only served as a mentor for Twilight and seeing as Twilight can now learn things on her own she has become useless, hence why the writers don't care about her anymore.

No matter how hard I try these ponies will simply never leave me.

Consider me okay with that. The characters obsessing over her at any moment that she appeared got old really fast. I would like to see some focus on Celestia and her bonding with her sister, that would be enjoyable but I am happy that she is not the end-all be-all important character god that she was in season 1 and 2.

While I am glad that all the characters in the show don't constantly obsess over her and treat her like she is super perfect or whatever, I am disappointed that 5 seasons in and we still haven't gotten a Celestia episode yet.

Something slice of life with her would be good, but I think if they ever have an episode that focuses on Celestia as she should be, she would be too OP.

I still think she held back in the encounter with Chrysalis, because she had faith in the new element bearers and deemed the experience for them as more vital than avoiding further delay in an already effed up wedding

If this overobsessing is that big of an issue, why do i not hear anyone complaining about the characters throwing themselves into the dust before Luna, even in Season Five?

Celestia - Annoying no-no

Luna - Nobody cares

Those double standards are typical once again. Luna wasnt even a mentor, yet it didnt prevent her to get a helloween episode for herself.

I just think there's a bit of a catch 22 with Celestia, personally I would like to see more of her, and I don't think her character has been done justice so far in any season. But it does seem tricky to find the right balance for her.

Luna is an original Alicorn, but still has things to learn and challenges to overcome. If they do have a Celestia based episode and show her having difficulty with something, people will complain because she should be all knowing and all powerful and nothing should be difficult for her. But if they do dipict her as all knowing and all powerful, what will the episode be about? There's a danger or challenge and Celestia eliminates it with no trouble at all, then has a cup of tea and does some paperwork.. It doesn't make for much of a story. So the only real option is an episode about personal relationships with others

sad that all she is good for is letters, info, and worfed.

She should have been able to serve as something else rather then a a one use mentor and after that shes a background character.

They don't have to have them fawning over her which mysteriously went away but treat her like a relevant character, How many lines or any relevant roles has she gotten post s2 they could give her more characterization, depth, or few eps after all shes the co ruler of the country.

What a stupid waste of potential. Even a log wouldn't be neglected this badly.

She's already been made pointless and useless, so I'm not sure how one season or even one episode can fix this. In other words, even though I would like an episode or two about her, I doubt I'll be satisfied.

Those "problems" are potential story ideas because they can explore her role in Equestria, with the ponies being an audience surrogate. And I don't know bow helping with a problem can't be an option for her.

I really wish she had more screentime, that we could see her more often.

Honestly, I think she even deserves her own episode, even Luna has her own episodes.

shes long overdue for an ep.

sadly, Celestia seems to be "obsolete" as far as the show creators are concerned. They turned twilight into an equal of Celestia's and seem highly Resistant to wanting to try and evolve celestia past this in any way shape or form.
Hell, look at the map. The map has for all intents and purposes replaced Celestia now, acting as twilight's "higher authority" being and quest giver, with twilight thinking about what the map and tree of harmony intends at points.

I really wish they'd focus on celestia as a teacher or just a regular pony more, kind of like what the comics did. Celestia was brilliant in her micro and in Luna's micro, and did very well in Spike/Celestia's FF by showing that she's NOT just twilight's mentor, but she seeks to teach many ponies. (Which I feel the show seeks to avoid establishing because it takes away from the special nature of being celestia's student for twilight if she's established to tutor many ponies)

I'm pretty okay with it. It's like how Obi-wan dies in the first half of the original movie or why Gandalf doesn't interact with Frodo post-Moria even though he comes back to the realm of the living.

Celestia, by her nature, is not a focus character. The unanswered questions about who she and Luna are in relation to the rest of the setting are exactly what make them both interesting.

The OP answered their own question, Twilight has become a Princess. She's matured and taken her place as Celestia's peer and a teacher in her own right. So Celestia's role as a mentor has been fulfilled so in the mechanics of the narrative it is her time to step back and let the student become the master.

sad a object replaced a living creator who was major from the early days.

Iknow that shes not needed for the mentor part but they could have transformed her a bit so she wont be useless after she's not needed now shes just a flat chacter/background pony.

She's not a "flat" character and some simply function better as background characters as I said initially.

A flat character is one with little identifiable traits, like a red shirt or any number of background ponies who the fandom has not deigned with a deluge of traits. Celestia HAS traits that make her a rounded character; she's dignified but likes to play it casual, she's patient when ponies make honest mistakes but has her limits to what she finds a more serious offense, she would rather work with others like Luna or Twilight to achieve a goal and help them advance themselves at the same time, and she likes cake. This is not a character that is devoid of quirks and traits unique to her within the context of her life.

Second of all, yes, sadly, not every character is meant to be prominent. Being a part of the setting is not bad though, in fact it's what hooked me to both the show and her in the first place. That she raised the sun, and took place in a creation myth made her more than just a head of state, she's almost a part of the world to a greater degree than the other ponies are. To take another example, look at Sauron from Lord of the Rings. We only see the guy himself in the prologue, the rest of the movie is trying to counter the threat he poses should he ever return. Yet he is the driver of conflict in the story, his presence is there without he himself ever needing to be physically present.

-The Blue Fairy

-The Prince of the Forest (Bambi)

-The Fairy Godmother

-Mufasa

All of these characters appear very briefly in the movies they appear in, but they both inform the setting, most of them even elevating it by their status on the cosmic totem pole, and their actions are pivotal in the heroes lives.

Celestia is such a character. She's like gravity . . . literally she's doing the job of gravity in this universe, but she does her job best when you don't know she's doing it.

I say all of this with her being my favorite character in the whole damn show.

It can be an option, if fans just chill out a bit. In the wedding episode a whole bunch of Bronies had a hissy fit because she didn't end the episode as soon as she got involved - and wasn't depicted as an OP god character that could solve anything in a matter of seconds. So if they want to see more of her, they need to accept that sometimes she might face challenges too

I don't mind if she loses a fight, but constantly being powerless against various problems for whatever reason is poor storytelling. There could've even been a story about how she (and other ponies) felt about her loss against Chrysalis in public.

we havent gotten much out of her look at other princesses other than twi luna has her worries and doubts and her luna eclipse one, heartbutt enjoys some adventure, and celestia well uh.  And we haven't really seen much of her traits in a long time I forgotten her traits. Hell I'd say the B6 gotten more lines in that episodes than Tia in 3 seasons.

Yes, and that's okay. She's not dead (if that's even possible) her part in the saga of the Mane Six's lives is now just no different than that of the average pony. She's an unseen constant in their lives.

If you just want to see more of her, regardless if it makes any sense within the story . . . well I would advise against it as a writer but there's always the comics which feature her and Luna more prominently for some arcs.

Oh them.

To be honest, no she doesn't. Or to put it another way, she deserves NOT to have an episode. Again, as I've said, part of what makes both her and Luna interesting is that we don't know a lot about them. Yes they both have unique traits that make them defined characters but they suffer when the story is ABOUT them. They're like Columbo or James Bond, they're best presented when we see what they do not who they are, and that what is hold the fabric of the world together. Something that would be tedious and repetitive if shown in detail over the course of even one episode.
