Oh boy! I knew Square was going to screw something up, and here it is. FF7 is going to be episodic!

This is the kind of crap that makes me glad they haven't decided to remake FF6. This has all kinds of fail all over it.

You do realize that is FFVII is a multidisc game? It shouldn't surprise you that the remake game will be episodic.

Um...and why exactly is this a bad thing?

Doesnt that simply mean, that the game has a Cliff Hanger now and then and then simply continues?

Whats the big deal?

Square Enix did already show us, that they are good at making Episodic games, like Life is Strange and that game was very good in my Opinion.  :squee:

They are worse things in my opinion than simply, making the game episodic. Thats just splitting the game up in many chapters. Thats all that happens, or not?

The game play shown has me crazy excited since i loved crisis core more than 7 so my hopes are high and episodic games are a big thing now (look at Revelations 2). Being episodic won't take anything away from the game it just means you cant complete it in one glorious week XD

Anyway don't be so dramatic. We know almost nothing about the game so don't get so angry about the 2 things they have shown us about the game.

Also since they are remaking apparently everything in the game it will be crazy big so the episodic decision makes sense

7 isn't long enough to be split like that. THe multidisc thing, was because of CD and Hardware limitations of 97. This is 2015, there are games that arn't split into parts, that make 7 seem small and short.

Gonna wait and see. Apparently Squeenix is using this model to get the game out quicker(not rushed quicker). Also some games like Resident Evil Revelations 2 were still well received despite having episodic releases, and on top of that its worked very well for Tell Tale games.

There's still a ton of bullshit surrounding it, and Squeenix has a track record of taking forever to do things. But I'm pretty sure Square is aware of the ramifications of could happen if they screw this up. This may be a controversial move, and one I'm not a fan of, but I'd like to think they know what they're doing

Oh, I'm pretty sure that the FF7 remake and Cloud in Smash, are just ways to distract away from FF15 and KH3 being delayed.

I definitely do not like this idea. I hate the idea of not getting the full game when you buy it and this industry has been toying with that poison a lot lately. This is not as bad as other examples, like stupid season passes and whatnot, but I think they should just finish it completely. Yeah, it would be a bit of a wait, but wouldn't build excitement more and more?

Hey! I can actually shed some light onto the reasoning for why they are pushing the game out in episodic format that makes total sense as to why Square Enix is doing this and why it's a good thing!

The episodic format is actually a REALLY GREAT format for games. You end up paying the full price of the game ONLY if you really enjoy the game. This allows them to give people a really nice chance to try the game for a small fee without forcing people to drop that $60 and finding out they hate the game. It's really great for the players, and for those who REALLY enjoy it, they will be able to get the game periodically. Now for those who want the physical copy, they need only wait for it to release if they want to play it all in one go.

This also is what I like to call the "hype defense". This game is obviously going to be a big undertaking and thus take time to develop. They clearly will be worried about hype ruining the final product as has happened in the past. Remember how much flack Fallout 4 received on day one due to people overhyping it to the point where it could not live up to the hype? This way they can get a part of the game out while they work on another part. It deflates some of the hype so that they do not get expectations that can not be reached. It gives them more time to develop the game without the fear of overhype.

Building excitement can be a bad thing in the industry these days as people's expectations of games are already insanely high.

well hopefully it won't screw it up too much, this was my favorite game when it first came out!

We're talking about SquareEnix, the company that builds too much hype, and the company who's first idea for an MMORPG was to charge a monthly fee, and then charge $4 per character you made.

There is no justification for FF7 being split, other than greed. And it's not going to be cheaper than a whole game that would cost $60, because those "episodes" will probably be $30-40, each.

Honestly, i think if it took to long to release a lot of people would loose interest since the game would have been teased for so long that hype would have died down.

I guess, but honestly, I don't see excitement for a remake like this dying down anytime soon.

I highly doubt they are going to try and milk the episodes for more than the usual $60 game considering very few games that do episodic format do that. Really this isn't a bad thing, it gives you the option to try the game for less and if they don't like it they don't need to dump the full $60.

Well... it was as i feared. Cloud is officially Meg Ryan. Just kidding :)

I'll see it in a second.

Edit: Ok i had to click out when he mentioned NAH FF7 IS OVERATED DOOD. FF6 IS BEST USA!!!

So i watched this. And.... umm... predictions :twi:

This is what happens when you don't have Sakaguchi involved. Nomura is known for his melodramatic tear drops and non masculinity portrayal to say the least. I like FF7 though, the charm of lego figures in overhead view, and then the awesome summonings in battle. FF7 PS1 is awesome!

It's far too early to determine whether a remake is doomed. We know absolutely nothing about how they're portraying the characters, they've only really said a few lines; we aren't sure how the episodic thing is going to work yet (Actually there was an interview with Nomura about that, can't find it though), we've only seen like 11 seconds of the gameplay; shouldn't we wait for more information than jumping to conclusions? I'm not a big fan of the episodic release, but i'm willing to wait and see.

@@Lithophila,

The right picture of Cloud is, I believe, from a game after FF7 took place. If you had to go through all of the shit Cloud had to put up with on the first game, i'm sure you'd look like 'CLOUD NOW' too. He has quite a lot of issues to work with.

FF7 on the PS1 is awesome, though! Won't argue with that.

He seemed pretty confident to me. "Let's mosey" was like one of the wimpy joke term he used before facing the final battle. And besides, he wasn't suppose to live. That Advent Children movie is purely ignoring that Holy cast out humanity who destroyed the planet, and then you get the recycling of evolution which you see a couple of 100 years later... Or even if we assume humans live, the way Advent Children portrays it is wrong. Since you can see in the next vid down below what happend to Midgar when Holy intervened, and had to more or less adopt to nature than what they used to hurt the planet before.

7:31-9:39

what really creeped me out was the laughter O_o its like cycle of life will start cultures and wars from hearing it!

The point of the beginning was that Cloud more or less inhereted Zack's personality. And there is a reason to this. When Zack got him out of the capsule he was more or lessed infected with Mako poison on level 3, so he was in a really unstable state. Which is why you hear him in the PS1 version going all "... uugh.. " and stuff. Basically on the way til Zack died, (btw Crisis Core made the whole event pointless :P) But basically Cloud was not fully himself and mostly unaware until he went to Midgar, where Tifa found him. Infected her memories that he somewhat came home as a 1st class soldier which didn't happen. And during the whole game he struggle with identity crisis. So its not like he is suffering from melodrama disorder in general. The only thing i found mostly tragic was his talk with his mother.

Mother: "I bet girls never leaves you alone. Cloud: Not really

The idea of assumptions and naive expectations... psychologically its really pitiful. Which makes it so real more or less.

Like i admire FF7 PS1 game for its use of psychology and other well formulated stuff. But its not the way people who like it now view it, its more for the bad adaptations like movies and that etc.

@@Lithophila,

Oh, that's what you meant! Sorry, I was thinking about it the wrong way. I personally think that Advent Children made Cloud a little too angsty and kinda flanderized some of the characters too much - don't get me wrong, I loved Advent Children, it's a great movie, but some of the characters felt way too different. Cid, Yuffie, Aerith, Rufus, and Vincent were fine, but Cloud felt way too angsty, The Turks were played for comedy far too much (especially Reno; did everyone suddenly forget he dropped Sector 7?), and Tifa just felt... off. Sephiroth's remnants i'm giving a pass because they were meant to be flanderizations. I think that after FF7 Cloud should be a little melodramic; not so much that it takes over his personality or is too much of a burden, but enough that it's there. I've always thought that after FF7 Cloud would be his old self plus a little angst because of the events in FF7. Still adorkable (Let's mosey.) but has a healing mental scar from FF7's events.

I like how they did Zack and Cloud's last stand in Crisis Core; I personally thought it was extremely well done and a lot more emotional than it was in FF7... Probably because of how Zack's DPS was used and how everything started to slowly fade away and glitch out. I agree that they should've upped more of the mako poisoning's affect with Cloud; it really didn't feel like Cloud was in any mental anguish. I know I sound like a sadist for saying that but i'm a sucker for characters with deep psychological issues that're shown, and i'm holding out that Square Enix is going to make FF7: The Remake as psychologically interesting as the first. I'm pretty optimistic about that because of the way Nomura's portraying Cloud in the trailer; how sickly he looks and everything, shows how he's on the verge of dying if it wasn't for mako.

Also, glad to see we share the same love of Cloud's mother's scene thingy. That's probably one of my favorite scenes in the game; it's really... I don't know how to put it in words, mentally upsetting? Extremely disturbing because of all of the glitching? Extremely tragic and heartfelt? All three of these things? Probably. It's the scene i'm most excited to be in the remake. Well, second to the famous crossdressing scene.

I have to sorta argue against it. It was way too anime (Not to offend anime fans : 3)

But its not only that. Well...

1: Cloud was suppose to be a mute, like not function much. The fact that he is aware of Zack's death just completely ruin the identity switch that happens in Midgar

2: The lifestream is the afterlife stuff in FF7. Zack gets taken up in heaven. I call bleep on that one :rarity:

But other than that i have no objections to some of the other stuff you said :ooh:

I've also never really liked how they portray Cloud completely monotone. I mean he is not thaaat boring. Atleast not how i imagined him in FF7. But yeah... Fantasy is great either way :twi:

@@Lithophila,

Maybe I liked it because i'm an anime fan?whatever i dunno.mlp-fecstatic.png

I thought Cloud's scream at the end when Zack died was a little melodramatic, I expected it to be a softer farewell, but eh. About Cloud witnessing Zack;s death I've assumed that Cloud is so psychologically screwed up by that point that the mako screws with his brain enough that it shuts out Zack's death from his brain, not that it erases the memory, but enough that Cloud doesn't want to think back on it. Later, when he's 'himself' again, he obviously remembers Zack, but during the time when Cloud was a puppet he kinda shut everything involving Zack (including the death) away and replaced himself with Zack, except for key moments (AKA when he meets his mother again, when zack dies, etc).

Also I thought Zack went into the Lifestream except it looked like he was going into heaven? Or maybe Lifestream heaven? Hell if I know. You know, that begs the question; if the Lifestream is the afterlife in FF7, then how come angel wings exist? Is anybody on the planet aware that the wings that Genesis/Angeal/Sephiroth grew are angel wings? Does anybody know the wings are an angels, or knows what an angel is? If there are no angels, then how come Sephiroth's jam is called One-Winged Angel?
