technology Need Help Choosing Computer Upgrades

Greeting everybody!

Now recently, I've been thinking about upgrading my computer, but I'm unsure what to upgrade to. As such I've decided to ask you in the form of a hypothetical scenario:

If you had a budget of £300/$446.76/€411.12 to spend on upgrading your gaming computer, specifically the CPU or GPU, which would you upgrade first and to what?

(Thank you in advance)

As blaze said, it depends on what you have right now. Personally I wouldn't go for either of them. I'd get a good SSD.

What good is a good SSD if your computer is not powerful enough to run the apps that you'd be installing on it?

GPU is more important to spend than a CPU has any quad core intel cpu will get the job done. Having a good graphics card is more important for you to have.

Also, it depends on what your motherboard is compatible with. What brand and model is your motherboard? Also, what kind of case you have as higher end graphics card are big and do demand plenty of space in a case, enough that it won't even fit in a computer case.

Finally, as Key Sharkz says, a Solid State Drive is not necessary as not only is it considered a luxury item, but it's also much more expensive than a HDD where you're more likely going to want that HDD's larger storage capacity than the SSD's better performance, especially at  the budget you're looking into.

I said personally, as in "if it was me upgrading my computer". And my computer is certainly capable :P Since OP haven't provided any specs I'm just assuming that he has a decent computer. And since I don't play any games a SSD would be the best pick for me. Then again, he specifically said gaming computer. I would say get a new graphics card but then one could come with the same argument again, "what is a good graphics card if your cpu is not powerful enough to run it?".

It depends on what games are you playing. For most games you just need to upgrade your Graphic card, but for some sandbox games with physics engines, space engineers, for example, upgrading the CPU and adding more memory banks might be a better choice. Personally, I don't think SSDs are necessary.
