This isn't just your basic, "do you like EQG" topic. I knew how much the EQG fanbase has grown, but I want to know exactly when it grew.

Check the box for the one that best fits you, and comment below why that particular movie/time took you over.

If you don't think an option fits you, feel free to comment below as well!

If you still aren't sure on the Acronyms:

-EQG = Equestria Girls

-RR = Rainbow Rocks

-FG = Friendship Games

When I first saw EQG I was just neutral about it didn't hate it, didnt love it, thought it was ok. Then RR came out I and most bronies loved it and still do to this day.

I actually like EQG more than FIM but it's only by a slight bit and that's just what I think.

I clicked "I have and always will despise EQG." But in reality, it's more like this:

  1. The first film is objectively worse in writing quality than every single episode of the show. It's G3 levels of awful! And it includes the show's worst scene: VP Luna interrogating Twilight.
  2. Rainbow Rocks improved on several key flaws from EQG1, including using Equestrian magic as a blatant contrivance and broken pacing. But the characters sans Spike are flat and the humor is often abusive. But at least DHX tried, and the three shorts following RR offer some hope for its future.
  3. Friendship Games competes with Boast Busters and Mare Do Well in writing quality. CHS and Crystal Prep are stereotypes. The whole plot rips off Goblin of Fire. Everyone in CP besides Cadance and Twilight is a one-dimensional, stereotypical asshole. No sane parent or guardian would ever allow the schools to green-light dangerous events (including a requirement to use a wheel saw to construct a bird's nest, archery, and motocross without preparation!). There's so much more to cover here, but that'll take up plenty of the page, so I'll stop here.

Watching FG and hating it for its really lazy story proved to me how there's absolutely nothing worthwhile about this terrible spinoff. The more you try to apply some sense to it, the more broken all three films (especially EQG1 and FG) become. I have literally no faith in the tentatively-titled Legend of the Everfree, because its pattern of embracing stereotypes, thrusting magic arbitrarily, disregarding past continuity, and poor execution of Sunset's redemption (including reforming her via a character reset, which is ignored) is against everything good-quality storytelling stands for.

I liked Equestria Girls right from the first. It's different than MLPFIM, but that's fine with me. It's possible to like different things at different times, so I'm quite good with both the show and the movie variants. My favorite of the trilogy is Rainbow Rocks though. It has the best music of the three, and the most compelling story-line.

I loved them from the very first time I watched the first movie, but I could see why people might not have liked it. But the last two have been really good, it's no surprise that more and more people are picking it up.

The first movie was rather meh to me (which is what I thought before it came out), not horrible but nothing that was all that great either. Rainbow Rocks on the other hand was great so I guess no opinion until RR for me.

Enjoyed them since the beginning. I also agree with most of what Cindy here below said.

From the beginning, it didn't matter to me that they were humans in high school; Ponies or humans, they were still relatable characters that still gave the lesson about how Friendship is a powerful thing.

"The Magic of Friendship doesn't just exist in Equestria; it's everywhere! You can seek it out, or you can forever be alone; the choice is yours."

-Princess Twilight Sparkle, EG1

"I don't think anyone is supposed to have all the answers, but you can count on your friends to help you find them."

-Sunset Shimmer, RR

"I may know about a lot of things, but Friendship isn't really one of them, and I'm definitely not going to learn more about it by being alone all the time."

-Human Twilight Sparkle, FG

^Like how I've quoted the protagonist of each film? ;)

None of my those come close to how I felt about the series but I thought Equestria Girls the first movie was boring but still better than the other two mainly because it was trying something new out albeit still being a generic high school musical chick flick. Rainbow Rocks and Friendship Games were bleh.

So you dont feel strongly about any of them. Or else you were apathetic towards the first one, and dislike the others?

That's a very strange opinion. Not wrong by any means. But I have never heard someone like that.

I wouldn't say I "disliked" the first film. When the first promos were released, I was optimistic and avoiding the people crying "WORST THING EVER!!". But then they revealed that the main point of the plot involved "fish out of water" comedy involving Twilight being thrown into a completely different world and I gradually lost interest and avoided seeing it, especially when the early reviews came back with "Average at best". I've seen enough footage from the first film by now to know that if I watched it now, I still wouldn't like it

Rainbow Rocks barely registered on my radar when it was announced. Then I listened to the amazing soundtrack and started hearing people clamouring about how much better it was. When my local theatre decided to play it for one day, I took that as a sign to give it a shot and despite a few hiccups, I came away from it with a much better appreciation for the films. Then they released the "My Past is Not Today" promo and Sunset became one of my new favorite characters and after seeing Friendship Games (My person favorite of the three) I can safely say I've become a fan of the Equestria Girl's series.
