Hey All!

My name is Peter York and I have been a filmmaker since I was a little kid. I always loved filming lifestyles and subcultures and have finally made some really important decisions in my life to do what I love. I quit my 9-5 job to start being a documentary filmmaker and create a series of hour long documentaries on subcultures. My angle is to objectively show what these subcultures are, who is apart of them, how they started and to try and pinpoint their popularity. I am really excited about starting this and I figured this would be a great place for me to ask a few questions and see what you all think! First, I would like to let you all know that my first subculture will be Bronies/Pegasisters. I have friends who are obsessed with MLP Friendship is magic and they swear by the show more than anything. I am interested in digging deeper into what it is that makes you guys who you are! some questions I have for all of you,

1. What Brony documentaries do you like and why?

2.Which Brony Documentaries do you not like and what aspects of them turned you off?

3.What events should I be going too in order to get into the middle of the action?

4.Who should I be talking to in your community that could give me more insight?

I just have these few questions for now, if you could take a moment and help me out that would really be awesome. Again, I am so excited to get started on this and I want to do it right and have the support of all of you behind me with this film. I want to make something we can all be proud of and have alot of fun making! If anyone is interested in being interviewed or if you are available for a phone call or skype please let me know!

Thank you so much!

Peter

1. They all have some aspects that are well done, some I could name are "Bronies: The unexpected adult fans of my little pony" and "a Brony tale," watched the first one all the way through and the second briefly

2.The brony fandom is probably not a response to 9/11, ISIS attacks, or any particular violent events in recent history. it could be correlated with the violent atmosphere in our world today, often partly contributed by heavy emphasis and sensationalization of violent events by the media, but correlation is not necessarily causation. I remember "a Brony Tale" took this approach.

3. Bronycon, it is the first and largest my little pony convention I believe, correct me if I'm wrong.

4. As diverse as possible, anywhere from someone who perfectly fits the "brony stereotype" to its complete opposite. Avoid bias as much as possible. Sure some people might cherrypick that one stereotypical brony but others will see that the brony fandom is diverse.

Thank you all so much for your replies! I really appreciate all this advice! I feel as though many of the brony documentaries spend too much time on the why and hows of MLP Friendship is magic having a different target audience than anticipated. I want to focus on the people themselves that are in the fandom. I want to follow a few people as they go to cons and what their life is like at home/school/work. My goal, is to see what role being a brony plays in their everyday lives. If you are familiar with MTV's Documentary series True Life the formatting would be quite similar. Let me know if you have any questions or ideas/concerns. I really want this to be great and am spending a lot of time and effort making sure I do this right. If any of you have suggestions for me on what you think would could make this a great documentary please let me know! Once again thank you for your responses!

Sounds about right to me. But as a special note, I'll just say my own answers, since I'm writing here:

1. Reviews in general always have a bias or some truth, so it's best to just take something from any you see.

2. I think that, if it's their opinion, so be it. You can say the topic has brought upon some bad reviews, but really, they have their bias and beliefs, so they can't be wrong. Although, the reviews that state that the general brony populace is like this, those are usually pretty off. Bronies are definitely diverse.

3. Yep. I'd say Bronycon. I have never been there, but I have heard plenty about it.

4. Every single brony is different, review as many as possible. Unless you have set answers in your reviews, you'll be hard pressed to find brony twins.

Hope this helps :)
