movies/tv Films that should not have been rated PG or R

Okay, this will be an interesting topic. Often, films receive ratings that are appropriate for their content, but other times, a film might be rated a certain rating for the wrong reasons OR, more importantly, they were miss-rated simply because of the lack of the now common PG-13 rating, which result in some films in the 80's to get a rating that would definitely not be a case nowadays. Except for The Thing, that movie should be rated D for Disturbing.

So what are some films that you think should not have gotten its PG rating or perhaps its R rating?

Several early James Bond movies and Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Actually, I think that last movie was part of the reason why they eventually made a PG-13 movie

Monty Python and the Holy Grail would have been rated PG-13 if it was made after 1984. It was edgy for its time.

There's one movie in particular that I love, which I feel would have been fine with a PG-13 rating, but was purposely manipulated with a scene specifically shot to give it an R rating. This was because the Director didn't want it to be seen as another "Teen angst" movie. What I'm talking about is Planes, Trains and Automobiles starring Steve Martin and John Candy. Most of the movie is pretty harmless, a few crude jokes here and there, but nothing that would justify an R rating.

The only reason it happened of course is because of Steve Martin's infamous scene where he confronts a car salesclerk after having to hike 5 miles back from discovering the car he rented was not there, and proceeds to vent his frustrations on the poor woman, spewing out the F word 18 times in under a minute. While it's admittedly a hilarious scene, it feels kind of out place for the rest of the movie and it's a shame that as a result you can't find this being aired pre-watershed (more importantly, nor can I suggest it for Equestria TV's Movie Night. :P).

To bring this thread back, I want to give another example: The Fog. This movie to me is incredibly eerie and has a soundtrack that is terrifying, but even with this, the movie really didn't need an R rating. Sure, the movie is definitely scary, but it has no harsh language, no blood, no gore, just some off screen kills and some incredibly eerie atmosphere. Nowadays this movie would definitely get a PG-13 rating like the remake, but the remake was awful so there is that.

This Topic is about Movies who got rated high, but arent actually that bad right?

If so, pretty much every Horror Movie release in Germany, because, a LOT of Movies get an 18 Rating, just to sell more copies, despite the Fact that most of them are censored anyway.

Best example would be Dawn of the Dead, a Movie sooooo cut, that a child could watch it.

There cuts of it, so bad, that there is only blood for a split second. Like one scene.

Germany really sucks, when it comes to Horror Movies.  :okiedokieloki:
