I have since quit and semi-came back. I left because Megan McCarthy was reducing Season 4 to a solid pile of garbage. All the people I've known in the fandom have pretty much left. My guess is its a side effect of the large number of talented Brony youtubers, artists, and authors that populate our Fandom. Though I feel there are some idolized folks in other Fandoms as well,I can't really say as this is the only Fandom I'm most committed towards. though I don't think they're idolized that much. I think its still growing, the last bronycon was bigger than ever and all the other cons have followed suit as well. But I understand where you're coming from. It seemed that every 10-year-old on the block was a "brony" because they wanted to be edgy and different. Different reasons like having someone to relate to, keeping us busy when there's no episode coming or outside of it. But I think it's also part of the Internet culture to idolize popular fans. And Bronies belong to that culture. Back on topic, I didn't feel fans where quitting the show during S4. It happened somewhere around S5, with redeeming villains as one of the reasons. I mean what the f*ck where the writers thinking after I heard they redeemed Diamond Tiara. If I had to choose how she'll end between forgiving her or kicking her out of town I'll choose the second option. And yes, Starlight's redeeming was stupid too. Nixon said it best: "The silent majority" Albeit the context was for voting, but it applies in a great deal including fandoms. As for popular, I don't think we have popular such as The Living Tombstone anymore. However we do have a great deal of popular artist who are rising up the ranks to fill places like TLT left. I'm taking popular as in reference to famous mlp creators.
