Who is the strongest pony in magic?

Twilight's magic is stronger than starswirl the bearded's because it was proven in the episode when she became a princess (Princess Celestia said so herself) But, Starlight's magic is stronger than Twilight's (its evident in season 5's last episode, Twilight had to convince her to stop) Trixie's magic is stage magic. I've never seen moondancer's magic so idk. Celestial and Luna's magic is the same.

So I think that its a tie between celestia, starlight, twilight, and Luna (maybe)

did SG create the spell that s sh e used to alter Starswirl's spell? Because if not, then she was stacking two of Starswirl's pells, and if that was the case, if Twi was stronger then Starswirl, then she would been able to stop the spell, and not talk SG down knto stopping it herself, because it wouldn't have been her own spell.

Depends on what you mean. In raw power, Celestia; she raises the sun on a daily basis. But Starwirl has mastered and created hundreds of different spells, including one (unfinished) to move the stars, so he's the most advanced. And then there's Twilight, who has the most potential, via containing and using the combined magic of three alicorns plus her own, at once, without much of an issue. So... you just have to define.

Twilight Sparkle when she had the other alicorn's powers. That was quite OP and funny when she moved the moon n sun around with poor control like trying to play osu while drunk.

But she admitted Starlight is better in magic than she. So Starlight or another Alicorn.

But wait.

how many parts pony is he to the other parts of creatures he's made out of?

Maybe it's a recessive trait. We don't know how much "pony" is in him and seeing that he may have the most potential in magic.

Starlight Glimmer, she could go back in time with an altered spell. The alicorns, because alicorn magic is probably the strongest magic.

Starswirl - According to Twilight, he created over 200 spells, including a time traveling spell, and managed to defeat and banish the Sirens, all without ever even knowing anything about friendship.  With all of his experience, he is probably the most powerful pony (not including the magic of friendship).

Celestia - I personally have a theory that Celestia has way more power than what she reveals, but right now we just don't know enough about her powers to be sure.

Starlight Glimmer - Aside from Celestia and Luna, Starlight is the only pony that seems to have more raw talent than even Twilight has.  She just hasn't been able to use this raw talent as well as Twilight because she doesn't understand much about friendship yet, but she has a huge amount of potential.

Luna - Again, we don't know much about Luna's powers except that she can enter the dream world.  Aside from that unique ability, though, she is most likely less powerful than Celestia is.

Twilight - Has a large amount of raw talent, though still isn't as powerful in unicorn/alicorn magic as Starswirl is.  However, Twilight is still learning and has a lot of potential, so one day she may become more powerful than Starswirl.  Also, she has mastered the magic of friendship, and because of that, I would say that she is the most powerful pony (except for maybe Celestia).

It should be noted that FIM magic seems to have some kind of rock-paper-scissors logic to it...

One minute, Twilight fails to cancel Discord's magic at Sweet Apple Acres; and the next, she can break his brainwashing on herself and her friends as well as cast a reality-unwarping bubble around them.

One minute, Celestia's magic fails to shield the Elements from Discord; and the next, it works like a charm.

One minute, Luna is likewise helpless against Discord; and the next, she can just zap him asleep:

Excluding external sources of power such as the Elements of Harmony, or the Alicorn Amulet, Starlight Shimmer could potentially be the most powerful.  She's certainly in a different league to most unicorns, and even managed to fight Twilight Sparkle as an ascended alicorn to a stalemate.

Common logic would seem to dictate one of the royal sisters would be the most powerful, but we haven't really seen an awful lot from them.  People will of course argue that they move the sun and moon, but those particular abilities are linked to their cutie marks, and we have seen previously seen unicorns displaying powerful magic tied to their specific talents that exceed the capabilities of more generalised magic users.  For example, in 'Suited for success' we see Rarity quite casually using an ability very similar to that shown by Twilight Sparkle at the start of 'Magic duel', a spell which clearly took considerable exertion on Twilight's part.  When it comes to unicorns whose talent is magic itself, there seems to be some truth in the old adage, 'Jack of all trades, master of none'.

So barring seeing something spectacular from either Celestia or Luna (not saying which, that argument has been done to death), then I would be inclined to say that Starlight Shimmer is the most powerful pony, given only what we have seen in the cartoon.

Just want to say that's not quite accurate. Luna's moved the sun, Celestia's moved the moon, Twilight and Discord have moved both, and it was the job of the unicorns to pass the day and night before the Royal sister's, as assisted by Starswirl. Less to do with special talents, and more a direct application of magical force.

I imagine there is some similarity between moving the sun, and moving the moon, so there's no reason why the magic that enables Celestia to move the sun, wouldn't be applicable to the moon as well (at least to a certain extent), and vice-versa for Luna.

It took six unicorns to do the same, and it permanently depleted those unicorns magic (except for Starswirl), probably because it was outside of their individual expertise and therefore harder to maintain (see my previous example regarding Rarity and Twilight).  And Discord is not a pony.  Being the spirit of chaos the fact he isn't bound by the same rules is axiomatic.
