Does it even matter if Apples and Pies are related?

I mean, because yeah, it was implied and open-ended in Pinkie Apple Pie, but didn't AJ herself say way back in Spuer Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000 that she considered ALL of her friends to be honorary family?

What do you guys think? Should blood relation have even been brought into question, after that episode?

I want them to be related and also not. I want them to be related for Pinkie and AJ, but not for Big mac and Marble Pie. Big Mac X Marble Pie is one of the few ships I'll except from anything ever.

Not so, in fact, is biologically encouraging for third cousins or below to form a family, and in case the apples and pies are related, they would be so distant that it wouldn't matter

I highly doubt that. I would be impossible for a species to last long like that, as it'll inevitably lead to inbreeding. I've read that in order for humanity to build a healthy population, they have to start with a population of around 2000 or so people. That's why I think the Adam/Eve tale is nonsense

It doesn't mean too much at this point, BUT, I definitely would love to see some huge backstory behind it, because the Pies and Apples are indeed related, then they must have some pretty deep history. If not recent then there must be some way back when and that would be awesome to see, more worldbuilding and such.

I hope you aren't meaning that from a religious standpoint, because that would be rather odd for this discussion.

It's a great question to ask. From a practical standpoint, whether or not the Pies or Apples are related has no direct effect on anything. The Mane 6 pretty much are family, even if not by blood, for the strength of their bond. There would be little to no effect on episode storylines if any such revelation was made, thus I find it inconsequential for all intents and purposes besides being another interesting tidbit for the wiki pages.

 

Shipping is outside the realm of this show, so I don't find it worthy of comment.

If they are famiy the blood relations are so distant that no ones immediate/extended family can exactlly pin point it--So I'm pretty sure it's safe for the Big Mac/Limestone shippers.

I think it's mainly the novelty that a close friend of yours actually does have some sort of connection to your own family. Even if she called them honorary family, it doesn't really seem like she treats them all that differently than just being friends (and the honorary family thing mainly came about during a point where they needed extra help to win a cider making contest). If they're legitimately family, then that can lead to rethinking how your relationship is, plus the rest of the family reconsidering their relationship to the friend as well. Plus it doesn't only just include them more, but it also gives reason to try and include the rest of their family too.

Seeing as how they're both from Earth Pony backgrounds they're more likely to be related to each other than the others of the Mane 6, which would be the reason they were chose for Pinkie Apple Pie in the first place. Does it matter? Well clearly not since the answer was deliberately avoided in order to prove a point. Which is something the writers have become accustomed to leading to much unresolved world building potential. But I digress.

 

I doubt we'll ever find out and I don't see Marble Mac going anywhere beyond a G rating or producing any little apple pastries of their own so it's moot.
