Should the theme song be changed or at least majorly updated?

I think it needs to. The show's intro was alright for Season 1 but Season 3 and on it's sticks out like a sore thumb. IMO it poorly fits the show in its current state.

 

The foreign themes (especially the Italian and Japanese) are flat out awesome and represent FIM perfectly. Then you look at the US version and are like... ehhhh... heck even the G3 version does a better job.

 

You may disagree but personally the intro needs a revamp.

The intro has become something of an anthem to me. It's what makes MLP...well MLP. When Twi flies down with the Balloon and you hear "My little pony, my little pony, ah ah ah..." it's just pure beauty.

 

But i will say that they certainly won't copy and paste it. They will probably update it, into a longer version for the movie.

I would like to see updated visuals ... AFTER the arrival shot that still has unicorn Twi. I know we have the changing photo shot ... but maybe tweak the intro parts of the other characters a little. Keep the song. It's too iconic.

I would at least like to see updated visuals for the entire theme song.

Or flat out replace the theme song with the EQG remix which in my opinion sounds a million times better than the actual theme song.

No. The theme is one of the main things of MLP that makes it MLP. Now for the intro scenes, those could use an update.

I think it's fine as it is, really. I like how it's kept basically the same, just tweaked a bit for every new season.

 

 If they do change it though, I still want them to keep the opening part with unicorn Twi hopping out of the balloon and meeting her friends before her reveal as an Alicorn near the end. It's like a tiny little dose of nostalgia with every new episode.

I'd 100% be for it. I LOVE how they've replaced the jingle at the end of most of the episodes with other music instead of that jingle, and I'd love for them to update the intro with a different song instead.

 

I really have never liked that jingle and always skip it. It just sounds TERRIBLE to me. on the other hand, there are many shows where I enjoy the theme song so I'll gladly sit through the intro-- make it something like that.
hell, there are tons of songs that I feel would make for a better theme for FIM than the intro jingle (let the rainbow remind you was a good one).


As an additional caveat, changing the show tune would help to make it more approachable for young males to watch the show without feeling self conscious, and with the GOH toyline coming up, that's not a bad thing to do.

Five years, and it hasn't grown on me. Anything could be better (not literally). It needs to be changed. It's cringe-inducing, unlike the show. We've gone beyond that. Why does ours have to be so bland and cheesy?

The theme song must stay, it's too identified with the show to drop it. A slight variation in the arrangement could almost be workable but honestly all I'd want is a change of visuals. Those need a reboot. What's the deal, Snips and Snails warrant a spot among the big players shown at the beginning? I think not. If they're going to do that they'd better get Derpy in there too. 

Since they've changed the closing credit music to seemingly random background music from each episode, they should put a broader revisionist version of the theme there. That's where it would fit properly.
