gaming Watch Dogs 2: Will it be great, or will it flop?

If you haven't heard yet, Watch Dogs 2 has been officially announced.

There are a few more videos explaining the new features in the game. The first Watch Dogs had some major flaws that seriously brought it down, but it also had potential. Reactions seem to be mixed. Some think it could be a great game and fix everything the first game did wrong. Others think it will suck. I want to get a idea on what you guys think.

I think it could be awesome. The biggest problems with the first Watch Dogs (for me) was the character and the story. Aden was boring and overall unlikable. The story dragged on longer than it should have. There were a few problems with the gameplay too. I loved the hacking element, but the combat wasn't great. When I played, I took a stealth approach, which worked great, but when I got into firefights I found the gameplay lacking. The driving was also terrible, and the missions relied on it a little too much.

The new game promises to learn from the mistakes of the first game. The new character seems much more interesting than Aden was, and the story seems more interesting. Instead of an anti-social vigilante on a revenge mission, it is more about a group of young hackers rebelling against the system. They also promise that the driving was overhauled. In the first game they tried for realistic driving, but it made for terrible game play. In the new game, the promise that the driving is much more enjoyable, while still keeping a somewhat realistic feel. On top of that, they promise more ways to fight, hack, and go about how you complete a mission. They promise more player freedom in how you play the game.

As much as I don't like Ubisoft, they do make good games sometimes, and they have proven they can learn from their mistakes and improve games. They seem to be stressing the fact that they learned from the mistakes of the last game. I think Watch Dogs 2 will be a good game. What are your thoughts?

The original was overhyped and underdelivered. The original game had some really good idea and if they could fix it's shortcomings it could be a great title

Basically, I hope it's as big of a jump between AssCreed 1 to AssCreed II in terms of quality

I have the minority opinion on the first Watch Dogs. I really loved it, loved Aiden and the story itself, and I've never understood people's problem with driving in video games.

But this one also looks like it'd be pretty cool. I feel like they're turning up the attitude and turning down the touchy feely.

I feel like from everything I've heard about Watch Dogs 2 it'll certainly do better than the original but well enough? Dunno. Don't really care either. Getting a Watch Dogs 2 was all I wanted anyway. :P

I for one enjoyed the first game and I have high hopes for this one. However I've tempered my expectations as to not think that the final product will look anything like this E3 trailer. Having said that though I'm just glad that we are even getting a sequel to this game.

Although the first game was flawed and overall overhyped and under-delivered, I still found enjoyment in it. Although I hope this sequel will fix said flaws and make Watch Dogs the game it should have been.

While the first one wasn't terrible, what it tried to do, it didn't do well. I'm not sure what to think about the new one. I will say the new protagonist looks miles better than Aiden.

@,This is pretty much what I'm hoping. The first AC was kind of underwhelming, but it set the series up, and ACII was way better.

The first Watch Dogs did not live up to its potential, but I still thought it was a really cool game. It taking place in a real city was neat and the hacking abilities were still awesome too. The sequel? Well, if they expand on all of that and improve other aspects like the finicky driving, it could be amazing. The reveal trailer is sorta lame though.

I'm really skeptical about it because the original was an enormous disappointment, but this one actually looks like it'll be better. Apparently they're going to be focusing more on parkour movement and hacking rather than GTA-style driving and shooting which is cool.

Of course it won't, this is a cinematic trailer. This is something that's been bugging me ever since the first Watch_Dogs "scandal." Everyone believes Ubisoft is trying to deceive us into thinking the game will look amazing like the cinematic trailer. It's not supposed to. The gameplay trailer shows the actual game, the cinematic simply announces the game, creates hype and introduces the story.

I was actually referring to the gameplay that was shown during their reveal live stream. I feel like people should expect a graphical downgrade when it comes to the vertical slices that Ubisoft uses to show off their games. However I will say that in my original post I did allude to this trailer but I am aware that this is simply a CG trailer. Sorry for any confusion that might have caused.

Its way too easy to write this game off simply because Ubisoft is the publisher/developer, however I think given the controversy and criticism of the last game they'll be driven to improve upon all aspects of Watchdogs 1. If that turns out to be the case, it could be really good game. Honestly I have some hope that that'll be the case.

Considering the first game didn't really "flop", I think it'll do semi-well. However I can see they are trying to improve upon the first game and I see some points that are good improvements, but it's still not 100% for me, but it's worth a buy at the very least when it goes on sale.

I AM disappointed though that they are releasing like 6 versions again... It's just super anti-consumer and inconvenient. Release a game that is so good that we just want to buy it, don't try to siphon more money out of us by adding extra crap we have to pay for on launch day.

Don't fall for Ubisoft's tactics. It's going to flop, that is for certain. Remember all the hype for the first one, how good they made it look? Yeah, they're doing the same here. Ubisoft's quality has gone downhill as of recent, because they know they can get away with it and profit heavily.

I dunno. I loved the first, but I just fell out of it in favor of GTA V. The only time I had a problem was with driving, but I suck at driving in video games in general.

Also, I kept dying because I never realized when I was playing online or playing story mode. That was a little annoying. I probably won't be able to buy it, but I'd like to see what it can do.

The first game didn't flop though. It didn't even really get "bad" reviews, just a lot of mixed opinions from fans that didn't like how some of the features were not as good as advertised but many people praised the concept.

As you can see from this thread and the opinions here, few people thought the first game was Duke Nukem levels of bad, so a sequel that is going to try and improve upon the first is welcome. While Ubisoft is known for bad things, they HAVE made some good games before, so they are not completely irredeemable.
