Was Diamond Tiara's reformation too forced?

Not only did she NEVER show any personality beyond being a bully before Lost Mark, her reason for being a bully has been cliched for decades. (the "my mother/ parent is mentally abusive" excuse has been around since my childhood AT LEAST......which was 20 years ago. Truth In Television, yes, but these writers know how to think outside the box, so i expected something more imaginative than that.)

20 minutes..yeah can't really make a character that just be played off as a bully character suddnely have more depth. it not liek they PLANNEd this from the start of the show and dropped hints. they had to pick something so I don't see the issue. i mean she was probably jelous of applebloom for having friends maybe. Yeah her mother was a bit of typical "don't socialize with local class" closed minded parent.

The only action that doesn't make sense is them trying out for the equetira games flag thing. Unless her mom made her but still her bullying scootaloo over wings that ONE time..one time mind you not over and over again. I mean it effected her but wasn't abuse.

Redemptions was never this show's strong point, I mean, just look at how bad some of them have been like Trixie's, Sunset's or Starlight's. That said, Diamond Tiara's still probably one of the better ones the show's done, though I think she needs her own Rainbow Rocks, an episode where she tries to own up to her mistakes, still trying to get on the CMC's good side and doing good deeds for them

I was okay with it, because DT isn't some major antagonist in the show. She sorta was for the CMC's but she never threatened the livelihood of Equestria for example. So I am happy with her redemption in the Lost Mark at least, but I hope to see some kind of struggle for one episode at minimum, where she struggles with her past bullying ways. Trying to make friends with those she wronged, struggling hardcore and eventually overcoming it, that is something that would be nice to see.

It might have been a little forced. But at least it wasn't Sunset Shimmer levels of forced.

 

Plus for the time they had allotted to them to pull this off I think they did quite well. I still like listening to the music from that episode, abd the music did so well in pushing the plot forward. If anything it made the episode worth it even if it came off as forced.

 

Plus we have more room to work with Diamond x Applebloom

I wish they scattered numerous hints of Diamond Tiara's changing behaviour over multiple episodes. Like small signs of her doubting her treatment towards CMCs.

Yeah, there's another cartoon that did something similar with a similar cliche character, and that show did it better imo (granted it spread it out across two unrelated episodes instead of trying to do it all in one go). That show did go the "parent blaming" route, but not to the levels of Spoiled RIch. In Spoiled Rich's case they just transfer the hate object, making her ridiculously over the top and 2D, trying to absolve Diamond TIara of literally all blame - Even pinning the "blank flanks" nickname on her.

All reformations in this show these days have come out forced except for Discord.

 

Out of the blue Diamond Tiara's mother is introduced in the same episode she is reformed.

 

There hasn't been any hints of Diamond Tiara's mother as well. No foreshadowing what do ever.

I hope we get some development from Silver Spoon soon, she has the potential to be an interesting character.

I may be in the minority, but I loved Diamond Tiara's redemption. I teared up on these lyrics.

 

There's something jagged in me

And I've made such mistakes

I thought that diamonds were hard

Though I feel I could break

 

The song established that she has wanted to change for quite some time, but didn't know how. The poor thing lost her only friend, and felt trapped by the walls she herself threw up against the rest of the world. I went from hating her for being such a bully, to cheering her on as the CMC gave her the push needed to become "The Pony She Wants To Be". Diamond Tiara learned the same lesson that Ebeneezer Scrooge learned. he too walled himself away to try and avoid being hurt by the world around him. I'm actually glad Diamond Tiara learned the lesson while still young enough to go on and have a family of her own some day.

 

This is now one of my favorite episodes.

Its one of the better redemption stories in my opinion actually, at least within the confines of the show. Would I have preferred some glimmer to this in an earlier episode or two, YES. but it wasn't a deal breaker. There are others in this series that had WAY worse redemptions. Looking at you Sunset and Starlight.

While it was a bit rushed, I actually liked what we got out of it in COTLM.

Even if it does remind me of a lesser version of Pacifica Northwest's character redemption.

Plus it is nowhere near the levels of say Starlight Glimmer's rushed faster than a Little Caesar's pizza character redemption.

Pacifica was a better spoiled brat character than Diamond Tiara by far.
