Do You Want MLP to Address More Serious Issues? Which? How?

I think that these "Serious issues" are something that the parents should be teaching their kids about. You should be doing the parenting not the TV. That's just my 2 cents.

As far as homosexuality goes, I'll paraphrase what I said earlier in the Should Rarity get a boyfriend thread.  The fundamental elements of any relationship are love and friendship.  These ingredients can and should be openly expressed whether the ponies involved are of the same or opposite genders.  Simple tokens of affection like snuggles and hugs are fine too.  Heck, I still like the way Discord had his paws all over his "friend" Fluttershy and that gave shippers plenty of material to let their imagination go wild on.  The kids will get their friendship lessons and older viewers will have just enough innuendo to ponder a slightly more serious bond between ponies.  But seriously, we have enough cartoons that show romance as the end all and be all of existence.  It's actually nice to see young people being happy singles for a change instead of being in an endless and desperate search for love.  smile.png

On the topic of addictions, back in the 1980s, a He-Man episode had an anti-drug story.  A villain tricked someone into taking this "magic" potion for giving her "energy" but she was later told bluntly that the bad guy got her addicted to an ordinary drug.  I don't see MLP:FiM doing this, at least not the same way.

No, no I don't want this at all.

Equestria is the place without complex issues. It's a happy place with pretty ponies, and I like it that way.

This.  Part of what attracted me to the show was the carefree lives of the ponies.  I watch MLP to escape the real world, not to delve further into it.  I read an article recently that said the show wouldn't change because the audience is more mature.  I hope it stays true to how it was originally conceived.

I think the Pinkie Pie sugar addict episode is a good idea as ponyvangelist suggested. She is also a cider-holic lol. Remember when she had like a dozen mugs of cider and poor Dashie didn't get anything. I am sorry this sounds like I am hating on Pinkie Pie. But I do think this could work with her character. I doubt they would do actual drugs or alcohol though. The Apple family almost wound up homeless though but that is a serious as it has gotten unless you read into things and see episodes as symbolism for more serious issues. Like the changelings being terrorists or something. Personally I like it to be light to be an escape if I am having a bad day or something.

As long as it shows a clear distinction between right and wrong, i see no problem in them implementing a Drug or Alcohol based episode. Children these days are much to sheltered from the world, and need to be exposed to these types of topics at a younger age, so that they can now what to do if that situation occurs.

To expand on this, children cant believe that the world is nearly perfect (like equestria is pictured). Complex issues need to be addressed. Hell i wouldent be apposed to an episode that depicts a kidnapping (AppleBloom maybe?)

What do you think?

Drugs?! No, no, no. No alcoholism, no drugs, death, war, or rape or anything like that. This show is for children, and while it may be entertaining for adults, these are not topics for children. First of they do not have the cognitive ability to grasp most of them and second, you can't make shows like this morbid. Things like Fallout of Equestria is fantastic, in fanfiction for older adults where it belongs.

Preteens and older generations are the ones that need these lessons. If I go into a first grade classroom and talk about death and drugs, even if I have a degree as a teacher, you had better believe those parents would be calling and emailing me until the cows come home. If professionals can't teach children about these things, cartoon writers most certainly cannot. It horrifies me to even think of. If we're going to share this show with the kids, we need to be the adults and continue address these larger issues. We have to take their development seriously and realize it is a fragile and complex process that cannot be rushed by pushing things ideas that are too big for them to understand.

Disability is the main one I could see making it into the episode as a main theme.

Disability

-We already know were getting something along the line, but I hope they go for something deep with this.

Such as scootaloo not actually being able to fly. From there the episode can deal with her understanding the situation and realizing it's not the end. I say scoots mainly because a main character dealing with it would be much more impactful especially for a younger audience than say some random new pony.
