Will the MLP film get major backlash from the Brony community?

At the moment I haven't really seen much backlash for it, but time will tell whether the film ends up being a success or a flop with bronies.

Take a look at the 2017 films. Two Lego spin offs, Cars 3, Despicable Me 3, Emojis, The Grinch and Coco. No Ghibli, no WDAS, no Laika. It has more than enough chance to get nominated with this overall shitshow of a year.

Well those are just the bad films. Usually they put it down to five nominees. I think Zootopia, Finding Dory, Moana, Kubo and the Two Strings, and Angry Birds will take those spots.

But those are just my predictions so far and also I haven't seen most of those yet. Again I'm just saying I doubt it will get nominated let alone win.

Those are the 2017 films though, and Zootopia, etc. is 2016...unless I'm missing something, you guys are talking about two different years: this year and next.

I don't know about the rest of the fandom, but I'm not exactly sure what I expect of this. As long as they don't do something stupid and marry Twilight and Flash (*shudder*), and generally just stay as far away from Equestria Girls as possible, I'll be glad.

Yes I'm still salty about Equestria Girls

i feel like they wont do thaat. Only due to one thing

I doubt twilight would go to the human world just to marry flash

And i doubt flash would leave his friends and family in the human world to marry twilight, he's only like. 16.

pony flash basically isn't a thing, unless twilight is shallow and is fine as long as it's flash. but i don't think it would, it's like her first love. Things like that always go boom. xD

Oh yea!!! Opps I'm trippen ahahahaha XD my bad

Then idk.

I still doubt it tho. I feel like mlp is not appealing to the academy. It's barely appealing to any other award shows, but now my hopes are a little higher and by a little higher I mean I didn't think they had any chance but now I'm like it's possible!!!

But you know same feelings as before XD

Yup. I can see this film being praised by the public and getting an Oscar nomination, yet the Brony fandom hating it with a passion.

Again, you are really overstating the success/reception of the series if you think the movie(that we barely know anything about) will get an Oscar. Fans will be happy with it as long as they keep their expectations at a reasonable level

If they do get nominated at all, great, but wait until the damn film comes out before speculating on what awards it could get

Don't forget Secret Life of Pets. It's already getting a pretty positive response. It, Zootopia and Kubo, I think, will be the top contenders.

Already said above that I messed up with years ahaha

mlp movie comes out in 2017 those were 2016 movies. I saw Secret Life of Pets but I doubt it. It didn't feel like anything necessarily special to me. But I still like it of course.

Yeah, I noticed, lol. I didn't realize there were a few posts after that one. So, my bad there, lol.

2017, I don't know what's going to be released then. I haven't looked that far forward yet (as I tend to look pretty far forward, I'm regularly on IMDb). MLP could be a high contender then. But, that depends on what Pixar does. Despite the number of hit and misses the past couple years, they still tend to pop out something Oscar worthy, lol.

I can't see this film being a critical success, but I can see it doing reasonably well at the box office. I hope that the film will be darker and edgier than anything we've seen in the series thus far. I hope we get some cool action sequences like in "Twilight's Kingdom." Of course the film will be rates G, or PG if they decide to go with a darker tone. I'm also hoping that it'll be the series finale, as well as include Starlight Glimmer, the CMC, Silver Spoon, Diamond Tiara, and some of the background ponies, but I guess that's raising my expectations a bit. I just hope to God that the film isn't in CGI.

There'll always be pessimistic "fans" just looking for an excuse to not enjoy the show or movie.

Those are generally what the internet calls trolls.

It is pretty much a given that there will be a bunch of Quibble Pants bronies when the movie comes out. The movie most likely will have a slightly darker tone than the show and it will be doing new things, some people just won't like it likely will not resonate to them like the first two seasons did. So yeah, it will get some heat from some bronies, but not from the entire community.

Nomination is not the same thing as winner. If friggin Shark Tale got nominated in a weak year, so can this.

I can't see this film being a critical success

RT gave that same hated new Ghostbusters a 76%. Any movie can become a critical success if done right.

In my experience, if a film isn't made by Pixar or DreamWorks, it's doomed to fail in terms of critical reception. I see the MLP movie getting at least a 50%, maybe 75%, but it's pushing it if I say that the film will get a 80% or higher on Rotten Tomatoes.

I dunno, the show has been critically well received so I don't know why the movie wouldn't be, if done right of course. I don't expect it to be a critical darling but I wouldn't be surprised if its RT score was at least somewhere in the 70s, which is far from bad.

On the topic of Oscar nominations, I think Best Animated Film would be pushing it. AFAIK, at least 15 animated movies have to be submitted to the Academy in order for the category to get five nominations, otherwise it just gets three. Best case in point here is probably 2010, where only Toy Story 3, How To Train Your Dragon and The Illusionist got in. This was the same year we had Despicable Me and Tangled, and I think had there been more submissions that year, they could've easily got the last two spots. So MLP would have to go up against at least 14 other films just to stand a chance of getting into the final five, and while it obviously depends on the quality of its competition, I don't see it happening. Getting nominated for musical score and/or Best Original Song sound very plausible though; if the Lego and South Park movies can get nominated in the latter then I'd say it's very possible.

True that. The best part about the South Park movie was the songs. Just as long as this film isn't in CGI, I'll be content. And it wouldn't be the first time this show has been nominated for Best Original Score and/or Best Original Song.

That's why the Lego Movie, Despicable Me, Peanuts, Cloudy w/ a Chance, Coraline, Fantastic Mr. Fox, etc. got such terrible reviews, right?

No matter what they do, it's not going to make everyone happy. There will be hate, but there will probably be just as many people who embrace it (assuming it isn't complete crap)

I haven't seen any of those films. It just seems that Pixar and DreamWorks (and recently, Disney thanks to John Lasseter) get the most attention.

Well, Disney/Pixar definitely make good movies from what I saw, so it makes sense that people give them praise.

Now with the MLP movie, of course they can't make everyone happy, and there's no telling if the movie is gonna receive proper negative reviews from critics, sites, etc instead of just haters. But I personally believe that the movie is gonna do well.

There are enough kids who watch the show that the movie probably won't do poorly. I'm willing to bet that the majority of people who identify as "bronies" when the movie comes out will go and see it. Lastly, you will have the occasional adult who watched the G1 cartoons and bought the original toys, so some of them might see it for nostalgia's sake.

Will it do as well as the modern Transformers films? I doubt it. But Hasbro has attracted some very successful voice actors/actresses to the film, which shows to me that they really want it to do well. This isn't some cop-out attempt at a movie solely to sell toys. Though the toy sales ultimately do decide the fate of the franchise, Hasbro has learned to entertain rather than simply advertise.

As long as Hasbro really puts in effort, the brony community will at least respect the movie. This isn't just a spinoff like Equestria Girls. This is the real deal.

According to the status of this fanbase, i will say that Hasbro/THX should be careful with ANY decision, ANY direction they want with the show. Every "mishap" will be cause an uproar in the fandom.
