It's time to duel!  RP Link

 

 

All right, so this is the OOC for Yu-Gi-Oh! Equestrian Games.

 

For those of you who don't know about the card game, Yu-Gi-Oh! is a card game where you take a deck of powerful monsters, spells, and traps, and battle other people, just for fun, and in this case, glory.  The games has crossed dimensions in this RP, and everypony now is able to play the game with their own decks.

 

Standard roleplaying rules apply, as well as the anime Yu-Gi-Oh! rules.  Here's the rundown of the Yu-Gi-Oh rules:

 

At the start of each duel, each player is granted 4000 Life Points.  They each start with five cards in their hands, or hooves, and draw one card in every draw phase.

 

Draw Phase:

 

You draw a card from the top of your deck, and that's it.

 

Main Phase 1:

 

This phase is where you set or activate spell cards, as well as summon monsters.  You can only "Normal Summon" monsters whose levels are 1-4, and tribute monsters to normal or Special summon 5-12 level monsters.  You're able to have a maximum of 5 monsters on your side of the field, as well as a maximum of 5 spell or trap cards on your side.

 

Battle Phase:

 

You conduct Battle Phases only when the player who started the duel ends their turn.  You can only attack with Face-up Attack position monsters, and monsters, unless you have the right spell cards, can only attack once.  If there are no monsters on the opponent's side of the field, they, unless they have trap cards, will take damage equal to the attack points. (So if you're on the receiving end of Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon's attack with full LP and no monsters or traps, then game over.)  If there are monsters on the opponent's side, then you take damage equal to the difference of both monsters' attack points, unless the other monster is in Defense Mode, in which case you do not take battle damage.  If a monster is destroyed, then it gets sent to the graveyard.  Sometimes, there are spell cards that can inflict Piercing Battle Damage to the opponent if your monster attacks.  If you use that spell card, you can do so.

 

Main Phase 2:

 

Usually, this phase is where you set trap cards to try and defend your life points, but you can activate spell cards here, too.

 

End Phase:

 

This phase is where you say, "I end my turn." and your opponent takes their turn afterwards, starting with their Draw Phase.

 

Yu-Gi-Oh! characters make an appearance here, and all decks from each series, from the original to Zexal, are in.  (I don't count Arc-V because Pendulum Summoning is as OP as it gets.   )

 

Your OCs can be in, and I recommend making decks that match your character's traits.  For instance, Copper, being a powerful pony, uses a powerful Blue Eyes deck..

 

Characters play with Duel Disks, or devices used to to bring your monsters or spell cards to life.

Other Rules:

 

There will be a banlist of cards to avoid dick moves, that include Raigeki, and the five pieces of Exoida.  And these duels will be online, using YGPpro Devpro, since it's the easiest to duel in.  I recommend saving replays to memorize the cards you used.

Quite ambitious. Through I think anyone w/ knowledge of the catalog will probably be OP in this case.  Have traps in play? Summon Jinzo. Have a full set of face down magics & a field spell? Heavy Storm. Have 3 Blue Eyes, One blue eyes ultimate & one blue eyes shining? Raigeki. Or better yet. We start the duel. I draw the 5 pieces of Exodia.

 

Not to bring you down, but this sounds like a tricky game to run in this RP format.

Maybe.  But I'm going to make sure everyone has fair play when it comes to that.  So What I'm going to do next is ban cards.

Alright. You introduce the ban list. That's still not gonna stop someone form typing in the exact cards they need, rather than going by random chance.   

 

My advice is to have the duels be done with one of the online games, limiting players to the cards available in that game.

That and I'd imagine it'd be more engaging to play the actual game than to just pick and choose our favorites and post the perfect counter to an opponents move. Now, all we need to do is find a free to play version of the game and we'll be set.

Google "YGOpro Devpro".  That's the best free-to-play software I know of that's also the easiest to use.

(being a Yu-gi-oh player myself) This actually sounds like a cool idea. If everyone role playing is accustomed to (or learns to use) dev pro, I don't see why we can't have a story line/ interaction here, and then duel in the program to determine the outcome of the match.

Not too long ago, I joined a Discord chat where you can get help with building a deck.  I'll leave a link to it if any of you are interested, but I will tell you that it'll be hard to duel with the program that they use.  It's not as easy as Devpro is.
