CastletonSnob 3,081 October 26, 2016 Share October 26, 2016 What if the show did an episode where, after a comment by another character, one of the Mane Six or the CMC starves themselves and exercises a lot. This sort of episode has been done before, so maybe MLP could do it.
cmarston1 5,962 October 26, 2016 Share October 26, 2016 The concept of anorexia is way too mature for something like FIM to ever tackle. We are talking about a show that couldn't even kill off a tortoise.
PiratePony 8,486 October 26, 2016 Share October 26, 2016 Yeah, that's more for like teen drama ala Saved By The Bell, not a kid's show. 2 Courtesy of @Sparklefan1234
Golden Star 149 October 26, 2016 Share October 26, 2016 Yeah, that's more for like teen drama ala Saved By The Bell, not a kid's show. It's not like a kid's show can't do this subject as Doug covered it in one episode, but I would have to agree that it doesn't sound like something MLP could handle that well. PoisonClaw 8,172 October 26, 2016 Share October 26, 2016 Yeah, that sounds a bit too extreme and mature for a kid's show like MLP to even attempt. They could do something lighter, like someone exercising too much to look pretty or going on a diet, but outright starving themselves and developing an eating disorder is too much. 2 MLPForums "Self-Proclaimed" Kamen Rider NutNow, count up your sins!I do Traditional commissions, by the way! Concerned Bystander 2,904 October 26, 2016 Share October 26, 2016 Given the very small number of puppets used to animate the cartoon, and the resulting (almost) universal appearance of the ponies, trying to force body image issues into the narrative would be a terrible idea. It would be very difficult after six years to suddenly make size or weight an issue without it looking dreadfully forced.
Cirrus. 1,093 October 26, 2016 Share October 26, 2016 (edited) Too late. Starving ponies have already been shown in the show. Edited October 26, 2016 by Cirrus. Rainbow Rocks... at least how it could've looked... in a stranger, more interesting dimension For those who are wondering, Twilight is chewing bubble gum. stripper 252 October 26, 2016 Share October 26, 2016 It's simply too depressing of a topic. What would the moral be? Only eat and exercise the amounts you need to? SpectraDust 149 October 26, 2016 Share October 26, 2016 I think it could be very lightly touched. But it's quite a heavy and depressing topic for a children's show.
ponykittylonelygirl 73 October 26, 2016 Share October 26, 2016 I think it could only really be touched in a 'don't change yourself to make others happy' kind of arc, which I feel they've already done in different ways before. It's just too complex for the characters and audience to cope with in a 25 minute cartoon and would completely alter the mood of the show.
honk friend 1,978 October 26, 2016 Share October 26, 2016 This thread gave me terminal cancer Every time I see a thread that suggests a topic for an episode, it's something edgy or mature. THIS SHOW IS FOR CHILDREN
GrimGrimoire 4,973 October 26, 2016 Share October 26, 2016 Rainbow Dash: "WOW RARITY! YOU SURE ARE GETTING FAT!!!" And the stage is set for a nation of children becoming mortified. Actually the children probably would not be all that bothered by it. But it is just one of those topics I don't think they could cover that would go over very well. I know they have touched upon mature before, and I am all for it in doses, but in this case I just can't see them doing it well. 2 ~No profound statement needed~
