I'd kinda like a game that explores motherhood, or at least a game where you're in charge of a family in medieval something or other and you must get them to safety.  It'd be like a big escort quest, except you won't want to strangle your kids for needing a leash or walking into a mob of soldiers or what-have-you, as you may have some who will be quite helpful to you.

I can name at least one game like that. This War of Mine. You're not a mother specifically but you ARE trying to keep your family alive in a dire situation with very limited means.

Well the Nintendo switch actually came from a console that almost went into production called the gameboy switch. It was originally going to be released in 2002 but after several working prototypes where manufactured Nintendo feared that people would see it as a combination of the gameboy and the super NES and because of this it would make Nintendo go bankrupt. Like it did with the email phone from the early 2000s. So in the end the entire project was scrapped and forgotten about. But one of the employees mentioned it on Facebook in 2005. And then people started commenting that Nintendo should of gone ahead with the gameboy switch and it would of been more profitable and successful than any other Nintendo console. So then finally recently they decided to relaunch the project as the Nintendo switch.

And trust me the Nintendo switch would of never existed if it wasn't for the gameboy switch!!! :)

@@Discordian,

Pretty much.  Something with complex main characters and a story that reflects life during a medieval war from the viewpoint of a struggling parent who just wants to ensure their family's well-being.  I said mother in my previous post because while the differences between fatherhood and motherhood are blurring today, it certainly wasn't the case centuries before.  What would one do if you take a traditional family, put them in a dangerous situation, and send off/kill off/otherwise do away with the traditional breadwinner?  Where does that leave the person who had been taught all their life that their duty is to the home?

I think this video explains it better than i'd do:

This is the combat overview for We Shall Wake, by Nokoriware, a game that may or may not be completed and released someday, we don't know it yet.

I can imagine something like this becoming a blend of an arena fighter and an MMO: the character is created and customized by the player and said player can create various characters with different weak and strong points, your team is thrown in the arena along with some generic enemies and the enemy team, whoever wins a set number of rounds by defeating everyone in the enemy team or accomplishing some kind of objective, wins.

I guess it'd be like an old-school FPS team deathmatch, except it's all melee combat and you're going at the speed of light.

@@Light of Night,

No but if, I don't know the local drunk or something, found out her husband was away from home and came there. You'd have to play a stealth section or something to avoid him. Which could be a tutorial for when the enemy soldiers the husband was sent to fight come in and burn the town and come looking for the player character's home on the outskirts. Now there's more of them and these aren't just one sloppy drunk but adrenaline pumped raiders armed to the teeth! With you . . . a defenseless woman with a crying child.

Noooooow get what I'm saying?

@@Steel Accord,

It doesn't necessarily have to turn into a tragic action game though, does it? It could simply be a lifesim management game as well. The mechanics and UI you would build into the game would be very important. There'd most likely need to be dialog choices, some kind of interface for cooking, and some light "action" gameplay for events like a child going missing and having to search for them and whatnot.

No it doesn't have to but if Akari was talking about the hardships of specifically medieval homemakers then husbands being away leading to rape and predation WAS a serious hardship and reality for them.

True but putting in a stealth mechanic for one event in a game could potentially be a waste of resources. A lot of developers would decide it would be a constant or randomly occurring event or have to change the story of the game to make it so you have to use the stealth mechanics more than once or twice which could lead away from the "mother living life during medieval times" thing into something else entirely.

I mean, it could happen. There's plenty of games that make a mechanic that's used only for a single for or the very end of the game, but depending on the developer and the quality of the game it could also be considered a waste of time to do anything more than have it be a cutscene.

Dude the "stealth mechanic/section" was a mere example to suggest the greater context of being in danger it was not meant to be that specific.

You know what would be cool? A strategy fighting game! Imagine if you played the game kind of like Civilization with resource management and the like. But rather than engaging the other civs in turn based combat, you chose from a roster of champions/representatives and the winner wins that engagement and whatever resource or outcome was being fought over? The more you advance and the more resources you have, the more available characters and upgrades for them you unlock.

Fighting game mechanics in general should be used in other genres. A side scrolling action game with fighting mechanics is a dream come true.
