Why do some think the fandom will survive with G5 MLP?

Especially when they're the cheddar ones.

So buttery and cheesy, yet so very very crunchy T_T

psh- cheddar? Nope. Sour Cream and Onion over here. <3

This doesn't make sense. After G4 ends it will be at least three years before G5. By that time the fandom would have already died naturally. But G5 doesn't guarantee a revival.

Three years is nothing.  Sixteen years passed between Return of the Jedi and The Phantom Menace, and Star Wars fans were enthusiastic and active throughout that entire time.  If the fans are passionate enough about the franchise, they won't have a problem with a three year wait for the next installment.  A few will drop off the MLP wagon for sure, that's only natural, others will wait it out to see what G5 will be like.

There is no guarantee that G5 will be able to capture lightning in a bottle like G4 did, but the marketing suits at Hasbro are not stupid, you can bet they will be taking a long time discussing what made G4 so successful, they'll be looking at forums like this, watching videos on youtube etc. and they will apply those lessons to G5 to try and recreate something of the spirit of G4 that made it so successful outside of the original target audience.  For example, I would expect to see more merchandise aimed right across the age groupings from launch, the sort of things (outside of fan made) that have only been put to market comparatively recently for G4.

If they get it wrong, they'll probably still have a perfectly marketable property to aim at young girls, but if they get it right, G5 might conceivably be even better than G4.  We can only wait and see what they do.

If this were true, then there would be no Star Trek fandom, no Star Wars fandom, and no Dr. Who fandom. All of those have ended, or gone to new generations. AND THEY ARE STILL AROUND. fandoms don't die so easily! I just got into this fandom and get annoyed at people saying its dying. I don't think it is. I know that right now, this fandom is on an upward trend, now a downward one. Peaks and valleys, but right now its upward

Yeah but there are at least four more Star Wars movies planned. And Star Wars isn't suddenly going to have a drastic redesign. It will still be Star Wars. Mlp on the other hand has changed. With every incarnation. There are similarities of course. But for the most part there very different. And yet like how different G4 was from G3 G5 will be just as different from G4.

Yes but Star Wars had comics, books, some nor is tv specials. FiM won't. Listen there's only so long after the show ends that they'll continue the comic book series. They'll want to make room from the New generation.

Keep in mind most people aren't fans of mlp. There fans of FiM. G4 is what made bronies a thing. Not mlp in general. There's no guarantee G5 will be anything like G4. It could be anything. And it might be bad.

Good luck trying to make people understand . Many can't even understand that G5 WON'T be a FiM sequel . Still, while I don't think G5 will attempt to be a FiM's second coming, I think they'll at least make a family show and not a target demographic-only like in G3 considering the success comparison :dash:.

I expect radical bronies speaking shit towards G5 regardless

Plus there is about an 80-90% chance that generation 5 will be pretty much a generation 4.5.  Hasbro doesn't walk away from cash cows.

Except that won't be G5, but a G4 with a slight change of art-style :dash:. I'm pretty sure it'll come before G5, considering the far less successful G3 had one, why not this massively successful generation?

Hi, as this thead is more about the general fandom and a hypothetical future series than the current show, it has been moved to Sugarcube Corner.

How many years was it between the 7th Harry Potter film and Fantastic Beasts? How long between Star Wars films? Star Trek series? How long has it been since Firefly went off the air? And it hasn't had the promise of a return to buoy it.

Fandoms persevere through dry spells, and I think the wild runaway success of this generation will encourage Hasbro to be careful when working on the next generation. Lack of new content to talk about may slow down a fandom, but it will never kill it.

What logic are you basing this off of, OP? There's flourishing fandoms for shows that have ended years, even decades ago. It's a fact that fans and content creators alone can keep it going. Three years is NOTHING in terms of fandoms.

fim has comics and books. :v

but seeing how strong this fandom is, i doubt it will die in the three years it takes to get us g5, it might even boost the fandom. :P you never really know.

most shows or movies can take more then three years to get a new series/movie. but their fandom is still strong.

It will survive even if the current series were to be cancelled and a new one were to be made, and even if this hypothetical new series were to turn out to not be as good or even downright awful, because fandoms don't just die off that easily, especially ones that have so much content to work with and are rather large. If it turns out that a new show is made and it sucks I'm sure FiM will still have a fandom. Other fandoms have survived disappointing followups to their favourite shows, films, videogames or other such media, so I fail to see how FiM will fare too differently.

The fandom would not just die out after the show. If that were true there would be no activity here amd it would have died off long before. I do not know what iy it will be like if there is a G5, but I don't like to speculate early, since this one isn't even done yet.

Yes but we have season seven and a movie on the way. It's different then when the fandom will end.

I suppose. But this fandom is sort of unstable. Cloppers, jerks, not to mention all the anti bronies. Those things alone could destroy the fandom.

Oi, you throwing me under the bus? #triggered

I'm not insulting cloppers. There just very devise in the fandom. Though personally I don't have a problem with clopper artwork. Some of it is extremely creative. Also there have been some incredibly evil anti bronies. People who have gone on suicide prevention forums and told everyone there to kill themselves. :(

don't cloppers make up a very small percent of the fandom? I doubt clop would destroy the fandom anyway. it isn't really harming anypony imo.

I mean most fandoms have clop like material, but that never killed them...

I know. It's just that some people hate it. And others use it as a reason to attack the fandom.
