Does anyone think the show got a LOT more clever this season?

I would agree that it is a tad early, but it's been a great start thus far. Whereas the beginning of S6 was fine, but flat, S7's first two episodes had plenty of memorable and quality content to think on; including quite possibly Starlight's best bit of characterization in the entire series with an important moral that even adults tend to struggle with.

Amazing stuff. :)

...no? I don't really see why you think that. These didn't feel like Marvel to me at all. Nothing even happened in the first one, and the second one was really far from what I'd call clever. Marvel also tends to explain a lot of their stuff at least a little, whereas both of these episodes just introduced new magical junk without telling us what was going on. Of course, I'm apparently the one guy who rather liked season 6, so even if it had gotten more clever, I would hardly consider this a new development.

I'm going to have to be another "to early to tell" vote. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed both episodes ... but I'm not counting my eggs before they are dyed.

It's definitely got to do with these 2 writers Joanna Lewis and Kristine Songco, I think they did 1 or 2 episoes in the past, I forgot which ones they were but I remember them having the same whitty yet funny style.

It's only been two episodes so far, so it is really way too soon to say.

The two episodes were enjoyable, especially Celestial Advice which was an episode the show really needed, I don't think they showcase what you are suggesting.

Too early to make that judgement. Celestial Advice was a very good episode that kept surprising me, but while All Bottled-Up was good it had some moments that didn't feel very clever in hindsight.

Those episodes are great but they are not the showcase of cleverness, i called them maturity.

About cleverness, the show had show it in their very first season anyway.

Definately better than S6 premiere.

Hey, I thought S6 was great, too. =)

As for the topic at hand, yeah - it's too early to tell. I liked both of these episodes, but the real test will be this Saturday with the little pink unholy terror causing mischief for Twilight and Spike. I can see this premise going very, very, wrong in so many ways, but maybe the episode will surprise me?

Yeah, it's a really simple premise with a lot of room for cheap gags, but I'm kinda looking forward to it if only because it gives Twilight Sparkle a role other than "teacher" and "princess." It's likely that reacting to Flurry won't bring out some of her old self, but I'm latching on to any chance that she'll be interesting for an entire focus episode at this point, no matter how slim.

I wouldn't mind it.  Borrowing the type of humor that's appreciated in Looney Tunes, Animaniacs, Tiny Toons, It would work fine for My Little Pony. Though I think a certain Pink Party Pony would be perfect as a Bugs Bunny Expy, and a certain Apprentice of Booksmart Horse, and a Great and Powerful Wizard would be a perfect Ren and Stimpy duo.
