Thoughts on My Little Dashie?

There have been a few variations written on this, assuming you're referring to the one by ROBCakeran53.  I rather liked it, although I thought the main character's reaction to meeting Celestia and wanting to punch her was... odd.

I agree. My reaction to the part where he wanted to punch Rarity felt odd and maybe even forced. I'm referring to the text version, but have seen the mini-movie WAY more than the written version.

Thank you! That's what I was feeling from it - it felt forced. That aside, making a fanfiction about R.Dash growing up in a very human world was nice, and thought-out.

I feel the same. The part where the guy (sorry, I don't know his name or forgot) told Celestia that they were from a fictional cartoon about horses for little girls also felt forced and stood out to me for being a sudden dick-ish move, but other than that it was interesting. Just a few moments near the end.

I think what you're hinting it is that the main character found R.Dash, supposedly from a cartoon but even the guy realizes she's real - she's no cartoon, she's in front of him. For someone to then tell others that they are merely cartoon characters denies his previous realization mentioned. I think it might have worked out better with him thinking about how the real world and how (possibly) Equestria might even be connected somehow. After all, Rainbow Dash is from that world, and is now on Earth.

You're right as he knows its there, but says they are just cartoon characters. He had a bond with Rainbow Dash and lived with her for around 12 years was it? It's feels insaulting that after all that he still says that there just fictional charactors. Which I found stupid of him to say.

Exactly. How can someone still say 'you're a cartoon character' after being with her for 12 years? The main character should come to the realization that Equestria is real. Otherwise, when Celestia and the others come for R.Dash, he might think he's having a dream or something. No, he realizes they're real, R.Dash is real and therefore, Equestria is real - not fictional characters even if MLP is a cartoon on Earth.

Not too fond of the ending.

Sure, the guy's willing to try to move forward despite no longer having RD in his life... but without her to curb his depression anymore, he still has a good chance of relapsing into suicidality sooner or later.

the ending is the only real flaw I have. There could have been at least SOME way to communicate with Dashie, ether it be through a portal that Twilight would have made, or other means. Sure there is a sequel, but it mainly focuses on Dashie becoming her old self before the whole thing happened. I end up feeling bad for the guy (sorry once again, don't remember his name) and I wish the creator of the sequel of the story would foucus at least a little on the aftermath in the real world after this all happened.

If he thought that he was in a dream, he would have realised this this was real due to the fact that commonly when you sleep in a dream, you wake up. He should have realised this when it started, yet he says it's real. It's as if he changes his thoughts on the matter which is annoying to say the least.

Meh. It's a fanfic, don't really expect anything spectacular.

it was better than expected, but it still has its flaws

It’s a dumb and emotionally manipulative piece of shit

I have a week spot for this fanfic, but when you look at it, it does have those typical things that fanfics have, but it's still good.As for cupcakes, that's just a torture porn of Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie.

I'm surprised more people here aren't trashing it. It has always seemed to me that My Little Dashie is the Twilight (book/movie series) of the fandom, loved by many but despised equally as much. Very little middle ground.

Yeah, it has its flaws. Like I have always thought the ending is too abrupt. And the relationship between the two worlds, Earth and Equestria, is not well-explored. It's even contradictory at times, because the narrator somehow still seems to think it is fake even though he quite literally has a cartoon pony by his side most of the time. But from an emotional standpoint it is an engaging read and one of the best fics I have ever read. And the somewhat condensed movie version on YouTube is also great.

My Little Dashie is still not my absolute favorite pony fanfic, though. I think I prefer the other polarizing fic Past Sins, which is also emotional but criticized for different reasons.

What are your thoughts on the fanfic My Little Dashie?

Hi as this particular board is dedicated to the show, I have taken the liberty of moving this thread to the appropriate section.

The fic has not aged well in my opinion. Many of the (at the time) groundbreaking ideas in MLD that garnered the fic praise back when it was first written have been so run into the ground and overdone today that people don't like it as much as they used to. At least that is what I think, I don't exactly have a case study or testimonials from anyone to back me up on that.

Displacement fics are just as looked down upon now as HiE fics, Needless wish fulfillment trite. We would all love to be in the physical presence of (insert favorite character here) and that is the fantasy MLD presents.

There is one little tidbit about the fic now though. It says in the fic that MLP ran for 8 seasons... and if MLP ends after season 8 (which I personally hope it doesn't) but if it does... then the writer successfully predicted the future... That's worth something right? I think it is... even if it was just a lucky guess.

It shouldn't change a thing. The only difference is that you go to a different section, Sugarcube Corner, to find the thread.

I'm not to sure how well it aged as I got back into the fandom after almost a year. I do feel like this fanfic (like many others out there) are made to fulfill the creator's or person's fantasy.
