Ragnarok was a demon that was melted down in a concoction called "Black blood" made by the Witch Medusa, Crona's mother. Afterward, Medusa replaced her kids blood with the Black Blood that Ragnarok was inside, and now they pseudo share a body. Everyone would have had a front row seat to Ragnarok bursting out of Crona and solidifying into his form you see there. He also can take the form of a sword that Crona can wield.
