Why did they redesign Button Mash?

Seriously, the new design looks really dumb to me.  It doesn't seem to pop like the darker coat color did. 

 

In fact, I think this picture seems to sum up the issue better than I could explain it.

Jeez, you act like someone gave you a Sprite when you wanted Sierra Mist. Calm down. It's just a slight color change.

It may have been a copyright issue like what the guy above said.

From what I've understood, there was a fan animation series based on Button Mash, which was deleted from YouTube (by Hasbro's request). But I don't get it. If I'm not mistaken, the original version of the character appeared in MLP before any fan content was created. If this is the case, I can't see why there would be legal problems with the inclusion of the character. Maybe they just didn't want people to associate the character with the fan content (some of which I've heard had questionable material). But it's not like that isn't the case with several other characters...

there was actually a legal issue involving the character. There was a video game made by a developer that got shut down due to a cease and desist order from hasbro, so i think the design was slightly altered to put some distance between the developer.

But like wiiguy said, its not anything work making something out of nothing.

Other than the coloring there is no difference. They've changed ponies before, and I didn't notice this at all.

I actually never even noticed that change until I saw this thread. My guess is that the change was made to distance the character from certain fan content. Anyways, it's such a minor change, so I'm not going to lose sleep over it.

I completely forgot his coat color was a darker brown, oops.

But as a previous poster said, it coulda been a copyright thing idfk.
