I think it's because of the fact that people post so much that it would be easy to get too many posts too quickly making it easy for trolls to get into things like debate pit or life advice.

It'd be tragic for the forums.

This, more or less. Also, in the past we had problems with users copying and pasting replies to new users in the Welcome Plaza. It can artificially inflate activity.

True that. Moreover, the current arrangement dissuades users from spamming posts (like Venomous mentioned) just to raise their rank.

That's a good thing that makes that value more balanced.

Forum games etc. are really spammy and the effort required to make posts there is minimal, bordering with zero (counting game, for example - just posting a number over and over again). If these posts would count, it would encourage members to keep spamming as much as possible, just to farm that post count, instead of playing the game for fun. That would be extremely unfair to users, who actually put effort into their content in other areas.

Quality over quantity - that's what it is for.  

 

Speaking of balancing, personally I think, that brohooves also should be disabled in these sections, as forum games require only 2 users to effectively farm the reputation, by constantly replying in a simple game one after another.

Fun Fact ... posts in Forum Games are counted ... just not as content that unlocks access to restricted areas of MLPF and Rank progression. 

Leaderboard of all posts including Forum Games/Fan Clubs/Lounge etc.

well, an example would be if somepony kept playing the counting games, they could easily get over 1,000 posts

Forum games don't count as they are usually low effort, casual posts. It would be really easy to rack up posts by just only using the forum games and such.

According to the leaderboards, if ALL posts count, I wouldn't had my 2k+ posts but 60k+ posts, so yeah, good that not every post counts, otherwise I'm unstoppable
