Rainbow Rocks or My Little Pony The Movie?

I deteste Rainbow Rocks, and what's worse is that I got mah da to watch it with me and my wee sister.

Rainbow Rocks.

The MLP movie had far superior animation, design and cast as well as darker tones, a broader depth of locations and sense of adventure. But that's all it had going. 

In terms of story and characters, it is not up to par with Rainbow Rocks or any of the other movies that came after. It even feels weak compared to quite a few episodes. The behaviors and dialogue of the characters are cringey at times, development and time in the spotlight are uneven, the majority of villains are generic tropes, and there are a couple of lore and plot holes in the story. And aside from one song, most of the soundtrack is rather generic as well. And they maybe just me, but all in all, it didn't really feel like an MLP movie. More like a fantasy adventure film, with ponies thrown in it. 

 

Rainbow Rocks on the other hoof had a better musical core, overall more interesting villains, better character development and use of screen-time, a better paced story, less cringe, and overall it felt more like an MLP movie than MLP the movie did. To use a sports term, I was marking out during EQG. It was so good I went and saw it twice.

MLP the movie is better the animation was awesome. The new characters were intriguing and the story line was pretty cool. The soundtrack was pretty good to

I personally really loved Rainbow Rocks. The Dazzlings were awesome villains and the outfits in RR were just amazing. The MLP movie was good, but for me RR just beats it.

For me, Rainbow Rocks is the best they could do as a sequel to a bad first movie. It has lots of good elements, but for me, story doesn’t flow naturally. It was still enjoyable.

MLP The Moive is definitely not the best they could make, and lots of mediocrity, disappointing character screentime, but as a whole, I was on the ride through the whole journey. It felt like a more well rounded movie.

So roughly speaking,  Rainbow Rocks was like Justice League, MLP The Movie was like Captain America : The First Avenger.
