@Denim&Venom

Would Miko have a criminal record?

his back story and to keep an eye on the school. Also since he's a mage as well.

As are multiple people in the magical community I imagine.

@Arid_Blitz @Duality

I actually had a few ideas regarding Miko's past with the school and world building I'd like to run by you before I toss it into the RP. Don't want to have to redact anything.

Well first, there any issue with her being Salem alumni?

A past student? None whatsoever. Duality is old enough that her being an alumnus would cause continuity contradictions with the age of the school, but Miko is merely a youngling yet. :mlp_proud:

Okay cool. Secondly, how many teachers & staff would you say are still around? Cause all of them will probably have some kind of beef with Miko.

I don't doubt that the teachers and staff that weren't around when she was a student would have beef with her too, but I imagine a fair few, assuming a decade or so between the end of her studies and the beginning of her full employment as teacher. Definitely Duality and Arid's staff characters (Principal Lilith and the magic-nullifier chap), maybe Ghalan (although I don't know how long he's been employed at the University), and a handful of NPCs to round things out. The sort of skills that get you employed at the University don't lend themselves easily to many other job opportunities, except occasionally in highly specialised magic-user roles, so the staff who haven't retired are most likely still employed.

That transitions nicely into my next idea of world building. I imagine that contrary to popular belief, it is actually harder to find work as one of the enchanted then as one of the normies. Yeah, powers would have their niches. But most places wouldn't want to risk hiring an enchanted for the damage they could do, even if they are trained and certified. One incident and it's law suits galore and insurance rates going up. Pyro, Hydro and Geomancers make great fire fighters, sailors and geologists. But not very good doctors, astronauts or football players. Yeah, it's illegal to discriminate against them for hiring practices. But at the same time I imagine for saftey reasons, most companies have the right to inquire whether someone has magic powers and whether or not they're trained in them.

Yep, that seems realistic. Tangible additions to risk make them even less broadly desirable than most minorities when it comes to hiring.

And that partially ties into Miko's backstory and by extension Mindy's. Miko never wanted to be teacher. She hates teachers. See's them as either glorified baby sitters or wanna be dictators. She always wanted to be a martial artist. Began training at the age of four to become the next Bruce Lee, Connor McGregor, or Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat.

But I imagine as with jobs, most sanctioned sports have barred the enchanted from competing in their ranks. Women can't fight men. A superheavyweight can't fight an atomweight. A pelijae can't fight a human. And someone with magic powers can't fight someone without them.

That also seems quite accurate. I doubt any form of suppressor could distinguish between physical strength gained from magic and physical strength gained without, so fair fights would be impossible.

Right, so learning this, Miko would be rightly pissed off that her dreams are shattered. She probably see's little use in magic school since her job prospects are gonna be lousy regardless of whether she masters her powers or not. Further compounded by the fact that Salem at that point probably still functioned on the industrial model of schooling. Which ironically, is great in prepping for the workforce, but not so much in anything else.

So during this tumultuous time of adolescent angst, rebellion and broken dreams, that Miko was more than a handfull for most teachers, being disruptive, argumentative, belligerent and combative, seeing little to no reason to respect the authority of anyone in that school. Made even worse when the staff slowly learn that Miko is much much smarter than she lets on.

I'd imagine that they'd have to develop sports catered towards magic. Although the power discrepancy would  make standardizing any kind of sport rather difficult.

Problem with that is it's been stated there aren't that many magic users, and even less that would wanna do sports.

What'd we have it at? One in a million are enchanted? So fewer than 8000? Only a fraction would want to do any sport, and a fraction of that fraction would want to do a specific sport.
