Bat ponies

So, we got earth ponies, pegasi, unicorns, and alicorns, being the most well known pony races, and such status quo was preserved for years. However, we've been later introduced to breezies, and later last year to hippogriffs/sea ponies, and later this season:

The Kirin, part pony/ part dragon, which look WAY closer to regular ponies, surprisingly.

We are having those relatives of ponies, but the bats have been mostly ignored, both by the fans, and the writers, despite first appearing way back in S2, and only appearing once since in S5 finale in the show (as a counterargument to the expected argument to Dash's presence, just compare her ears to the other guards). The best they've received was Luna's guards small role in her own chapterbook. With the series likely ending after next season, it should be time for at least one bat appear and have a speaking role, that'll be the least they could do

I'm honestly dissapointed that they haven't used bat ponies either. I think they've missed a huge opportunity here. But, they still have time.

Hopefully, I only need one to properly introduce the race. Hope they salvage that idea in the 200th episode, as they were originally intended to appear in the 100th; or a new bat student, I don't care. Just one bat, one bat, that's all I'm asking

Ehhhhh........... I'm not all that disappointed, honestly I think Bat Ponies are kinda too edgy for they're own good, edgy bat pone OC's didn't help with my own opinion of them. Not that they shouldn't get they're own little spotlight, butttttttt I wouldn't be all that disappointed if they never did, we already got a bunch of new species and such added into this season, I'm not sure how many more we would be able to cram into this season or next season, considering that next season is the last season of FIM.

The ting is, bat ponies haven't been ignored by the fandom. Probably by the show for the most part, but I've seen many bat pony OC's in my time in the fandom. I do agree with you that bat ponies need to be shown a lot more, maybe just because they are absolutely adorable.

Um... no. That is not the case at all. I can find many other reasons why bat ponies exist other than for porn. Like how adorable they can be for OC's.

Well not as much as ignored by the fandom, it's just that I have a feeling most forgot they are indeed canon

You'd be lucky if you find edgy bats art in this fandom

Besides, you know what's more edgy in concept than bat poneh? Dragon poneh . Who have a long eastern dragon horn, a couple of clays in their hooves, long tails with hair at the very end, scales on their backs and frong; but otherwise are as edgy and frightening as your regular poneh

I think the thing is with bat ponies is that they are canon but with other original specifies like moth ponies or snake ponies people get bat ponies confused with those kind of species.

I've heard years ago that bats where fandom creations before Luna's guards appeared in S2 . Anyway, many other fandom things became canon, bats are so, but lack proper canon exposure

Huh... you might actually be right on that. But I think one of the first bat ponies were lunar guards. I'm taking a look from the "bat pony" tag on derpibooru and some of the earliest images are lunar guard bat ponies thought there is one from 6-7 years ago that is a bat pony OC.

Yeah, that was just word of mouth. I can't confirm if it's true that bats started as fanon because I've became a brony in late 2012, and the Luna's guards already showed up

I've seen some good Bat Pony OCs. Just look at Maple Bat by MLPF Member @Maple Bat (Google Doc has better formating than current Character Database on these forums.)

I was dissapointed in how Hollow Shades turned out in part two of Shadow Play. It's been on the map since they first made one and it's been the unofficial home for batponies in equestria for so many years and it was just a barren landscape, long forgotten. Although I did quite like the "Well of Shame".

I think there's three reasons why we haven't seen anything more from the batponies. Firstly, the show creators are too focused on the existing agenda. Secondly, although there is much love in the fandom for batponies, they're not as marketable to the main demographic so it would only be fan pandering. Thirdly, they might just be thought of as too connected to Nightmare Moon. Luna hard a difficult time when she visited Ponyville on Nightmare Night, and arriving on a Hades style chariot pulled by slightly demonic looking ponies probably didn't help. And the fact that they would have served her willingly if Nightmare Moon had come out victorious, doens't speak well of their species. Luna is trying to distance herself from her past so she can live and do good in the now. Maintaining a Guard of Batponies out in the open simply isn't good for public relations.

But who knows. Maybe they'll get a moonlit spotlight on them eventually.
