How do people in China watch MLP?

Is MLP broadcasted there? When? I know Chinese people who know MLP but how?

MLP also contains a lot of western jokes and English slangs/jokes that would probably not be understood by native Chinese people.

And who voices the characters in Chinese? Are they hired by Hasbro?

I honestly don't know much about the Chinese TV distribution market, so I'm interested in knowing if anyone has specifics myself.

Apparently there are multiple channels that air the show in that area

Those channels include

東森幼幼台 YOYO TV in Taiwan airing the 8th season currently

ViuTV in Hong Kong airing the 7th season currently

翡翠台 Jade in Hong Kong airing the 1st season currently

Also from what I can gather the show is voiced in Chinese also

I think the Original post was talking about Mainland China (PRC)

And I'm not sure but appears to be broadcast in Mainland China from what I gather

I wish they would air the show on 明珠台 Pearl instead, because that channel is made for English shows and are from the same company (TVB Limited) anyways. It would be so much better to keep the original, I think the Chinese versions aren't as great... :sunny:

Damn, really was hoping they aired it on something like BTV Kaku or CCTV 14, both popular mainland cartoon channels. Netflix doesn't work through VPNs and I'm suffering from MLP withdrawal symptoms while in Beijing ;-;

Is Dailymotion blocked in Beijing?

Searched bit more and FINALLY found channels that air it currently

中央电视台电影频道 / CCTV-6电影 Episode 74 airs tomorrow 9:43 am

天津少儿频道 Episode 15-17 today at 3:28pm

哈哈动画 Airs them in pretty much random order

If im not mistaken these should be in the mainland

Sometimes English-dubbed anime has Japanese jokes, slang, idioms, and honorifics removed in favor of American English ones in an attempt to make the story appeal to a Western audience. This can be controversial, due to the debate over whether or not it can be considered "whitewashing," but it can and does occur.

I do wonder if a Chinese dub of MLP FiM would include similar localization beyond just translated dialogue.

Firstly, I hope you guys know Taiwan and China has huge difference(two different country in my political standpoint) so we can prevent some misunderstands. Well then, I'm from Taiwan, and sadly we don't watch the show aired on YOYO-TV, why? Because it's horrible, firstly, they'll cut a lot of scenes they think not appropriate to kids; secondly, most of VA just seems not get paid enough, the emotion we can feel from the voice of the character is completely lost. Not mention YOYO-TV once translated Twilight's name to a name of aphrodisiac(aka 活力寶), only normal folks watch MLP on YOYO-TV

Ok, so bronies here in Taiwan watch the show from online stream, like BronyTV, BronyState etc. and bronies in China is relying on the one who can bridge their firewall and watching the stream. But there're still many people both in Taiwan and China who still follows MLP have poor English, so most of them are watching the translated episode, the EP that hasn't translated we call "生肉"(raw meat), and translated one is "熟肉"(cooked meat). We usually have few people regularly translating the episode, and the translator here in Taiwan will post them on their Blog, or MLP pages on FB, in China mostly is posted on bilibili.

TL;DR: we usually watch lastest EP in online stream, the EP from local official TV station is horrible

``Born in the absurdity, fight for resist, move for seek, atone for regret, decease for the end; eventually back to start line, all beloved, hatred, dignity and honor are gone, not afraid everything is meaningless, not fear everything isn't belong to me; at the last of the destiny, still affirm the life.''

Usually it does especially in shows aimed at younger children it's why I think more hard-core fans watch it with the original voice somewhere with subtitles or without like Compeador there said. That is how I watched MLP too as the Finnish dub was pretty bad imo.

The voice actors that voice the dub Usually don't care or put much real effort into making the characters sound like in the original to convey the same emotional message through voice. Sure there are good dub actors sometimes but I feel that it is pretty  rare

get surfshark vpn and connect to the US or UK netflix (or use an illigetimate service if you prefer)
Netflix seem to have stopped careing about VPNs

That's good to know - being in the US I shouldn't have as much need of that as residents of some other countries, but I have heard of things being unavailable in the US yet available in other countries.

And speaking of China and MLP, Hasbro just rolled out Pony Life Cup-A-Noodles over there. So it must have a healthy Chinese fanbase.
