Rose sighed and said as she was thinking of ideas, "Okay, so I guess I'll have to wing it or figure out a way to stop Tenebris." She could try to get his pet to attack him, or request a non-magic fight,  but those might not work

Jade looked up at Dynamo. She was used to sitting on the floor to meditate, as she was raised to do, but she supposed it would wait. She climbed onto the couch and sat beside her teammate.

"I learned almost everything I know from Master Xiang," she explained, puffing out her chest. "He was my teacher since I was a filly, but I graduated from my village's fighting school a while ago, so I've been travelling to see what the world can offer."

She looked toward where Tricis had gone. "Master Tricis taught me the rest."

He says, before continuing. "I learned how to fight when I was around 14 years old. It was a little while after I gained my cutie mark. My mom and dad were worried about the bullies I had to deal with, so they signed me up in a dojo. My teacher was a 5th degree black belt and she taught me all that she knew. Although, my first teacher was named Pinball Wizard. He owned the local arcade from my home town. He had his motto of settling things in a video game and not with violence. Only unless it's absolutely necessary, then I can fight." He says, smiling as he remembered his old teachers. "He was very strong minded and knew strategies that even the pros wouldn't know." He raised an eyebrow at the mention of her village. "I was about to ask if you were from around here, but I guess that answered my question. Where are you from exactly? I live relatively close as I've been living in Ponyville for about a year now."

He looked to where Tricis had taken Frostflame. He nodded as he remembered what Jade had told him when they all first met. "I had a feeling that she was your teacher. Seeing how you told me there were times that Master Tricis was strict, but she meant well. Thanks for the warning back then. I would have been afraid that she'd be difficult to reason with. Even so, I can understand her teachings and methods may sound or look extreme. I do know that they are beneficial, in the end." He says, remembering that he could finally sense the magic and energy of others.

Dynamo smiled and nodded at Jade's remark. "Thanks and I'm glad to hear that you approve. Master Pinball was never a fan of violence. He always thought that if you can play a video game and had a problem, then you could settle the dispute in the virtual world. Whenever I played against someone in a video game, I feel as if I get to understand them. Whether they sit next to me or across from me. Whether I'm fighting the other individual from across the world of Equestria. Even if there are no words to be said. The way they fight, the way they react, I just feel like a connection can be forged." He says, eyes widening as she explained where the captain originally lived. "You're from the Neighsian Mountains? That's pretty far off the map. Plus, it sounds like a pretty steep location in the mountains. I'm not sure if the place is high up, but if so, then I'm not the best when it comes to heights." He says, tilting his head as he had a curious expression on his face. "What was the place like? I could imagine that it must be a beautiful place. Did you ever have any breathtaking views to witness on the mountains?"

"I had a feeling after she gave me that little speech this morning. In a way, I probably wouldn't have won without that speech." He smiled sheepishly with a chuckle, before shaking his head and turning back to the captain. "What are some things that you like? Such as any interests or hobbies. For me, it's obviously video games and anime. Although, I like swimming, listening to music, reading and dressing up and going to conventions. That, and I like to compete in tournaments. The video game kind to be more specific."

"Oh, just a normal mare." She said, "I wanted to work for dad but he wouldn't let me because he was worried about me getting hurt and then there was the whole something-something personality disorder thing. After that he didn't trust me with anything!"

As Topaz was talking, Rose took a few gulps of her bottle and said after, "Hm, interesting, so do you know which of the personality disorder it is? She gently shook the bottle and heard that she has about four to five gulps left. She placed the cap back on and placed it next to her

She rubbed a hoof on her other leg, thinking about things she liked. "I like training, sparring, meditating, um..." she trailed off, ears lowering in deep thought.

Dynamo smiled as he listened to his captain describe her foalhood home. "It sounds like a really nice place to live. I hope I can get a chance to visit the Neighsian Mountains one day." As she listed off the things that she liked, Dynamo frowned as he noticed her ears had lowered. It was somewhat quiet as he felt guilty. "I'm sorry if I had said something wrong. I do think that meditating is pretty cool. I can imagine that it helps sharpens the mind and strengthens the power and control of your magical abilities." 

His eyes shifted to the floor as he glanced the other way. "There was one question I was wondering, but I was wondering if you could please be honest." He mutters softly enough for her to hear him, before continuing. "I know that Cosmic and Frozen were getting on everyone else's nerves, but I was wondering why nobody was answering their question. I know that it could be my kindness, or that I have something special in me that they don't have or can replicate." He shook his head as he felt he was rambling. "I'm sorry. I guess it's just...I was afraid. They were the one's that tried to keep me from being myself. After gaining my mark and magic, I felt that I could finally move past their tormenting and follow my heart. Even so, they still won't give up on their ambitions. Cosmic was all about power and talent, while Frozen was all about strategy and a powerful mind. I know the things that they said were uncalled for, but I still wanted to know. Why me instead of them?" He asks, finally turning to face his captain and look into her eyes.

"It's just that...I see everyone on the team as my teammates. However, during today's fights, I felt like it was much more than a match. I was absolutely terrified that I might not have made it. I've taken my fights seriously and know that this isn't just a game. However, what Master Tricis had said really got to me. I know it sounds crazy, but at some point when I was fighting Patchwork and I placed up the shield, I felt as if I was talking to my late father. Whether I was going crazy, or I was speaking to him, I might not ever know. What he talked to me about was what helped me to understand. One of my reasons to fight is for those that matter a lot to me. When you and Rose went to me on the ring, you could have taken me out. I wouldn't have blamed you, but you left me to fight. You literally gave me a chance and I didn't want to let any of you down. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I know that we are teammates, but a-are we...friends?"

Jade's ears perked up at Dynamo's question. They were indeed valid points, but she felt she could answer right away. Mostly because it reminded her of what Tricis had said to her a while ago.

"Power and strategy are nothing without meaning behind them," she explained. "Those like Cosmic and Frozen would sell out their own ideals for a piece of candy. You know what you are fighting for, and will not stray away from that path."

She blinked at his next question. The subject of friends was rather abstract to her outside of home, since she wasn't used to having any travelling companions. "I... I suppose we are?"

Dynamo had waited with baited breath as he wondered what his captain would say. He was afraid of any harsh criticism, but he told himself he wanted an honest answer. What he didn't expect was how his captain explained her response. As she spoke, the blue unicorn had a look of awe and shock. He soon looked down, trying to process what she had told them. "I never really thought of it that way." He chuckled slightly at her joke to Cosmic and Frozen, before shaking his head and smiled. "I can honestly see them doing something like that, but you're right. I've always fought for a reason and not to just seek strength or wisdom. I fought to protect what's important and to better myself. Not to be better than others, but to overcome any limit that stood in my way. I won't ever stray from the path of what true strength can be in the right hooves."

His smile faltered slightly at how Jade had answered his other question. He rubbed the back of his neck with a hoof and nodded. "That's okay. I guess the term friend can be considered in many different way. Sort of how Cosmic and Frozen see friendship as weak and more so use others to gain their benefits." He says, shaking his head at how much those two strayed from the good path. "To me, I see friendship as those who stand up for others. Those who give anyone a chance to be themselves. As well as give them the benefit of the doubt." He looks to his captain with an honest smile, before continuing. "You didn't think any less of me when we all met. You saw how far I pushed myself in my battles. While I admit that I do tend to go overboard, it's because I fight for those that matter to me. I could be the greatest gamer in the world, have amazing fans, or even have anything I could ever ask for. However, that isn't what I desire. Not even the wish we'd get if we win would get me what I want in my heart. I have two ideas on what I want to wish for, but those wishes aren't what I want to earn right now. For me, I just want friends who like me for me and have my back. Just the same as I would always be there for them. No matter what, I'll always see you as my friend, Jade. The same goes for Rose and Master Tricis. I'm not sure what they would say, but I know I'd still fight alongside you guys."

From afar it looks like an ordinary glove, but as he tosses it aside it makes a somewhat louder thud than expected. He sticks out his right hoof, in compliance.

Tricis nearly chuckled at what Frostflame said. If only he knew, he wouldnt have bothered threatening her. "I've only ever heard of Frostflame. But what I do know about is the elderly and you're not too good at passing yourself off."

Tricis narrowed her eyes as she observed Frostflames aura. It was swirling, but she couldn't see what locked it. 

"If you want to take advice from me, you need to act less angsty and more jaded. And yes, there is a difference."

She let go of Frostflames leg and pressed her hoof to his. There was a faint glow as she attempted to correct what was wrong with him.

"You're gonna have a hard time explaining what you did today."

"Sadistic." Topaz answered. "I have 'sadistic personality disorder.'" She added with air quotes. "Can you believe that? As if its even a problem. Theyve even got me taking pills but I dont usually take them. Don't tell daddy!" She added playfully.

Rose said as she jokingly raised her hoof a bit as if making a promise, "I swear that I won't tell your father." She quickly looked around to see that it was a little slower than before and randomly thought about how much Topaz can take before it was enough, but she push that thought out.

"Secondly, as someone who has been hunted and betrayed their whole life, it would only make sense I show resentment toward my allies, I do not trust them, you above all. The last person I trusted, got me in this mess." Frostflame puts his sword back in his main hoof.

Jade nodded slowly. She easily could think of Dynamo as a friend, but it just felt strange to call somepony outside her home a friend, for some reason.

Tricis gave her diagnosis. "I can see now that my original theory is correct. Your own body is the thing doing this without your brain's knowledge. It's creating a new power in you to prepare for an upcoming danger it senses. I've seen this happen before, and the body will give you back your powers when they're needed and it's ready. My guess is that your condition will continue tomorrow, but with any luck you'll be able to use magic again for your fight in the semifinals."

She looked up at Frostflame, seeing the apprehension in his eyes. "I already told you I'm not interested in finding out who you are or what you're hiding from, but I'm twice as old as the pony you're pretending to be, so give me some credit. Your aura was enough for me to know. Fiery, confident, powerful but underdeveloped, young. If you're worried about me telling someone, don't be. I'll let you in on a secret that will put your mind at ease."

She took a deep breath and stood across from Frostflame, speaking in a whisper. She was still open for him to attack if he so chose. "I get it. You're alone and you want to stay that way. As someone who spent over half her life by herself, I understand why you aren't quick to trust. But you're not going to have to worry about me for long because I'm not going to be here for the finals."

She sat down with her hind legs crossed and closed her eyes. "I'm telling you, and only you, because I know you're the one who's not going to tell anyone. And I know you're not going to try to stop me, and I don't expect you to ask any questions either. That's why I've been so hard on the five of you. I don't have much time before you'll all be on your own. You're a smart lad, so I expect I won't have to explain this to you. I'm not worried about you killing me right now because you're not going to be the one to do it. I'm talking about something that needs to happen. Something that I can't have the others interfere in, understand?"

"Gosh you're funny." Topaz said, leaning on the table with her drink now nearly empty.

Rail stood up and walked to his daughter's table. "Enjoying yourselves?" he asked. His two guards stood up behind him. The first thing Rose would notice was how tall the red unicorn was.

"She's funny, dad."

"I enjoyed your fight today, Rose. You wouldn't believe how stacked the odds were in the betting room. I wonder when the other gamblers will learn about how talented you are."

Rose said as she bowed her head in respect, "You are welcome for the enertainment, and I can imagine, I thought that I wasn't going to win either. It's a pleasure to meet you face to face." She saw that she was almost the same height as her father when he's on his hind legs.

"It is good to have friends in many places to rely on," she said. "Master Xiang said so, anyway."

Dynamo nodded with a smile. He was happy to know that his captain had seen him as a friend. He knew he wanted to ask the others, but he would wait to ask them another time. "Master Xiang is a very wise teacher. He seems to know that friendship can really be important. Sometimes I've learned about friendship from video games. I remember one game had said that no matter where we are, our hearts will bring us all together again. That no matter what, our friends will always be with us in spirit, no matter where we go."

Dynamo had a thoughtful look upon his face, before it turned into a curious look. "I know I've asked you a couple of questions, but is there any question you'd like to ask. Any question that comes to mind." He says, trying to hold back a yawn. He glanced out the balcony to see that it was starting to get late. He was surprised as he didn't know so much time had gone by.

Jade blinked slowly. She didn't understand video games, but that was a good message to have. "Very profound," she said with a nod.

She noticed Dynamo yawning, and looked back at him. "My questions can wait, you should get some rest. You've had a long day."

Dynamo smiled and nodded at Jade's remark. "Thank you and it really means a lot to me. I know that a good majority of others might not understand video games. Even so, it's helped get me to where I am today. I know it sounds odd, but video games help connect everyone and bring them together. Whether you're a professional, or a rookie, video games can be a nice thing in the right hooves. It's what helped me work as hard as I did and helped me in making such great friends." He said with a chuckle. 

At Jade's suggestion, Dynamo wanted to object and continue talking. He tried to say something, but a simple yawn had escaped from his lips. "I guess you're right and I won't argue with the captain's orders. I guess I'm still worn out from using that spell." He says, giving his captain a tired, yet serious look in his eyes. "I promise you that I won't ever use that spell unless I have to. I know our next opponents won't be easy to handle, but we'll do our best and be ready for them." He says, fidgeting slightly as he was worried about his next actions. He took a deep breath, before leaning over and giving Jade a hug. "Thanks a lot for the chat and letting me get to know you, Jade. Thank you for also being a great captain and an even better friend." He says, leaning back and giving Jade a smile. "I hope we can still talk a bit more later. I still want to get to know more about my friend, after all." He says, slowly getting up out of the chair and walking towards the door. He opened the door and exited the room, but not before looking back at Jade. "Goodnight captain and see you bright and early for training." He waved as he closed the door behind him, while making his way to his room.

Jade blinked and allowed Dynamo to hug her. She wasn't sure how to react to such contact with a pony she'd only recently met, but she didn't try to release herself.

She watched as Dynamo went to leave for his own room and nodded. "Focus on recovering. We will commence training early."

Once he was gone, she hopped over to her bed and flopped down on it, sighing into the pillow. She was exhausted, especially mentally.

I lost myself. Not again.
