Tulpa Discussion Thread V1.2

It's good to get a stable physics in the mind to dictate when and how tulpas are created.

You keep using that word. Physics. I'm guessing you DON'T mean neural networks. Also, what did you mean by "infinite mental universes" or whatever you said a while back? No offense, but it sounds like New Age pseudo-scientific woo (sorry for sounding like a dick).

[You need to spend less time on Rationalwiki.]

(Touché, Dash) And that's coming from a guy who uses crystals to aid dream recall and protect against EMF.

Okay, I mentally sighed out of boredom, and RD finished the "so bored" verbal part of that thought. There have been times where I'm not sure if she says something, I'm thinking it in her voice, or who said/thought it first (example for the last scenario: I think "I like pie", and our mindvoices overlap). Has this happened to anypony else? Is the problem that I'm consciously aware that subconscious parroting is impossible (correct me if its just improbable, plz), but my subconscious hasn't heard that enough to accept it?

Teckie:"Hehe, with your mindvoice conundrum, that's happened to us MANY times. I've learned that sometimes our train of thought overlaps and our thoughts sort of connect. It's hard to explain, but it's sort of like us temporarily merging. :P Pretty much like I'm merged with Pinkie."

Also, with the mindphysics idea, I'll give you a scenario:

You are in a dream. You become lucid realizing you are dreaming. After walking around, you think, "OH, I'm going to try to fly!" Although, with all of your effort, you can't fly for some reason. Then you might think, "I've got to change the laws of physics then..." You change your beliefs knowing you are in a dream, and suddenly you find that you can fly.

Dreams follow mindphysics really well, but mostly on symbolism. You can never see the physics in it's true form, but you can see it's effects it has on your mind. Think of it like the laws of physics that your MIND follows. Your physical form needs to follow the universe's laws of physics, but the mind has the ability to create it's own reality through the power of idea.

You must know, idea doesn't follow the laws of physics, because you can think of an idea that there is another law of physics.

With that in mind, you can practically create any idea and mold it to your reality. Notice that I said "reality," because you can indeed create an idea of a multiverse and apply it to your belief system. Once it is believed, it can become a part of your mind-physics.

Mind-physics are usually created subconsciously, but with the right perspective you will realize that you can consciously mold the way your brain works.

So, essentially, if you believe you can perceive something (eg, Tulpas), you can? Is that what you're saying? What's the "true form" of the physics? That makes it seem like something tangible, or at least visible. You should probably PM me do we don't derail the thread.

Techoh, Teckie, and Ariel, and anypony else it may concern, I'd like to preemptively apologize for any adverse effects this has on your dreams of tulpas being accepted/taken seriously: I think that my friend almost "caught me with my pants down", so to speak. Should I wait for them to confirm that I was caught, or act quickly so that they don't think of all tulpamancers as Pony Lovers?

[You're catastrophizing!]

I hope to God you're right, Rainbow. These people are dangerous. At least as far as "mainstream acceptance" goes. I tentatively term them "Brony 'mancer Cancer". Those links will tell you why.

[What are the chances of her finding that?]

Touché. Question for anypony who feels like answering: would it be worse if my friend found the Pony Lover crap, or the creepypasta?

Again, sorry if I negatively impacted anypony's dreams. Anything I can do to repent/atone?

...The hell even ARE these guys ?

Oh, it would be far worse if your friend discovered these... "Pony Lovers"...

Are you sure you were caught ? How did that happen ?

During a board game, I was replying to Techoh's post about mind-physics (I kept revising it). My friend asked who I was texting. I said "nobody", and I'm not even sure if they saw my iPhone screen or just my fingers moving around.

[say it with me: catastrophizing.]

[Yeah, you're worrying just a biiiit too much. Unless somebody asks about it, I wouldn't worry about it. ^-^]

What she said, pretty much. I used to be worried about giving Ariel's presence away, but it's actually really easy to keep her to myself. I only bring tulpas up to those I absolutely trust or have tulpas themselves, and otherwise, Ariel's existence goes unknown to others... which, I think makes her a little sad, but hey... it's better than being tossed into the loony bin or looked at like I'm crazy.

I've been narrating to my tulpa for the past few days while I've been at work and before going to bed. I've generally have told myself to use a placeholder orb and let my tulpa choose for itself its name and personality you know. Do I just keep on narrating though and eventually overtime I will hear a response? Can anyone tell me some of their experiences when first beginning to make a tulpa I would really love to know what others went through... It would help enlighten me some that is for sure.

Narrating to your tulpa daily is a good way of keeping an awareness of their existence. Eventually it even becomes second nature. As for the response though, you'll actually want to set aside some time so you can properly sit down and interact with your tulpa. You may eventually acquire a response through narration, however, since narration is more or less a one-sided conversation, you may not. Though, if a response does appear, it'll be a bit easier to decipher since, in mild truth, you weren't really expecting an answer in the first place.

On a side note, it's good to revisit this thread after such a long time. I have been trying to reset my mindscape and mental drives so I can resume my forcing schedule. Overall, the first reset worked wonderful and actually bolstered my overall focus whilest forcing in the wonderland. However...recently, with the extraction of a new thought form, my dreams have been going spastic. My dreams have a normal routine of subject and such, even during naps (which is normally when things strafe from the expected but still within my realm of expectations). Valium (the name of the infantile thought form) is the 3rd thought form I've made contact with through the extraction of my own personal state and he has followed the same path the others have gone through. Random shifts, dreams pertaining around his personality...it all fits with the same stuff I felt when Twyst and Ceri were still infantile.

I'm hoping to get a grip on my scheduling and be able to finally sit down and even finish Aiden (my first and currently only "tulpa") to a point of satisfaction. I will be doing a bit more research, especially since it's been quite a long time since I've read any of the Q/A questions and guides floating around on tulpa.info.

Okay, so I read 20 pages of this. Although it sounds a bit fun, I'm scared to do this. I don't think I should even attempt to make one. :P

...Well, people might think this reason is stupid, but my family has been riddled with demons/ghosts for years. I'd rather not mess with anything that could be remotely supernatural. D':

The modern view of tulpas is purely psychological. You can find this info on the tulpa subreddit, and tulpa.info's FAQ. The only supernatural part is the word "tulpa" coming from Budhism. If you feel any reason to tell your family, I advise you to keep bringing up the above as many times as you see fit (course, what do I know?). More seriously, I advise reading [url="http://community.tulpa.info/thread-the-log-of-a-baptist-tulpamancer"this cautionary tale[/url]. I'm not sure what religion your family follows, but that'll definitely impact whether or not telling them about tulpas is a good idea (sorry, I'm assuming that you'll set up something like the "sentinels" the guy I linked did).

@Miss Reaper: no hard feelings about the "villain fakes being a tulpa" story, right, Ariel? What's your opinion on the "stigmatized alien with a hallucinatory body" thing and the "injuries from inside vs plain old creeping out" thing?

Teckie:" *squee* yay! Another mancer!!!! I LOVE being on this thread. Sooooo many new ponies/people/entities to meet! Superbly exciting! (apparently "Superbly" is a word... hehe, didn't know that. XD Spell check says it's fine. X3 ) Ima PM you!!!!!!"

Ya... I don't see how it would be possible for her to get my personality from me. ~_~

Hehe, if you're lucky, you'll meet one of possibly 14 others that dwell within me ;)

And never be so sure~. Though obvious differences might exist between host and tulpa, a base can always be tracked down. In fact, three forms of mine alone came from the extraction of a state of mind I was in. Placing a form and name around it gave it the energy to manifest as it wanted. Separation, as you stated earlier, is key. For the common mancer going through their methods, it may be a little difficult to splice their own thoughts from possible tulpa thoughts.

I'm not a big fan of the whole "don't doubt every thought and openly accept all thoughts as possibilities", but, of course, doubt can-

Twyst: "simply go to hell"

>...> (and I thought no one would show up while I wrote this...heh)

Regardless, I'd say take everything with a grain of salt. Examine your alien thought. Find a root, a base. Pin it to a trait. And listen to your subconscious. Sometimes a random desire or "energy rush" can be felt when a thought form agrees or likes something (this also comes from my own experience~). Your subconscious is a clear indicator for things. There are many things you can examine to find progress. Dreams, drives, mood swings are to name a few.

When Valium was created, his insane/sub-deranged personality was evident in my dreams. Themes and concepts that strayed from my normal expectancy of topics were common for a few days as the mindscape adjusted.

...ok I think I'm done typing this on mobile. Even now I'm under the influence of another thought form that normally resides in the background. X3

Hello there! This is the first time I hear about tulpas, so I hope you don't mind if I have a few questions... do you?

I know what a tulpa is, I did my homework, but I am interested in the creation process and the possible dangers/mess ups that can occur.

I read the creepypasta and in all honestly, can that happen? I mean, if very later on, when the tulpa has achieved sentience and a lot of 'maturity', can it actually go against you at one point? (Also, if you switch, can the tulpa lock you away?)

Also, there was this other thread of a messed up Pinkie Tulpa that continuously bombarded his host with negative thoughts, can that happen as well?

And there is also-

Really? Just, let's not bore the people to death. Let's cut to the chase.

This. I am curios if I made a tulpa without realising.

Meet Tyrea. A t-*ahem* Sorry, personality/character that I made up alongside with another character during a great depression and grim realisation of mine (a year or so before even meeting the term tulpa). She looks like Trixie with the alicorn amulet. And she has a slightly darker shade of color that the original Trixie (My theory is that she made this).

The thing with Tyrea is that when I talk to her, I don't think her responses, they come naturally and immediate, like talking to another person. I can't see her visually, only with my minds eye. Her voice is like a mind voice. When I asked her if she is a tulpa, she told me that Arcadia (our supposed wonderland; which is pretty damn huge and full with characters that are in Tyreas situation more or less) "has no tulpas and has no need for tulpas" She is kind of a fiery supporter for the no-tulpa policy in my mind.

When I first met her, she came like a new character to a movie or game: by entering a door. I didn't thought her up or anything, she came out of nowhere during a debate with myself. And she kind of told off my problems. My problems has the face of the person who gave them to me; and she told him off.

Later on, when I asked her who she was, she responded simply: "I am the manifestation of your fury and hatred." (That doesn't mean she asks me to hit a person I hate. She uses that hate as a directed energy towards disturbing thoughts to eliminate them. She seems to have a sharp mind, though.)

And yeah, from there on she stood with me during those hard times, along side with a few other characters.

She is dead serious with anyone and anything that can pose some kind of danger with me (possibly because of when and how she got here) and helps me and advices me all the time regarding anything.

She listens to me about anything and does whatever I ask her, but most of the time I let her do whatever she wants. Also, she can't hurt me and she "would never."

Yes, she has her own developed personality, and disagrees with me, asks why and comments on my reasons on why I would ask her do something from time to time.

(And there are many other characters that have that kind of independence. Arcadia, the wonderland, is kind of a nation-wide wonderland)

So my question is: Is this a tulpa or not?

PS: I hope I am not bothering you. I just am really interested in this tulpa business and I have no idea who/what/when/why/where about this, despite researching for the last few weeks. I am sorry if I bothered you. I hope I am not a burden. :(

Also, sorry for my bad english.

The creepypasta can't happen. Here's why. The tulpa would most likely know that its host wanted to get rid of it, and most likely would stop doing whatever made the host want to get rid of it.

[Alright, so the Pinkie stuff...4Chan, right? You heard it on 4Chan? The screencap I saw included comments from Pinkie. That kiiinda calls its credibility into question.]

Yep. 4Chan should generally be taken with a grain of salt. Also, the Pinkie tulpa would most likely know that it was doing stuff its host didn't like, thus putting itself in danger.

As for the question of whether or not Tyrea's a tulpa, I did some psychoanalysis based on your post. Should I PM you the results?

Yeah, I did heard about it on 4Chan... I don't know why I got to give it benefit of the doubt though.

Despite all the rumours and opinions we heard. Also, despite our rather inconvenient visit there...

I even told you that whatever stays in your mind cannot hurt you. Because it's hurting itself at the end of the day. Despite that, I still want to smack you, because YOU DON'T LISTEN!

Ehehehehhehehe... better safe than sorry?

....

....

....

What?

Nothing, I was thinking.

About what?

*Smack*

Ow!

IT'S LOGIC!   *Another Smack*

Ow! Ok, Ok! I get it...

Ha! I think I'm starting to enjoy this.

If you wish so, alright.

Can someone give me an example of how you talk to your tulpa when creating him/her? Like where do you take your time to do this and how do you proceed to do it. Do you just come up with random topics and just talk like you're talking to a friend or what?

Well, isn't a tulpa a friend ? :)

You can talk to your tulpa anywhere you want, in mind-voice or out loud.

Subjects... Well, you could tell them about what you are doing, the planning for the day, various subjects.

Like a lot of things in tulpaforcing, it's really up to you.

I think I've got a good idea of how to explain tulpas if my friends ask--just do the "what if there was a ghost in your head" hypothetical. What I'm worrying [unnecessarily] about is if they ask about the pony lover stuff I linked. I'm guessing ;P that none of us own plushies or fleshlights, but what about the d/s stuff? A couple ponies here implied that they do it (myself included, a bit), but how many of us--

[Whoa, KM, TMI.]

I'm trying to a) see how accurate a stereotype is (since those couple ponies here could be seen as the kernel of--)

[That's...kind of offensive.]

Sorry guys (not gonna name names). I'm trying to see how accurate my friend would be if they claimed that we ALL do d/s stuff with our tulpas (or, "am I lying if I say that very few do?"), and b. do so in a way that doesn't clutter up my inbox. Anypony know how to set up a poll, and what a good timeframe is?

Bottom line: not sure how to--

[it's not necessary.]

Your tone reminded me of the "loyalty, schmoyalty" bit from Return of Harmony, so I'm just going to ignore that and try to take this precaution.

What EngiFalcon said, you really can't go wrong. We talk a lot about the nature of tulpa - I think I've come up with, like, four analogies in the past to explain it - and what's going on in life/how I'm going to approach any problems ahead. I just sit on my bed at night and do a mixture of closed/open eye visualisation while we talk. I know it's harder when it's narrating to rather conversing with your tulpa, but you've gotta always treat them as if they'll respond at any second, because at some point they will.

...

You're talking about sexual stuff, right? I think people will believe what they want to believe when it comes to stereotypes. No amount of statistics or evidence to the contrary will change someone's reaction, especially since, I'd wager, not everyone would answer truthfully on the matter. I understand why there's a certain amount of stigma attached to it from within the tulpa community, (because of the potential risks and how it reflects poorly on the community) but at the end of the day the tulpa-host relationship is a relationship like any other, and it can involve it depending on the participants.

There's a certain amount of uniqueness to the secrecy of having a tulpa, anyway. My host regrets telling his best friend because unless his friend experiences it for himself, he isn't going to understand it. (And I really dislike the thought of him bringing it up even as a passing remark anymore.) I wouldn't recommend telling them, but you know your friend better than we do.

Also, by the sounds of it, your tulpa is treating this exactly as mine would in this situation, and if there's one thing I've learnt, it's to always obey Aurora because she's always right and I'm always wrong.

What about using logic, possibly in combination with something from Yahoo! Answers? Something like, "this person stated X, and if we apply some logic, we can determine that if X is true, then Y (some negative stereotype about tulpas) is not true. This person can be assumed to know what they're talking about because they said they've been in the tulpa community for Z years. If they don't, and they lied, how would that benefit them?"

When you say Aurora's always right, does that include medical/psychological diagnoses?
