Tulpa Discussion Thread V1.2

Rizoel & Crepuscule

Recommended Posts

I have a print-out picture of my desired tulpa, from the pony creator (sorry Cap'n Nemo!), and surrounding it are the traits (around 28 so far, I think, I am literally too lazy to turn around and pick it up to check), if I pinned this to my bedroom wall, (which is literally like a blank canvas save for a Borderlands 2 poster) and studied it during tulpa-forcing sessions, would it do anything? Do your eyes HAVE to be closed?

Sorry if this is stupid in any way, I am very, very good at sounding stupid in matters I have no experience in! Actually no, through all scenarios- I'm quite adept at it. *Feel of bitter accomplishment*

uh, I've never ( maybe once or twice...maybe) Done closed-eye forcingness. Did everything open eye and very lazily..So no, there's no problem with that. My proof? Jess, who's currently looking at this phone in a cute/confused way :)

Hope that helped, and keep us updated on stuff you do, if ya wouldn't mind- I know I love hearing about other's progress and stuff:D

Good luck!

(If you want read our whole story, here it is http://mlpforums.com/topic/31442-im-insane/

Me and Brandy have been living up our lives for almost the last two years now, except for that amount of time I didn't really pay her much attention (god I feel bad about that :() but thankfully shes not one to hold a grudge. Our conversations are usefully nonsensical randomn statements, or romatic smushy stuff that usefully leads to cuddling, that usefully leads to more private things... she is my waifu after all

We're even making a us daughter, the more the merrier!

You see?! What did I say? I'm very good at sounding stupid. What happened? I sounded stupid!

Thank you though, that helps a lot, I think I'll alter between closed eyes and not. This has just helped me feel a little more confident about the whole thing. I'll be sure to update this as well, assuming I have some noteworthy experiences, that is. Thanks!

Btw, I'm only about 3 hours in on making a tulpa, so I'm far from an expert on this thing. Again, read as many guides as you can.

I can't believe this is a thing much less that there are guides to it.

Maybe it's because I'm old and boring but I'm pretty sure in my day we called this schizophrenia.

I guess it's no different from summoning a Succubus/Angelic guide in the pagan faiths. No harm in it I guess.

All though I don't imagine self therapy will really work out well for most people.

Call me when your imaginary friends can move objects in the real world and I'll be interested in this. It would make a fascinating study if someone could make a imaginary friend who could actually effect the universe in a scientifically quantifiable way.

Sorry guys, this simply doesn't exist :/ Neuroscience has conclusively proven that independent sentience cannot coexist with our thoughts, please do not risk harming yourself

Since I am in a really fucking foul mood due to losing Dashie, I am going to put it simply.

Tulpa do exist.

Do not bother trying to argue.

But they'll never be able to... that's the main thing about tulpas, is that they're not physical. Besides, is it actually schizophrenia if you don't have a chemical imbalance, and you're consciously aware you're making a tulpa?

Sorry guys, this simply doesn't exist :/ Neuroscience has conclusively proven that independent sentience cannot coexist with our thoughts, please do not risk harming yourself

"Behind-the-scenes" explanation of tulpas:

Of course it's not a separate sentience. You're using your own sentience to create another set of values that get applied to a subconscious character. Authors, cartoonists, and other character-creators do the same thing; they just don't take it quite as far. And they do not coexist with our thoughts, they operate in the subconscious.

How do you believe this to be harmful?

I'd like to see these supposed sources you're talking about. I've never seen any kind of study that would even remotely disprove the possibility of tulpas, and in fact have seen a few that would seem to support it.

See this study that showed you can implant fake memories in a brain: http://www.spring.org.uk/2008/02/implanting-false-memories-lost-in-mall.php

The Ganzfeld effect - by simply removing sources of information, your brain comes up with its own. http://www.boston.com/bostonglobe/ideas/graphics/011109_hacking_your_brain/

Not to mention medicinal placebos, where simply believing something will work causes it to.

Lucid dreaming is scientifically proven and shows an awesome capability of the brain to generate imagery, personalities of people, and other experiences.

These do not have anything to do directly with tulpas; however, they demonstrate how malleable the mind is any how it can adapt to any situation. Is it really that far-fetched to think one could make a subconscious entity that you can also, over time, impose onto your senses? Much of the brain's function is derived from expectation.

@@Applesmack & Brandy,

I read your story ages back when I was first exploring the concept of Tulpae...Back then I didn't really know much and it didn't mean as much to me, other than it was a massive thing, however, now I realize just a bit what that may have been like...You bloody well inspired me once again, showing just how powerful these things can be.

I thank you.

I think Jess just said Woof...Don't even ask, she called one of my mates an Otter yesterday...Yay! Sensical pony!

So no matter what you do, or how good you get at it, your tulpa will never never effect reality in in any way, only you can see them, only you can hear them, there are various sources which guide you to finding your tulpa and people will argue about which source is the most effective method but holy horny dragons bat-man don't anyone DARE question the existence of your tulpa or how you made it.

You should stop calling them Tulpa and just call it what it is. You've made MLP: Friendship is Religion. .

I hope I made mysel clear. I hope I won't have to post that one video...

From the way that Tia was looking at these posts... I'm just going to let her take over and argue this one...

To ultimately clarify, first of all, Tulpae are NOT supposed to interact with the physical world.  It would certainly be a psychic  anomaly and would be an interesting matter should it actually happen, but both my host and I know that I have no true substance; I am merely the product of neurons firing in Bris' brain giving him the sense that I am here.

But when compared to mental disorders, we share significant differences as well as similarities.  Schizophrenia is the mental inability to perceive reality, while the processes that create a Tulpa such as myself is a purposeful change in the perception of reality by the host.  This coincides with the known mental capacities of the brain and it's ability to visualize and create things that aren't there.  If someone can hallucinate uncontrollably to a mental disorder, with enough mastery, one could control it.  And that is the idea of a tulpa.  They serve as a path of mental mastery as well as constant companionship.

Note the post above simply to prevent Blackjack here from having another aneurysm...

Octavia: MLP:FiR? Get me the escape hatch, I'm allergic to other loonies!

Adam: I feel confusion.

Anyways, I think the difference between an imaginary friend and tulpa is primarily a matter of scale. A tulpa is primarily run by subconscious after a point and seems to be somewhat independent, while an imaginary friend is run primarily on conscious effort and does not seem to operate subconsciously enough to appear independent.

I think. Someone without thought disorder, explain this please.

Octavia: Wasn't it like a key point of our 'existence' that we do not technically exist as anything other than a forced psychological hallucination or something?

Adam: Yep.

Are you just asserting they exist? or is there some degree of evidence you can present?

And telling someone not to argue back is a sure fire sign of a bad argument. Believe me, I would love it to be true, but you guys sound no different than the 12 year olds over at www.mytelekinesis.org. Where are the documented, peer-reviewed, scientific papers on this stuff?

Just to say, you're contradicting yourself.

If a separate consciousness is proven scientifically to NOT be possible, how then, do you explain mental disorders such as MULTIPLE PERSONALITY DISORDER that are proven scientifically to contain separate consciousnesses, mental disorders such as Schizophrenia that creates distortions of reality, and even scientific studies showing that these mental disorders are merely the inability to control the components of the brain responsible, and some people, especially those experienced in meditation have been able to activate those same areas and control them how they see fit?  A Tulpa cannot physically prove themselves, but through the extents of the brain as proven by science, we can assume their possibility.

Warning, may inhibit the progression of some individuals.

Tulpa's exist, not in a sentient life form, but they are your subconscious. You basically build a frame with the personality for the subconscious to mold to so you can be conscious of it. So, it is just your subconscious, but you need to view it as a sentient being to create it, well most people do (i am one of the exceptions. But perhaps that is my trouble). And so, yes, they exists, but they are not a sentient being, but your sobconscious. The sub conscious is a proven fact.

Tulpa 1: know what they are, instincively, and 2: can bring no harm to you mentally as they are you. They will not harm themselves, 3: they can't take over or cause you to do anything you do not want to do. They can pressure you, but it is all up to you.

So yeah, they do exist, AND Tia was right, just hers, was very sciency (is that a word? Twi is saying no and shaking her head.)

Actually Tia, my understanding is that there has never been a documented case of multiple Personalities, and Psychologist expect there never will be and that it can't exist. You can't put two beings into one body. People with cases that are close to MPD have been recorded, but not two true separate beings. More like the Tulpa/Human relationship  but where Black Jack pops out and can cause havoc instead of bris being himself. The MPD is used in Movies and TV shows, because it is fun, but as I said, that is just my understanding. I would love to be proven wrong with an actual psychology case file!

Did you learn the special theory of relativity? It is relative who is claimer here. Who says that disbeliver is the one who is favored? It is written somewhere? In bible or where? You were the one who claimed - that they don't exist. So give me the proof I am waiting for!

Guys, this discusion is going nowhere I think...

You are saying the exact same thing religious people have said since the beginning of time just with a personal religious icon instead of a public one. Not that having a personal religious icon is a bad thing. I just want you to understand how the rest of the world sees it. Telling people, "I'm in a relationship with someone only I can see and she's a Pony." puts you one step above the West Borough Baptist church and one step below people who dress up as Furries and have "Yiff piles"  on the freaky crazy person scale of society. More power to you, but just be aware of what you are getting yourself into.

I think if I ever made a tulpa it would be a Bit crystal like the one from Tron or Cursor from Automan.

Way better than a woman. It would remind me of all my appointments and give me all the answers to my questions without drama.

So

1) My tulpae aren't ponies

2) My tulpae aren't any religious icons or anything. It has nothing to do with religion.

3) What happened with religions is another question and has nothing to do with this, but I can explain how I see it to you if you want, just pm me.

4) read our other answers and REACT TO THEM, otherwise you'll look like a troll.

5) try to at least think a little bit about what we are saying before posting something dumb

6) I know how other people see it, but that's their problem. I don't tell them if they dont ask.

Right, sorry to interrupt this ever so joyful conversation, but I have a point offered to me by a friend. I'm quite interested in it too actually, I've heard of a few instances, but, meh...

Anyway,

Is there any way Tulpae can interact with other people's Tulpae? I mean, like sense them, or, for that matter, can a person sense other people's Tulpae?....

Well, any ideas are welcome.

(The shelling looks like it's not effective from here...Uh...When will it reach a conclusion?)

If these things exist then my answer would be no, they would be products of your own mind and would not be capable of interacting with others. I think the better question to ask would be how could they? It doesn't seem like it would even be rational to suggest

1) One kind of imaginary things only you can see and interact with is just the same as any other. It's still an imaginary friend.

2) Your Tulpa has -every- characteristic of -every- religious icon except that you haven't convinced millions of people its real yet. Which is kinda the point. If you are going to openly tell people you have a Tulpa then you should expect to be shunned just like some crazy guy who says his cats talk to him.  You are starting your own personal religion. You BELIEVE your Tulpa is real, you BELIEVE that it is improving your life by talking to it. You have FAITH that it will be there for you when you need it. Your Tulpa -is- your own personal religious icon. As an added bonus because there are no established doctrines for it, you can make it whatever you want. There is practically zero objective difference between a Tulpa and a religious figure except the number of people who talk to it and the money invested in the ideals surrounding it.

3) You are free to have as many imaginary friends as you want.

4) I did read all the posts. I find the subject quite fascinating. Pointing out facts that someone doesn't want to be true is not "Trolling."

5) Give me an example of when I have said something "dumb" and I will clarify for you.

6) A very wise choice.
