heavens-champion 1,905 August 6, 2019 Share August 6, 2019 I know this might be a minor nitpick, but did you notice that the Mane 6 didn't call each other (except Twilight) by their names in the Season 9 Premiere?
Will Guide 21,360 August 6, 2019 Share August 6, 2019 Is there some kind of law that you have to address others by name if you know each other very well? I don't think so. 1 A Dragon as big as his love for Disney and has his head in the clouds literally and figuratively Ask Will Guide | Signature by Wife of Hawks | WiiGuy2014’s OCs

"Well, Pinkie Pie, this is the part where you cheer us up" "Sorry, Rainbow Dash, nothing about this is funny to me"

I don't think so. There's probably some unspoken etiquette about how shows are written, especially kids shows, where names are mentioned frequently. The repetition makes it easier to remember them. And in the case of a show like this, it's bad to assume that everyone tuning into S9 is a seasoned viewer.

Hey, where in my post did I said everyone tuning into Season 9 is a season viewer? Nowhere! I was referring to the characters knowing each other well, they don't need to constantly say each other's name. It's actually annoying in real life to constantly say everyone's full name all the time Edited August 7, 2019 by Will Guide A Dragon as big as his love for Disney and has his head in the clouds literally and figuratively Ask Will Guide | Signature by Wife of Hawks | WiiGuy2014’s OCs
BornAgainBrony 2,397 August 7, 2019 Share August 7, 2019 Just now, Will Guide said: Hey, where in my post did I said everyone tuning into Season 9 is a season viewer? Nowhere! I was referring to the characters knowing each other well, they don't need to constantly say each other's name Don't quote me and put words in my mouth. Ehh... I didn't. I'm not talking about you specifically, but the creators. Suffice to say, the reason for keeping the names cycling in the dialogue is an OOC, not an IC one. KatonRyu 1,033 August 8, 2019 Share August 8, 2019 It kind of makes sense. I never call people by name unless I'm trying to get their attention. You don't generally add people's names to sentences when you're already talking to them, unless you're lecturing them or something.
Kadeda 178 August 9, 2019 Share August 9, 2019 They been friends for like a decade. They aren't count to be saying each other whole name at this point. That's just logical. MLP is surprisingly realistic like that. I think it's part of it's charm.

If they say "hey, you" They'll get confused, because they don't know whose attention they're trying to get. Names are important.

My friends always yelling "HEY! OVER HERE!" or something equivalent. Sometime they say my name but never my whole name. Only time I heard my whole name is when a teacher got mad at me back in school. Sepul-Coloratura 762 August 11, 2019 Share August 11, 2019 Maybe, and that's a big maybe, because of it's getting harder and harder to make a schedule to put all the voice actors in one room? I noticed in more recent episodes when all the mane six exchanges dialogue all together in one room, they feel less natural and cohesive. Maybe it's that they voice acted all separately and while vocal recording was on process, they were writing the script in hurry so they didn't include the names just to make the dialogue more open to changes during the process? It happens in many TV shows.
Drunkfrank 1,125 August 12, 2019 Share August 12, 2019 WHen the movie felt the need to introduce every character by name it felt jarring and forced but also was needed as it was meant for a new audience as well as current fans. This is the season 9 premiere, they don't need to address each other by name all the time and the interactions they have don't call for it. I know all the characters, I know them very well, the movie reintroducing them made sense and was needed. But to me it felt awkward as it isn't something that friends who knew each other for years would do.
