During which season did the fandom toxicity drive you away from watching the show any further, if at all?

  1. 1. During which season were you driven away from watching the show any further by the rampant fandom hate?

I have watched the show in bursts. Sure the last two seasons were far for good for my taste, but the community had little-to-no input in it.
The community is mostly chill, beside the weird factionalism that can happen on Twitter etc. I doubt I ever had any real trouble with a fellow pony fan. :please:

I can understand that the community can drive one away, we are social animals after all. I think generally just enjoying the show for what it is and being your own boss is the best. Fandoms can be nice, but they do suffer from the usual negative aspects of communities, especially online communities. Ideally one have a strong enough identity which allows the person to interact with the community but allow to pick and chose what to follow and what to ignore. It may sound cynical but you do get a vote in this exchange.

Well if you ever met me while I watched the show, I hope you wouldn't have real trouble with me avidly watching season 6 like all the previous seasons before I was driven away by everyone at the time because they said it was the "most hated and worst season to exist."

And even if I do ignore the entire fandom and pretend I'm the only one who watches the show, I won't be losing anything?

Only fans I have encountered have been here, and this appears to be a decidedly non-toxic community.

You'll be losing all the great stuff which comes out of the fandom. Whether that's worth it to break free of the negativitu is up to you.

THAT IS NOT WHAT I MEAN.

I mean I can just silently look at everyone's work but never comment or openly communicate with them. How am I suppose to be losing anything there? Because I'm sure I'm not.

well as someone who lurked for most of his life before only becoming active last year, I'd actuallu say I'm in a prettu good position to comment on the difference -  and I wouldn't want to go back. But then, I enjoy interacting - if it just stresses you out, it might be better for you not to. Doesn't have to be all or nothing, though.

And why shouldn't it be all or nothing? Because if it isn't it would mean opening myself the to the possibility of something I hate into my life. I  have to show I am not weak by purging myself of everything undesirable.

If uou can't excerisie enough self-control to engage with fandom reasonably, I'm not sure about uou being able to avoid it completlu. But I'm no expert.

I once lost interest in the middle of S2 on 2017. I came back a few months later. And I haven't lost interest ever again.

I think S9 came with some compulsion. But I finished it, it was good.

I never ever was driven away!  The fandom and the show are two different entities to me.

I weathered the show since early 2012, and I’d have been danged if I ever left cause of a few bad apples, but that’s just me.

Im new to this site, but so far no one here comes off as toxic to me.

Go find one toxic fan and I’ll show you many more that are not.

Toxic fans don’t drive me away from what I like. They just drive me away from interacting with the fanbase. The biggest issue I’d run into interacting with the mlp fandom was being creepily hit on.

However when I interacted with some casual fans of the show it was great. I’d run into issues from people who don’t like the show at all but even then I don’t care. It’s not going to drive me away from what I like, just interacting with the fandom.

Personally, I've never understood why people would let other's opinions ruin something they like.  If one is enjoying the show, then why would the fandom's toxicity change that for you?  I mean, if one actually isn't enjoying it, then don't keep watching it.  Yeah, sure, that makes sense.  But if you like it, and people on the internet are screaming that they don't, why should that prevent you from liking it or watching it?  Isn't that kind of the whole mission statement of this fandom?  Like what you want and who gives a sh*t if others don't?  I mean... if you don't like the drama or the toxicity... then just don't look at it, y'know?  Watch the show, and don't look at the forums, or any other online crap.  I mean, lol, no one is forcing you to jump online and check what the fandom buzz on every episode is.  Just watch it for yourself and ignore the community if it bothers you, y'know?  I just don't understand why one would let stupid internet toxicity prevent them enjoying what they like.  Many people don't seem to realize this, but there is an absolutely novel, incredibly useful, magic solution for instantly silencing all internet rage and toxicity--it's that little red X in the upper right corner of your web browser.  :twi:

Fandom toxicity is one of the reasons I left in 2019 and took a little over a year away from the forums. I have seen the changes I want to see, no politics for one.

I can agree here.

letting your hatred dictate whether you want to leave a group or not is unhealthy. especially when you choose to stay angry and not leave
