They should either come back (or be visited using time travel) as good or not come back at all. At least not make them evil.

I am fine with them staying in the past, although if they did come back my opinion would vary depending on how well it is executed.

Having a character who's got a big fanbase and who has been established as good come back as evil wouldn't work very well:  it'd feel insulting to the fanbase, and to the narrative of the character.

Daybreaker was a very interesting character, I'll admit, but since she was just a figment of Starlight's imagination, she didn't ruin Celestia as a character, nor did it insult or nullify the narratives Celestia had been through before Daybreaker's debut in G-4.  But if Daybreaker came back in G-5, they'd need to have a real good explanation as to how that happened, that doesn't wreck Celestia's character!

Depends entirely on execution. People love Evil Rarity.  And I, for one, like the evil princess characters, since them having a dark side makes them more interesting to me. My opinion on Celestia improved the more she showed in the show that she wasn't a perfect do-gooder, and I wish they could've done more with Daybreaker and Midnight Sparkle. Now that I've seen the movie, I'm more confident than I would've been in the past that they could do something like this without disrespecting the princesses.
