Hmm nice, so that's something to consider. But now the real question is what others will think of this. :P

Since some members already are worried about the "competing" aspect, esp. when brohooves were mentioned, then in theory, such daily limit should help make everyone have equal chances, and prevent ranks from skyrocketing by playing games, while still making every type of post count. If that would be a thing, then as I mentioned earlier, I'd lean towards making all content count, blogs, statuses, replies to them - as they still require a bit more effort than playing forum games (namely the counting one), so it would be fair to count these too and let everyone decide how they want to spend the time here without "losing" anything. Otherwise everyone who pays attention to ranks would be encouraged to go to forum games and post a bit there for grinding over talking with friends in status updates, for example.

Everything except brohooves, that is. These serve their own purpose already.

Of course, I'm just sharing random thoughts that float around my mind to bring for consideration, like the topic title says, more feedback would be great.

I prefer the system we have now, honestly.

The former system makes it far too easier for users to spam to get the rank they want.

Lol people do it anyways :nom: . I’ve seen peeps in the past basically post parts of the same “thought” over several posts at once or some short time after. I’m not going to get upset over this though. Mostly pointing it out.

Two ways this can happen. One is giving more points to every new topic which would go to the OP. The system also allows the OP to get a point for every reply too.

If this would include previous topics and forum games. I would have 500K+ points immediately should this occur :ButtercupLaugh:.

Just a thought. I’m not 100% down with this, but what if there was a daily brohoof limit? Or maybe you could brohoof always but only certain ones counted each day towards count? Would make brohoofing more meaningful, for sure. Or make them separate, like “hits” or “clicks”.

oh wait I see that’s already a consideration

If we are to add more new ranks, do you have any idea what new ranks would be added?

@Rikifive

I would say that giving Brohoofs may be something that could also increase ranks. Friendship is about giving, as well.

I believe getting points for every type of content would be more than enough, even without brohooves it is already significantly faster than it was prior to the update.

And.. I guess it works in both ways the more I think of it. Having friends would allow you to, for example, make just 3 quick posts and gain 50 points off it from brohooves, while, let's say, new members with no friends (yet) would have to work harder to get 50, making the start feel less... friendly perhaps? I fear "being alone" could hit harder because of this. I'd lean towards letting members themselves work towards rank, brohooves have their own counter and it's enough.

Yeah, this is what I'm thinking about.

Previously - working hard, getting 10000 posts and master race reached. If forum games will start being counted, 10000 will be pretty much nothing compared to numbers like 500000, which will become perfectly valid numbers to achieve. Therefore, the rank requirements would have to be adjusted to account values like 1M, and members automatically would drop few ranks down anyway, unless someone played forum games, thus be in the group that would receive a huge boost. Those who didn't play games and don't have these hundreds of thousands posts... will get angery. :P

It's a tough situation, I fear many will be left unsatisfied no matter what will be done. :c

Or just keep not counting them :nom:.

Or just do a split system between posts/blogs and brohoofs (the latter wouldn’t have any ranking associated, just pure number). Sure some people are going to be popular and that’s just the way it is :P . Although yeah, if you want to make it meaningful, just do a brohoof cap or separate click cap.

And that's the entire problem :P Jeric mentioned it's all or nothing. Either posts across all forums grant points, or none at all, no option to exclude certain forums from counting like it is with the post count.

And if not posts... then what? :P

Brohooves already have their own counter, so there's kinda no need to mix them with ranks. :darling: Unfortunately, Jeric mentioned, that there's only a cap for total points earned per day as an option, without the ability to specify limits for particular activities.

Wouldn't be too fond of this, I would have already had the Elements of Harmony rank, but I only never achieved it because of some things out of my control. Having something like that would set me back from where I should have had it?

Hmm okay, hypothetically, let's assume, that the current ranks would stay as they are, so you'd get the Elements of Harmony for your 10000 posts. Since 10000 posts wouldn't be any challenge nowadays (esp. for those who love to play games), new ranks would have to be placed with higher requirements, for example the potato rank for 100K - you'd be now working towards that rank, while many others would just teleport there with like 400K on their account. Theoretically you got your rank back, but it still would leave you behind from certain perspective - would you be okay with such outcome if that was the case?

Just hypothetically~ because the top of the mountain should probably be moved higher in one way or another, so to speak.

Creating a new topic can be worth more than a point.

Receiving a brohoof can count.

Status Updates can count.

Replies to Status Updates can count.

Blogs can count.

Logging in the first time that day can count.

Creating RP Character Sheets can count.

Being followed can count.

Logging in would count for a “like” or a post?

I like the idea of blogs counting in some way. And not because I really need to get back to my episode notes blogs... ;)

The blog system ruined my perfect 9,999 post count streak I had been keeping for months, because I had no idea a blog post would increase the post count.

But yea, blog entires are hard work, and it is good if you can earn points for them.

Hmm all I would add as a suggestion is to make a pinned topic in this forum section detailing what the ranks are, how many posts each requires, and which activities count towards points and how many points. This will help new users understand the system. Currently there is no longer a clear list of ranks, or is there?

There is, but a bit sneaky to find, it's in FAQ:

I guess the book will need to be updated sometime soon.. :mlp_icwudt:

Oh and @Props you asked about librarians earlier, they are listed there with a brief description what each rank is for. If you're curious about some more details, it all has to do with these forums: https://mlpforums.com/forum/303-golden-oaks-library/

So there seems to be a general consensus that blogs counting would be a good idea. So that is now turned on. Authoring a blog entry counts as making a new topic (1 point) and commenting on a blog counts as 1 point. I actually vaguely recall this counting before anyway, but I could be wrong.

Point.

New topics, topic replies, new blog entries, blog entry replies all count as one point AND increase post count. The new points feature allows for adding points just for showing up (logging in). I'm indifferent on that one. I'd rather use other than points for that one.

Where do I see how many points I need for the next rank on desktop? On the mobile site it shows me when I click the hamburger icon.

There is one little detail I noticed in the system that seems rather bad:

Spoiler

When hovering with the mouse over a user name/avatar, you will receive the actual time (this many hours, days, etc) since that user got their last rank. That kind of information is only relevant for competing against others. It doesn't serve any purpose and should be a private thing, just like the number of points left until the their next rank (which is private).

On desktop, resize the browser's window so the forum's layout changes to mobile view:resize.png.c68e7bba03850f6f7f63035fa4689430.png

Now, the information is visible in the menu brought down by the top right icon.

Also, is this thread implying that ranks after EoH may be added? I wasn't really sure.

That's a challenge for @Jeric, along with being allowed to choose your own rank when reaching the end.

If you ask me, I don't think it will be possible. My screenshot reveals that there are no points after EoH.
