I wouldn't say that Twilight is exactly being paid for being the equivalent of the town librarian. She's the Princess' top student. Celestia could've easily negotiated a deal Twilight is allowed to stay at the library, as long as she's working there. Same goes for Pinkie. I'm sort of doubting the Cakes would just let a pony like Pinkie stay for free. Rent could be their choice of payment. Edited September 6, 2012 by Rarietty

It seems like Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash have the most "loose" jobs of the 6, at least in my opinion, while Twilight Sparkle is considered a librarian, she's the studious of all students!

Sorry but I'm going to have to nitpick here. Fluttershy was not in charge of the animal team in Winter Wrap Up she was simply a member of the team.

 

After looking at the episode again I can see that maybe she was not the team leader. I was just thinking the pony who could talk to the animals would be in charge. Also towards the end she was trying to talk to Rainbow Dash who was the team leader of the sky team. So that was also what I was going on.

Well fluttershy didnt even have 20 bits when she wanted that cherry. She lives on the edge -- she doesnt have or need much money in general.

 

Pinkie Pie -- I guess could pull extra bits out of hammerspace if she really needed them, but I would say if you wanted her to make a pile of bits on the floor it wouldnt tally to much more than 50.

 

Twilight's expense account probably would allow her to write a writ for 250 bits right on the spot if she wanted to. I don't see her hording actual bits though and she probably carries about 30-50 at any time.

 

Rarity's money situation is the most strange -- she gets it and blows through it on silks etc. I would say if she REALLY NEEDED 100 bits for a shipment of rare materials she could have it by the end of the week -- but usually she doesnt have more than 30-50 onhand.

 

Applejack has more money kicking around and a ton more when cider season occurs. I'd say she has access to about 200 bits most of the time and closer to 1,000 post cider.

 

Rainbow Dash through winnings and her job as head weather pegasus for Ponyville along with how little she spends on things (never to the spa, etc) -- just saves all her bits. She has well over 1,000 bits stored and/or invested. By the time she is ready to retire she will give filthy rich a run for his money.

Fair enough. I had to look up the episode myself to double check. On one hand, Fluttershy's ability with animals seem to make her an ideal leader for the animal team, but then again she couldn't be further from the leadership type. I'm glad they didn't make her a leader in that episode despite the fact that the other two teams are led by one of the mane 6. Its consistent with her character, unlike in some other episodes like "Suited for Success" where Fluttershy doesn't seem to have any qualms with being put in a fashion show. I don't care for it when they ignore character personality traits for the sake of a plot (although with that said, I still easily consider "Suited for Success" one of my favorite episodes).

I've wondered before if Fluttershy might have her animal friends help gather food from the wild. With so many animals there to help her, I'd imagine it would be easy for her to be a bit of a natualist.

i think fluttershy's house is payed for she proably made it some how i think she baby sits pets takes care of some from nature and maybe also runs a sorta pet shelter where she trys to adopt them off her only real pets proably angel

Just to reiterate and voice my own view on the Mane 6's employment:

 

-Twilight has always struck me as a librarian, or, if anything, a student of Celestia's with an educational stipend to live in Ponyville to continue with whatever studies.

- Applejack is a farm laborer/ harvester on her family's farm.

- Rarity owns her own fashion studio where she designs and tailors clothing and other various apparel.

- Pinke Pie is an apprentice baker working for the Cakes.

- Fluttershy, like mentioned before, runs her own animal nursery, akin to a veterinary perhaps.

- Rainbow Dash seems like she works for the Weather Facility in Cloudsdale, maybe working as a weather technician liaison in Ponyville.

 

I always thought it was interesting that the Mane 6 had jobs; it sorta gives them a level of maturity among the otherwise silly antics they always entangle themselves in.

Although I can't see fluttershy being rich, I always kinda assumed that she could have bought that cherry, but she didn't think everypony would hopelessly overcharge her so she just brought enough do that she could make the salad

Fluttershy is something like a veterinarian, who takes care of animals. She probably gets some kind of compensation for making sure the animals are healthy and functioning properly in nature.

Twilight Sparkle is also the librarian of Ponyville. No idea who looked after the library before she moved in.

Rainbow Dash is in charge of maintaining weather in Ponyville.

Fluttershy most likely gains her income from her chickens. The eggs, I mean.

I also like the idea of Twilight now being Ponyville's librarian, but we haven't seen her lend out any books yet. I think it would be good to see.

Rarity is a designer and has worked for pony celebs such as Sapphire Shores and Hoity Toity.

Rainbow Dash is a weather pony, most likely the head of weather for Ponyville, as others have said.

Fluttershy runs an animal sanctuary/adoption centre and is also a vet, more to wild animals than pets.

Pinkie Pie, obviously, works at Sugarcube Corner, but, remember, she also organises parties and agreed to be the Cake's go-to babysitter.

BTW twilight's job in ponyvill is librarian. I don't think being a student pays.

Twilight is clearly the Librarian. She openly offers to lend books to friends. Rainbow Dash and the CMC are one I recall. She is also Chief Minister for Friendship in the Equestrian government. Doesn't everypony know that?

 

We all know that Rarity is a professional dress-maker. Let's remember that she was working her way to that job before getting her cutie mark, so she had a head-start over the others.

 

Rainbow Dash is in charge of weather control in Ponyville, I thought that was made quite clear in the first episode.

 

Fluttershy has a Chicken Coop and gets her income through that. How many times do I have to tell everypony!?

 

Applejack is easy. She works on the family farm. We all know that.

 

Pinkie Pie works at Sugarcube Corner. I don't think the Cake's charge her rent for living in the shop with them. Maybe they're close friends to Pinkie's parents.

As for the jobs of the 3 here they are.

 

Fluttershy- I her job involves knowing what animals are in Ponyville and how many their are. In the episode Applebuck season, she and AJ had to count all the new born bouncing baby bunnies. So that could be her job.

 

Twilight- Even tow she lives and runs the library I don't think she makes money from that. Most likely she is paid by the Princess for info on friendship.

 

Pinkie Pie- As for Pinkie, she works for Mr. and Mrs. Cake at Sugarcube Corner. She helps with baking and planing parties. Also she helps baby-sit Pound Cake and Pumpkin Cake. Pinkie may also do a lot of other odd jobs.

And the pegasi probably get paid to clear the skies, so that covers Dash.
