I'm Worried

I had a scary thought that didn't allowed me to sleep yesterday. You know, there are lots of animated shows that once were good but now suck,to name a few:

1.SpongeBob Squarepants

2.The Powerpuff Girls

3.Dexter's Lab

4.The Simpsons

The point is,what if MLP suffers the same descent???I don't want it to have such an horrible fate like those shows.Somehow we gotta bring Lauren Faust back to MLP

You brought up a good observation. I really hope this isn't the future for this show, but lets all face it. Eventually, the devs will run out of ideas. I hope it's not any time soon, but if I had to make a prediction i'd say about 5 or 6 seasons.

I've thought of this, too. For Powerpuff Girls and Dexter's Lab, they were just cancelled early. I don't think they just started to suck and then got cancelled. I agree with Spongebob and Simpsons. Hopefully, MLP will stay as a good show for a while.

It seems shows that have a theatrical movie release are just plain ruined after the movie was released (ex, Spongebob), that is why I'm against the idea of a FiM movie in theaters. But so far, not a bad episode of FiM has been released (yet), Faust will eventually hop back on the bandwagon.

The thing with shows are that they are backed by a board of directors. Those directors work for stock holders. Stock holders want returns on their investments. They will run a show till its popularity drops off. If good authors won't do it then they will find someone who will. Creativity isn't something with infinite supply. Good authors need breaks and will inevitably run out or lose interest as Faust has. She has her own series she wants to make a success so it's no surprise she left the team.

It's just life.

This happens in games as well and is very common in anime.

If MLP declines in quality, I doubt it will have much to do with whether or not Lauren Faust returns to direct involvement with the show. It would be nice to see her working closely on MLP, but the second season progressed relatively well without her. The only major complaints I have seen revolve around Rarity and how her character shifted about unnaturally during the second season (e.g., she was more willing to be manipulative). Otherwise one could argue that some of the best writing came out of season two. There were relatively few hiccups.

And that's what it comes down to: the writers. If the quality dips, then I bet you 20 bits that it had to do with the writers being jettisoned in favor of a new crew. Typically that occurs when producers are attempting to cut back on costs or there are significant creative differences. I would be far more worried if DHX Media replaced the core writers; alarm bells would instantly go off in my mind.

MLP has one difference. Those things you named STARTED good. MLP went through 26 years of 100% absolute suck. The show had not one, not two, but THREE reboots before it got to where it was now. MLP was NEVER good before. It took FOUR reboots to finally get someone with a brain to make it good.

MLP is the reverse of everything you named. Instead of starting good and going bad, it took over a quarter of a century for it to become palatable by anyone. Even preschoolers reviled the G3-G3.5 cartoons, because they sucked beyond the pale. I've seen Powerpoint with better animation.

Yeah I agree with Thereisnospoon, if they somehow changed all the writers then the show's quality would probably change completely, for better or worse (more likely worse), so there's really nothing to worry about. Well that, and as long as Daniel Ingram keeps writing the show's excellent music, then it should stay good. ;)

Spongebob's actually getting better now. They brought back Bubble Buddy in an episode.

Powerpuff Girls and Dexter's Lab ended a LOOONNNGG time ago, and The Simpsons was just stupid to begin with. A BETTER example of something that started out good and ended bad is Disney Channel.

I do not think MLP:FiM will have a low point ever. It's got so many skilled producers and a fanbase huge enough that they would not give up on making good stuff.

It's ironic how I fall just to get back up again...

Looking at it right now, by the time it gets bad, our children have already died so no problem.

I have to agree with letterZOID and Ouker. The fanbase will keep it going strong and by the time it does (VERY small possibly) get bad our children and maybe even our childrens children will already be dead.

Sorry but i must disagree with you. The reboots don't really matter, what causes a show to go down the drain is corporate greed. All a reboot is is starting a series with a new light on it, now if in one reboot it went from bad to good then i would find your argument agreeable, however your talking about what is essentially the restart function for a computer.

don't lose hope here, it depends on how. I complete drop off and shift will ruin it, but if they add a writer and let him soak in the atmosphere for a few months before a writer leaves it can keep it going strong.

Remember, corporate greed was what made every single one of the past generations suck. It shamelessly advertised a toy line. Their main income was not the show, it was the toys. They had G1, G2, G3, G3.5, and even a movie, and every single one failed because they were BASED on corporate greed. They had a clean slate each time, with no connection in continuity, for several generations and a movie. In each and every one they MISERABLY failed because of corporate greed.

Reboots are NOT starting in a fresh light. Reboots are remaking shows ENTIRELY from scratch, chucking all previous canon out the window and establishing an entire new world and plot that has NOTHING to do with the previous generation. Despite the chance for complete redemption, they failed four times and even made a movie that opened in less than 500 venues and garnered less than $6 million.

After a quarter of a century of miserable corporate failure, they got it right. G4's popularity as a show drew interest into merchandise. Hasbro now knows that the one thing raking in an enormous cash flow is the show. If they mess up the show, they'll lose an immense profit margin. Even in corporate greed, Nash's principle of economics holds true: "In order to succeed, one must do what is best for the individual and the group.". Keeping the show good does just that.
