gaming What brings you nostalgia in gaming?

Games. Systems. Music. Accessories. Commercials. Memories.

What things in gaming bring you nostalgia, take you back to your childhood when it comes to playing video games? What were your first games? Is there certain music or perhaps the little sound effects, that remind you of certain memories, you did you like just hearing it over and over again? Was there something iconic and reminder of the controllers or other peripherals? Was there something about a games’ advertisement line that made it unique? Or do you just have any special memory of a game important to you that you'd like to share?

Share any of the above things in this thread, and let's learn about our powerful childhoods!

Chocolate.

EDIT: Guess maybe I should read the OP...uhm, I usually get nostalgia with a game over screen...because, you know, that's when I would actually not die on purpose. And it didn't hold my hand. That and chocolate.

Dark Age of Camelot, whenever I play a MMO I always remember the fun I had in the PvP that game provided. Always want to go back, but never want to pay for a game I'll only play a few weeks of.

Yeah, cause I usually pass out, and have some weird visions.

Let's not get into my childhood...

To answer the question, I didn't game much, so no nostalgia really.

Remixes of old music in new games. When it's really subtle is the best. (examples: Forest Haven and Outset Island in LoZ: Wind Waker).

Also playing old games with my friends. I played Diddy Kong Racing at my friend's house a while back, and it felt good.

I miss those old game commercial. Nowadays all of them are really generic in trying to convince you on how badass they are with those reviewer quotes.

That's b/c they use well-known reviewers' quotes. They do they same thing trying to sell movies. It's a proven business strategy.

Yeah, I know that but it's as if though they are really trying to make them look generic most of the time.

It tough, but generic sells.

VG music and the good ol' kidney bean controller which I still have along with the Genesis. Really though, I still play the games I played when I was a kid so I guess the games themselves more than anything.

Anyone else still a bit cross over EA buying Westwood and destroying C&C in the process?

I can neither confirm nor deny myself being the cause of electrical related malfunctions. Anyways, you wouldn't happen to have a jar of replacement magic smoke would you?

I'm a die-hard Sonic fan, and I've noticed that the cash registers in a lot of gas stations in my state now seem to have the little chime noise for when Sonic collects rings in the old genesis games, for when the person does an action on the computer. Lots of nostalgia.

The music, the atmosphere in the game, what I did in it in the past, it just brings back fond memories from my past.~

I mostly have nostalgia from the N64 days with Super Mario 64, Mario Kart, Mario Party 2, Paper Mario and even some SNES games like Super Mario World and Donkey Kong Country, also have nostalgia from Pokemon Crystal (my first Pokemon game).

What brings me nostalgia in gaming?

I could write a wall of text based on this, I'll try to refrain.

Mostly anything to do with the Nintendo 64, and also Game Boy.

Ocarina of Time, Jet Force Gemini and the first two generations of Pokemon are the first things that come to mind when I think of nostalgic games.

Music from those games often makes me feel nostalgic, or remixes, these two in particular:

I'd like to thank the MLP Vector Club for the images used in my avatar.

Known as "Princess Mi Amore Cadenza", "Trixie the Great", "Tom" and "Tomzoid the EggDroid".
