Nah

Should we start a membership awards program?

Conclusion: we got quite a hell of a weird community :/

Ha, that made me laugh more than it should have.

It's the internet. Normalcy and societal protocol gets thrown out the window.

Alienation of certain users who tend to act in extreme cases would most definitely ensue. Having awards sounds like a plausible and enjoyable idea; however, we all know it would not end well. I think it best we stick with community-involved projects -- like the pony pile or the art exchange. Those are all in good fun and they include everyone. A simple "Paticipant" ribbon does indeed pale in comparison to "Most Favored User".

It's a "no" from me.

This is why we can't have nice things! Lollers!

I was actually thinking about member awards not long ago but after a decent about of thinking time it would be a bad idea to start this in the first place.

Wow... I didn't know you posted in here.

I was just about to say we may have mature users, but we shouldn't really have this awards thing. Like what Cloud here said.

I have to go against this, for the reasons other people have stated.

If we let members vote on how gets what badge it would become a simple popularity contest. Resulting in drama.

And if mods decide then they will be accused of favouritism.

I'd like to thank the MLP Vector Club for the images used in my avatar.

Maybe we should set up a "The Most Popular Member" contest then?

Feel free, there just won't be any 'official' involvement ;)

No need. We all know who would win. Our esteemed alicorn overlord

-All contests, comparisons or other involvements of comparison between epicness, helpfulness, intelligence or any other plausible trait that involve Fled0, will always end in 'Feld0 is best pony/staff/ruler/tyrant/god/artificial intelligence/butterfly/thing.' No exceptions.

I personally think Member awards would be quite fun. But yes, there is still the worry that members will become crazy over it.

Yeah, maybe it might cause arguments. But what I think is that we give it a try. Who knows, maybe it'll turn out good. If it doesn't, then lesson learned.

I haven't on this forum for long, but I know the members on here long enough to know that they'd never be greedy about this. Everypony here is very polite and nice, and the start of a flamewar is highly unlikely in my opinion. However, I understand where you guys are getting.

Something like this is just bound to cause drama and hurt feelings. Especially in a forum about love and friendship, that's one thing we really don't need. There are enough contenders for most of these suggested awards that I'm sure at least one of the members who doesn't get the prize will walk away with hurt feelings, even if they don't show it. And that's not even considering the members who don't get considered for the prize at all, who thought that they should.

No matter how mature the community is, something like this is bound to cause more harm than good, because, really, what's the point of a shiny award in your profile other than to say "I have something that you don't?"

I like this idea, it would get a lot of members both old and new to try and delve into the site, interacting and talking with everyone here. I whole heartily approve this idea.

On side topic, why isn't there simple little contests posted for things such as art? I mean, the contests could be held here to hold the exclusivity of the contest and material delivered to the Deviant Art page for collection process. We could have the community here judge best works and use the moderators here to decide on the best of what was left from the communities choices.

I dunno, just a simple idea here.

To say "I have something that.....oh right.

It can deal damage both ways

- users feeling angry/depressed they were left out and/or didn't win

- users getting super ego inflation and strutting around showing off their prize and annoying others

While it could be fun, it's nowhere near necessary for the site. It won't enhance the forums and it could certainly hurt it.

Why is this thread still alive? I figured so many people said no it just died by now </3 Surprisingly the poll isn't that far off from being leveled.

lol you've been around long enough to know feedback threads never die unless they are locked. It usually gets bumped by a newer member then everyone who previously posted comes back to reiterate their points or contest what the new person said.

Ergo why I was being rhetorical more than serious with my question ;)
