I can definetly understand why someone might not like the show.

You know were all different there's nothing in the world that everyone likes.

However I know for myself, I much prefer to say I dislike something only after I have given it a fair chance.

Most people who don't even want to bother watching one episode are just in that mind frame where, it's a girls show so automatically means I wont like it. Which can be partly blamed on how our culture handles male and female identifying at early ages.

Most of the time, people hate the show because they hate the fans, or in this case, bronies. Which is a valid reason when all they see while surfing the internet is ponies everywhere and then having bronies jump on their backs relentlessly trying to get them to watch the show. However, if someone isn't hassled by bronies and just hates the show because of what they see and because others near them are hating it, then that's dumb.

 

Other times, people hate the show because they feel the show is overrated and not deserving of the hype and praise it gets. Which is like their opinion man. No need to convert them or sway their opinion. In fact, I respect people more who just don't think the show is up to their liking than those who hate on it just because of bronies. That's a stupid way to base your opinions on something, how the fans act.

 

Just let them do their thing over there while we're over here having fun doing what we like.

 

You should explain that Sonic is a bland Gary Stu with no flaws what so ever, while Dashie's ego makes her more fleshed out.

I think the reason people hate bronies so much, is because many bronies judge people too quickly.

As a Sonic fan myself...

 

 

That was actually one of my biggest complaints about the show - the lack of a good villain. Nightmare Moon and her plan were seriously underdeveloped. Discord just foolishly stood there and literally watched the Mane Six shoop-da-whooping him. Chrysalis was incredible (come on, it is Kerrigan, one of the greatest villains out there), but her defeat was, truly, "stupid".

I think he wants this show to have a villain like Mephiles. What he needs to understand is, even with those epic two-parters, MLP pretty much is a domestic show. It just does not need a villain.

 

 

That's because they don't evolve. Their personalities are developed greatly, but none of the Mane Six actually evolved during the show. But, neither did any Sonic character, actually. Except for Tails in Sonic Adventure.

 

 

Maybe because Sonic does what he wants and has no "join the Wonderbolts" dream. Apart from that, IMHO, they're equally awesome. Maybe he doesn't like leading characters being female.

Even with all of MLP's revolutionary ideas and great stories, it still has the idea of "We need to teach young kids things". Sonic does not have that. If his games can come up with any crazy plot with little to no morale, MLP has to simplify its plot and fit a morale in ~20 minutes episodes, for kids. If you want a truly great saga, don't search for it in MLP.

If the gameplay is not the issue, I don't know what is. Maybe the setting. But Kirby isn't all that different from MLP, if talking about the setting.

 

Overall, I say tolerate it. No need to force him to love it.

 

Stop persuading someone when they've seen the show for themselves and have the knowledge to form their opinion. They are informed and not ignorant on the subject, so accept their opinion that they just don't like MLP. The world's not going to end because they aren't going to be a pony fan.

Look, I can get that he doesn't like the show, but seriously? Is he comparing it to Sonic?. I mean does sonic even have a plot? I thought sonic's story line was "go right". Dr. Eggman is about as bad a villain as team rocket. If asked today, I could not tell you what kind of personality Sonic has. Talk about bland lol.

 

It's cool that he doesn't like it, but it's very annoying when the "reasons" are faults that are shared with other things he likes.

It's because you feel compelled to stand up for your beliefs, which you think is contrary to any "hater's" belief. Of course, there's very little, if nothing, to go about by arguing over your likes and dislikes as it will only cause bigger problems for you and other people involved.

 

"Love and tolerance" is really an overrated and an untrue mantra of ours, but tolerating other people and their beliefs is a great skill to build up. You don't have to like them, but no need to blow your top off at the slightest hateful remark about ponies.

ah sonic, the game of my childhood...back then it had no plot and it sort of suited it...get chaos emeralds, turn super saiyan (which was awesome too, Rainbow Dash should turn super saiyan)

like anything I collect/like, I have met good and bad people within its fanbase, be it warhammer, BJD's, MLP, and people who don't like them. sometimes people seem oblivious there is anything bad or flawed about their likes and try to shove it down everyone's throat that this thing is awesome and you need to like it.

I like MLP because ponies are cute, I get to have things to display and brush, the show is funny and has some fun songs. I refuse to try and convert anyone, someone wants to watch it, well they know what youtube is.

I avoided the show for so long because people pushed me, and it was only after they finally started to leave me alone and I judged it for myself (rather then listening to a bunch of crap people I didn't like were telling me) I grew to enjoy it in my own way.

Everybody, or everypony, is different, and might like something for very different reasons then the person next to them.

The only reason people dislike MLP is because it's "girly", that was established a long time ago. Let them hate if they want, but don't hate the haters, you aren't much better than they are in that case.

Like almost everyone else here has said, this is all opinionated. Not everything is for everybody. The only time you should ever actually "discuss" with him is when he uses his opinions as facts. I have plenty of friends who do this, and it was not fun for them when I typed out an essay with actual facts proving everything they said wrong. It made me happy, though.

 

And I don't see why he would compare My Little Pony with Sonic. They are nothing alike. Two completely different things. It's like comparing the taste of corn and paint. It just won't work.

Hoshi no Kaabii is totally my favorite anime. I stopped at around episode 70-ish because at that point the subs stopped. The subbing is probably done now I really need to continue watching. -.-

 

As for Sonic, that had over 4 shows. O_o' Though, there was one point in the Japanese Sonic X that made me lol. Go to 16:25-ish.

Secondly, I actually have to agree with your friend somewhat on SOME of the plots and story lines being sub par, especially regarding the beginning of S1. There are, however, many creative story writers working to make the show as good as possible. Your friend should really take into consideration other aspects that make the show good, such as the excellent animation and voice acting.

It could be that they were raised up to believe that such things are not proper in their lifestyle, that other peoples opinions gave them a pre judgemental view of the show, that they are to ignorant to give the show a try, that they cant get around the fact that My Little Pony seems like a 5 year old girls show, or that they have given the show some thought actually watched it but just cant connect with the story or its characters (some of my best friends are in this category and they respect me and accept that i like mlp) Its different for every person out there.. but keep in mind that its not always their fault because like i said they could have been raised up that way.

I disliked MLP before I became a fan because I thought it was a cheap and shrill brand that patronised girls. I was intrigued when I saw the internet spamming stuff about MLP in 2012 - when I finally caved and saw A Friend in Deed I initially thought "This is exactly the kind of saccharine pink crap I associate MLP with." Now... well just look at my sig

Well maybe they never spend a single minute to watch the show or read about the show and just started hating thing which breaks gender stereotypes and make their worldview a bit more unstable. Maybe some people do not like sweet, adorable and cute things? Or maybe they have so little imagination that watching a show about a fictional world is already too much for them? There could be some explanations. 

Not everything is for everyone. It's only bitter if someone is not even trying and just hating for no good reason.

On a side note: I never hated MLP:FiM just never came to watch the show before some circumstances came together and I was caught in this beautiful world.
