Is that so?

I'm just being tongue-in-cheek. Your screen name and comment go well together in this context.

Like I've said a thousand times, she really is the representation of mah dream girl, hence why I like her so

I got a reason close to that. Applejack reminds me of this girl that ive had a crush on since middle school. That and her accent is straight sexy

OT:For some reason, the way that I visualize Derpy, would also be an amazing women to be with. An awesome, Happy-go-lucky pony with no care in the world who just happens to be really accident prone. Shes my little muffin!

I feel like Vinyl Scratch would be an awesome friend to have. I dont think there would ever be a boring moment.

Twilight would be really good to talk to in some occasions

Just because Fluttershy doesn't like debate means you mirror?

The other way around. I like Fluttershy because she doesn't like confrontation of any kind. (Among dozens of other reasons.) I believe what I believe and I don't want to muddle my pony time with being reminded of the environment I've been forced to occupy for most of my adult life.

Very sensible to be frank.

Randomly off topic, but I lurked here some time ago and a few of your posts that you made were.....just pure genius. Please write books of some sort.

On topic:

adorable, and if i was a stallion, then yes i'd most likely be stalking rarity daily, but since im human, screw beastiality

Yea, why Rarity? I honestly think I would go insane being near her for too long.

First point: Why thank you. :) That means a lot to somepony who's developing an interest in being a writer. I've actually started writing my first ever fanfiction. (What else but ponies would finally get me to do it, right?) May I ask what post you are reffering to?

Second point: I think Dash is cool, but honestly, she would probably hate my guts and while the other members of the Mane Six have danced up and down the scale of romantic attraction, Rainbow's never really gone anywhere past "she can clean up nicely."

(Admittedly she REALLY CAN!) While Rarity, as I've said before, takes such pride in her femininity she refines it into an art form. I myself try to be a gentleman with the ladies I court. It landed me my first girlfriend and those were the best two years of my life thus far. Rarity wants to be swept off her hooves and I'm a pegasus that wouldn't mind doing just that. I could go into more detail, but my point is different strokes for different folks. The characters are very different from each other as are all of us looking at them, with our own views and perceptions as well. To some, Applejack looks like this:

[[Censored due to pony defamation.]]

To others she looks like this:

I'm of the ladder. What can I say? I may have an idea of what I want in a woman but that doesn't mean I'm not flexible.

Just a few.......

That makes perfect sense. I've said before in this very thread that it's not the ponies themselves that one is truly attracted to. They are templates for adult female behavioral patterns. When somepony "likes" Pinkie Pie, they are no doubt attracted to girls who are optimistic, love to laugh, and face every challenge in life with a song in her heart. For just one example.

Nor am I, and I'm assuming most here aren't. Frankly though, I don't think one could call these ponies horses anymore than one could call us monkeys. There are similarities, but they are still pretty divorced from non-sapient equines. Take the mice Twilight turned into horses in "Best Night Ever" they didn't look anything like them and were clearly not "thinking" animals like us.

Fans say aliens in other media are attractive but no one objects because they look human enough to apparently reach some bar "anthro-appropriateness" (like the Asari). I submit that the ponies also reach that level if you look at it the right way. Let's take a look at Twilight shall we?

Cute as button no doubt, but why and in what ways? Well, for one, her eyes. The eyes are often considered an attractive attribute, particularly if there is something striking about them. Twilight has big, pretty, purple eyes that match her motif. In addition to the eyelashes. They are not as prominent as Rarity's, but they are appropriately endearing. Then there's her mane, it's long, straight, and with tinted highlights. For those who fine long, straight hair attractive, Twilight's the best example of the six. Then there's her voice, so full of spirited curiosity. All this, because those are identifiable as feminine. When one looks at the concept of the "Uncanny Valley", that the more human something tries to be, the more it's in-humanity stands out, one finds the opposite to hold true as well. The ponies are clearly NOT human, so the human qualities they do have are amplified. So yes, Twilight is very beautiful . . . especially when she cleans herself up a bit!

Like I've said on multiple occasions, Lauren Faust created the characters to be role models for the younger audience. Meaning they are adult, if not always mature, women. We, or at least some of us, look past the cartoon ponies they appear as for the people they represent. They are all examples of "types" of women. Twilight is academic and authoritative. Applejack is practical and responsible. Pinkie is spirited and deceptively insightful. Etcetera etcetera.

Fluttershy is appealing to me because of her demure nature. She's pure and unfettered by worldly concerns, drawing joy from caring and giving life. I may not be Rambo, but I'm a soldier and if you look closely my cutie-mark sums up the two things I'm good at. Writing and protection. As much as it may seem demeaning, I have this want, this NEED to protect and care for somebody like her. To be her rock and her shield. I know she can handle herself, but the feeling is there and I've stopped trying to fight it.

That's quite a combination! The reason you compare yourself and her to the ponies is because those are the "self" and she the "anima." To use Jungian terms. Your own ponysona is your "self," the way you view yourself in your head! Strong, capable, regal, worthy! The "anima" is the idealization of your feminine desires. Your anima is being conveyed through that (very bizarre) combination of ponies because those particular ones are part of your idealization of the woman you love.

It's the same for me. My former girlfriend (now best friend) pretty much summed it up that Fluttershy is primarily my "crush pony" because she embodies everything vulnerable and pure in the feminine. My anima screams for her to be treasured, cared for, and protected with half the love she gives to others.

Rarity similarly. She actually wares her womanhood on her sock. She's actually TRYING to be the idealized feminine. While still being a capable hero and not afraid of some "courtly flirting" as much of an oxymoron that sounds like.

I'm not a psychologist myself (I just read too much and said friend IS one.) So don't take this as gospel, but it just could be some overlap between your Anima and you Self. Think about it, we're already guys who watch My Little Pony so jumping the fence on considering yourself at least a little "feminine" is kind of a moot point, some would say. ^_^ Besides, feminine doesn't strictly mean womanhood. You need both to be a balanced individual. A man with too much feminine is well . . .

Perhaps how you see yourself is reflected in your idea of love. This makes quite a bit of sense because of the factors of true love. (As can be best defined by lasting relationships.) Intimacy, Commitment, and Passion. Around the one's our heart truly desires, we are more our true selves than anywhere else. Your "persona" the face you put on for most, melts away so your beloved can see who you really are.

So your ponysona could simply be both what you desire in your would be romantic partner AND what you want her to see in you.

Well thank you! It's nice to know I've made a friend. (If you can reasonably call us that.) I appreciate the sentiment, but I'm more into History and Literature. However, both schools lend themselves well to psychological thought. Well I think it all but verifies it. (Take this with a bit of salt mind you.) You disliked Trixie before for the same reason many do on crushes. They hold you captive with their whiles and you can't stand it, but you can't turn away. You care. You can't shut them out like a non-entity because you admire something about them. It's just hidden under faults you can't stand. Get over them, blah blah blah. NOW! You've grown as a person and now you see Trixie never was the mare you thought she was. Romantic affection can't exist without s small bit of self-delusion. We put people on pedestals all the time and make them personifications of virtues we love. This attraction can become a healthy relationship so long as one acknowledges that their partner may not always be perfect, but that doesn't make them any less special. With Trixie, you kind of got the short end of the stick. While the other characters have grown and matured over the series through character development, Trixie never got past being the lying braggart she is. Behind all the smoke and mirrors, she was just a pathetic showmare who thought she was Luna's gift to Equestria and that her talents gave her the right to everypony's adoration. Hence, "The Great and Powerful Trixie!" It's not just a stage name, that's actually how she saw herself.

Light RP time! *watching from a cloud*

*she opens her eyes*

FS: Oh Steel! I . . . um . . . didn't see you there.

Me: You looked so content. I thought it rude to disturb you.

FS: Thank you.

*longing gazes*

Me: Have I told you lately that I love you?

FS: hehehe Only an hour ago.

Me: Really? Time sure flies and so do I! GERONIMO!

*splash*

*Proceed to child-like splashing scene*

Ac

cording

to Professor Masahiro Mori's "Uncanny Valley" when something is meant to look human but isn't, our brains automatically notice the things that aren't human. The same can be said of the opposite. C-3PO is funny because he is, in some ways, the most identifiable and human character even though he's visibly made of metal and circuitry. When something's clearly not human, it's human qualities stand

out.

The ponie's human features, hair, eyes, smile, body language etc. are clearly apparent in contrast with their cartoon animal appearance.

When watching Mandopny's song Somepony's Waiting, the lyrics described them so well and evoked the feelings again, but this time without the trepidation. It clicked! It wasn't attraction to the ponies themselves, but what they meant in my head and heart. (Grab your INCEPTIONs it's about to Jungian up in this joint!) You see, according to Carl Jung, humans are hardwired to recognize certain things at a base level and are individual brains interpret them in different ways. (Dragons being common across mythology for instance.) The Mane 6 fit into ideal feminine archetypes. The little ones get their role models but our developed brains see past the cartoon and recognize the kind of people they represent.

Thus any "sexual attraction" boasted on the internet, I humbly submit, is typical bravado covering up a deep seated emotional stimulus. Your brain recognizing the things you REALLY want in a relationship.

Well to put it as most have on this thread, including myself, it IS personality. Romance involves a heavy amount of idealization on the admired person, while being tempered with the rationality that they aren't completely perfect. The Mane Six (and thanks to good voice acting and extensive fan content, background ponies) are indeed ideal archetypes but with enough flaws to make them very believable. Many have posted here and similar threads how much they "identify with X pony" rather than . . . well I'd rather not post an example. When it DOES come to physical characteristics, many bronies (at least here) seem less interested in the plot than the preface. (Face - c what I did thar? ^_^ ) The faces are very human, just like their personalities. Ultimately, the reason for the attraction is the same for most interest in likable fictional characters, the audience can connect with them on an emotional level. The creators have just done their jobs VERY well and made the ponies "human." Not in the "anthropomorphically built" part (which Lauren was against) but in being believable as people. Most "dat flank" comments, I submit, is just typical guy bravado for a deep seated emotional longing. To sum up. The EXTREMELY talented and awesome artist d.notive, who made this . . .

Most of us are fully aware of how ridiculous this sounds and are capable of laughing at ourselves a bit. (Like most bronies.) All that's just my two bits though.

Basically all of your post explaining the reason behind liking any of the ponies is so nicely well thought out, extremely clear, and with sources. I was not confused often while reading them, and the few times I was all I did was re-read them once more and it then I would pick up on it. I would have never put the fact of their personalities combined with other human traits to cause one to "fall" for them. That may also be due to the fact that I have never actually cared for a character as deeply until now.

Also, the light RP you did was actually well done for such a small amount done. If you did a full one, I would go ahead and say that it would be pretty darn good just based off of that. That and I believe that if you wrote fanfics as well as you can explain stuff (clearly, well organized, and thoroughly), they would as well be pretty damn good.

All in all, you alone completely explained and cleared up everything in my head about this exact topic. And for that I thank you!

As TagTeamCast would put it: You deserve a PHD

Also, That last picture of Applejack is just adorable!
