As many of us know, a lot of us are 90's kids.

We grew up playing video games, or watching whatever was on Tv.

One of the most popular shows as I can see was Pokemon.

I grew up playing and watching the series, and I absolutely loved it.

And as I can see, Pikachu has become a landmark character from the show, getting many spin offs, including the Super Smash Bros. games.

But what if in the original anime and game, Pikachu never existed?

Would the show still receive the same massive following it does now, or would it still hold up?

And in the anime, if Pikachu was replaced, who do you think the new companion would be for Ash, and would the show be the same?

It would be a completely different show and probably not half of what it would have been.

Without Pikachu Ash would probably turn to Charmander and he didn't even like ash for half the series.Replacing Pikachu is an impossible task.

The compainion would obviously be charmander, cos charizard that's why. Or ash would have got the eevee instead of gary.

I would be one hella happy boy. If his replacement was better in both the show and game, that is. The game would probably still be a whole lot better with that worthless rat out of the picture.

 

Also, I think the show would still be the same. Pikachu doesn't make the show, so if he wasn't created back then and something else took his place, as long as it acted the same and they kept the same idea then I think it would still be as big as it is now.

Pikachu actually was kind of important for the anime/manga. In the manga, Red (I think that was the Protagonist) had gotten Pikachu after there was a wanted Pikachu loose in some town. It was kind of a defining moment where he used Pikachu to defeat the Stone Gym and beat Team Rocket for the Moonstone, among other things.

And in the show, Pikachu was Ash's first Pokemon. Through out the show, Ash was spending his time building a relationship with this Pokemon that supposedly "couldn't be tamed". Pikachu provided comedic relief in some points, and even helped built a pretty good story. And we all remember the crying scene from the Mew Two movie. That was pretty sad.

So I don't think it would have worked without a character like Pikachu, or Pikachu itself. The show/manga would just be lacking an important part of what made it so good.

But if there's no Pikachu, of course there would be another mascot. It might be Eevee as Lostwanderer said or simply anything that's cuddly and furry.

Heck, I never played any Legend of Zelda, but I know what OoT stands for and that Zelda is the girl one. A massive fandom is the best form of advertisement

Pikachu is eh. I got into the games pre-Pikachu-being-omnipresent and have never let go. I'd be different, but not dead.

Well, actually, Nintendo was deciding to make Clefairy (yes, THAT Clefairy) the main Pokemon in the anime. However, they later changed their mind and used Pikachu instead.

 

If Pikachu didn't exist, then I believe less fans would be into the show. Mainly because Pikachu's cuteness would not attract as much fans. I honestly became interested in Pokemon because i thought Pikachu was sooooo cute!

 

And I'm glad that Pikachu exists. Pokemon, along with MLP, are two great shows. It wouldn't be the same without hearing that special 'Pika! Pika!'.
